I think so, I haven't been there in years, certainly not since we've owned any subies, but the owners know every car out there, and what's left on it, and we got a FWD 3AT for our loyale from up there, and I think there's another one there too, I'd have to check the phone book for more info at all....

DOH! sorry man....well, this car also needs to get me back and forth to Duluth (3 hour drive from here at my parents house in the Twin Cities), a few times this summer, not to mention the only state-funded (or something....public) ORV park in MN is about an hour north of Duluth! so it needs to be a comfortable road car aswell, maybe no swampers yet, until I have an XT6 or something for a daily driver WOA!!! design flaw?!?! who said anything about a flaw, it was intentional, he messed with the geometry of the car to get INSANE ground clearance! if you want to maintain your geometry and keep you fenders intact, go get a BYB lift....not to badmouth them, but it's another option, that has it's own pros and cons, personally, the AA lift is exactly what I was looking for!!!
  3. well, unfortunately, most of these friends are useless morons when it comes to cars....BUT.....there's a good yard in alexandria minnesota that would probably have the tranny (that's where we got the tranny for my loyale when it needed it), and the tranny swap is a pretty straightforward job, if you have tools and a garage, making it virtually impossible for a college student, but easy/relatively cheap for a garage, have him call around the area and ask how much to replace a tranny with one you already have. unfortunately all my friends are down here in the twin cities for summer break, so that probably won't help.
  4. yea, I suspected there aren't, any word on that XT6 at upull? otherwise I may call "subaru heaven" and see what I can dig up. as for what I have.....lots of ea82 wagon stuff....I have 3 now, and will be parting out one into the other ('85 D/R under '92 3AT FWD) so all extra parts from that will be available, 2 sets of fugly 13" steelies with assorted tires on them....name your part, I'll check the inventory
  5. and having looked at my own wagon vs. those pics, I think he could cut off quite a bit still, and I'll back him up on the travel thing, that spot were the tire is closest is also where the control arm attaches to the unibody, it CAN'T get any closer there, that's why the tire's brought forward with the lift, then it goes back with the suspension.... shardy....how much did those tires run you? how are they on road? I have a new source of cash and am thinking about getting some swampers, or saving up, and having that as my last mod....after all, I do need bumpers, somewhere to put my spare, 2 more bike attachments for the roof rack, tabs for roof lights, speakers, LSD, breathers............... he he, I see you're still running rear drums! Ha HA HA, I'm sooo sorry, yea, I swapped the rear discs over, along with the braided SS lines, today.....mmmmmmmmmm

  7. ok, I finished the motor work, got all the fluids in, and full etc. then I messed around with the linkage. There's an adjustment bolt on the bottom of the linkage, I loosened it, and let it slide to it's loosest position, and that helped alot. Then I straightened out the 4WD selecter lever, and took out ALL of the console in the middle (it's cool, I was going to convert to dual e-brake anyway) and got all of my gears back, threw on the pugs and parked it up on a stack of the tires it came on.....yay for you local guys: I'll be out at firestone on friday night.....if anyone would like to see it! oh yea, and check out my cool 4WD decal on my fairing!
  8. OK, tomorrow morning, I will! got it running....no coolant, so I can't run it long (need a rad hose first), but I put it in neutral and let out the clutch to spin the tranny, and it still won't go in gear! I've got another idea to try in the morning, and then.....well, I don't know

  11. I know man...neither can I, picked up all the parts today, put in the oil pump (with it's new gaskets) today, and hopefully can do the rest tomorrow, or into sunday morning.....then I can test it out next week!

  13. The gaurd is lowered (with the 3" spacers you sent me...) and NOT bent, it was owned by a girl, but the other way, it was very well taken care of. There is zero slop in the linkage, I was amazed when I drove it (while it worked anyway), the shifter is solid, didn't come even close to the console (I had to dremel out my console it was so sloppy on my '85). I've removed the console on this one, and the problem is deeper than that, though I haven't crawled back under there since I put the blocks in, and it still needs front seal on the oil pump, new water pump, and at least one timing belt (though I'll do both while I'm in there) before it'll be leaving the garage, at which point it'll get the upgraded parts that are now on the '85. But like I said, console (whole plastic piece around both shift levers) and shift boot are removed, and it still won't go in gear. it might just be because the motor isn't running, no panic yet, once I get it running I'll try a few things before I go bending stuff, but I was just brainstorming, as I think some of the BYB lifted guys had to modify their linkage too

Well, the ragtop design that singletrack has uses a frame that could easily be modified to bolt something in there more substantial.....i.e. plexiglass! as for wheels/tires, I've got a set of 5 15" pug alloys, and will be putting on some liberator a/t's in a couple weeks...yea cheap wal-mart tires!!!! Any ideas for the shift linkage?

Well, I just bought another GL wagon....but it broke the driver side timing belt on the way home ( http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36824 ), here's the question, my passenger side belt is clean and dry: but the driver side is covered with oil and coolant.... What now??? so obviously I need to replace the one belt, and since I have it off, I might as well replace the other, but should I replace my water pump? just seals? oil pump? just seals? there isn't a whole lot of oil on the outside of the motor (some, but not too much), and ZERO coolant, but it's all over the place inside the T-belt cover, so my pumps must be leaking.

OK, as many of you may remember, I was the first to purchase an AA lift with the intention of installing it myself (though they have installed it on a few cars themselves). and ever since last summer the plan was to take the 5-speed D/R drivetrain out from my rust-bucket '85, and put it under my '92 florida car, remedying (is that a word) it's 2 faults, 3AT and FWD, AND lift it in the process.....well...... about 2 weeks ago, my dad's boss informed him that her daughter would be selling her "old subaru." My dad quickly inquired for more information, finding out it was a 5-speed, D/R, '88 GL Wagon, 220k mile, worn out shocks, bad brakes, PNW "rusted out pile," but only $150. My dad wrote her a check, without ever seeing it....GOOD MAN!!!! so last week his boss and her daughter dropped the car off at a park-and-ride about midway between our houses, and the next morning my mom dropped me off there to pick it up and bring it home. Got in it, started it right up, drove for a few miles, almost to the freeway enterence ramp, when it died.....nothing, coasting along, all of a sudden no power, pushed in the clutch and the tach slammed to 0 (but more on that in it's own thread). got AAA to tow it home (on a flatbed no less!) got it in the garage, and found it to be, BY FAR, the best condition suby we now own! and started lifting it immediately. Pic of the kit, with only one front strut block, and both (old and new) steering shafts got the front going, found that, although the AA lift is designed to use the stock skidplate, it does help to unbolt the bottom of it, to allow for more movement while installing (although I experienced a bit too much), and the stock scissors jack came in very handy in getting the crossmembers lined up. had some trouble getting the old bolts for the engine cradle out....but that's what they make the cutting wheel for those dememls for anyway right??? but finally got the front done (ended up using some ratcheting tie-downs to help pull things back in line..... then on to the back...had much less trouble here, though these are the stock, non-adjustables, which will be replaced with my adjustables off the '85 once this one's driveable, along with rear discs, lights, etc. check this clearance! on stock tires!!! mmm....all done! OK, questions.....shift linkage is messed up, though it sounds like they have some shorter blocks for the tranny crossmember that should fix that, I bet I'll have to bend things some. I've got the console out, and it won't go in 2, 4, R or FWD....if I bend the linkage up (^ instead of -) that should fix the angle....right? I've got some crazy camber stuff going on, this is normal right? Long story short...I love this lift, it looks GREAT, very solid, can't wait to get it out in the mud!
  18. so.....how would/did you go about mounting a second lever in an actual cockpit? custom console like the buggy? there have been a couple occasions where that would have been nice on my '85, but then again, it's not lifted, at all, so getting high-centered was easier than it will be on my '88. But I might do it anyway.

I was looking at that brat....but didn't get it....obviously, I go to college in Duluth @ UMD, and will be up there on and off over the summer (my girlfriend lives up there), but now I'm down at my parents place in the western suburbs of minneapolis...watch the offroad forum for what I'm up to, and I hope to see ya around!!!
  21. nope, part-time 4wd's (non-turbos...i beleive), were 3.9s, full-times (dual range or not) were 3.7.
