It was a great truck, but some of it's parts will live on in my new brat. While it looks pretty sound, underneath the frame rails, and all the major bolt on sections for susspension pieces were literally dust. I was lucky to get it home in one piece on it's last voyage. Excellent motor and tranny to live on in my other cars.

My 1985 Brat was in service for the last 2 years, but I had to chop it up this past spring. The rear end was completely rusted beyond repair. The whole rear assembly was 1 pot hole away from separating from the car.

Had some scrap diamond plate laying around, makes good rust repair. New England winters are not kind to metal.

My Winter beater 1993 Loyale 5speed 4WD. It's on it's second engine. The first motor blew up because I could't get off the highway quick enough after the water pump went.

Did you make the side decals? looks good. The gen 2 cars with single headlamps look better than the quad set-ups, in my opinion. Good score on the raised white letter 13 inch tires, hard to find these days.

Wow what a beauty. The rims don't look like factory rims, but they look cool. So this wagon has the single headlight set up, solid color seats and 2 spoke steering wheel. Some 79's have quad headlights, plaid cloth seat inserts, and 4 spoke steering wheels. So did the factory have different trim packages available as options or did they offer DL and GL models. Great find nice to see another one getting back on the road.

Well it looks like you have about $5 worth of washers holding down that grounding strap you could sell to make $ for more parts LOL. Looks great keep up the work. -
post some pics of your car. I'm sure if you do the subaru guru's on this web site could tell you exactly what year/model you have. I use rockhouseauto.com to get most parts I need, be careful using the local auto parts store they usually don't have the part you need or screw up and sell you the wrong part.

Those rims are jackmans for a EA71 era subaru's. The curved style may fit better on a EA82 car, you may have to do some tweaking to get them to work w/o rubbing. Nice car, looks sweet.

Nice car. Is that the original grill? Looks like later loyale. That color combo is awsome. The earlier EA82 trim/interior is so much better than the later EA82/loyale options. Very sano ride.

Needs an oscilating red led in the hood scoop. The Subaru Knight Rider! -
the original pedal attaches to the floor and has a rubber strap to hold it on the arm. The rubber strap is usually the first to go and the pedal will flop off the arm. I would just fab up a piece of wood w/ a hinge and attach it to the floor. If you do locate an original pedal chances are the rubber strap will be broken or missing anyways.

Heres a front shot of the frankenwagen. Custom cargo roof-basket courtesy of a junked old swing set and bedframe rails. added some 2x4's for hauling a canoe. Need to add some duct tape to save the last piece of door moulding left on rear door. The rest of the body moulding was lost in the wind. Hood and grill were taken out by Bambi's mom 2 yrs ago, added some front end protection for the next battle with wildlife wandering on the roads.

I own a few of them. Guess it makes sence to start this thread with my favorite daily beater. Its a true frankenwagen, loyale rear crossmeber (original one broke in 2) loyale dashboard (the old one melted due to an ashtray fire) Still has the original motor and trans. It started as a 1986 gl fwd 3speed auto. It leaves oil spots and piles of rust whever it goes, but its still chugging along. Recently added a trailer hitch for hauling even more crap in it on junk hunting adventures. This car is a roach that won't die, indestructable.

Using ATF, seafoam, Gunk engine cleaner...ect works for me. I would not recommend using any of these products as an additive for daily driving. They are cleaning agents and should be drained out after briefly running in the engine to flush out sludge. If you want an additive to run on a regular basis try Risoline.

Tick of death and Air bubbles in the oil

I have 3 ea82 subarus that get used/abused on a regular basis. All of them have had the tick of death at one time or another. Replacing the oil pump seals, and oil pump replacement has never solved the problem for me. The one thing that does work for me is flushing the engine with a cocktail of 1 can seafoam, 1 qrt ATF, 1/2 can. Gunk Motor Flush or Risoline, and 1 qrt 5w30 full synthetic oil. First I drain the old oil. Second I fill the crankcase with the cocktail and let it idle for about 20 min. (usually after 10min you can hear the tick dissapear) Third I drain the coctail and fill-up w/ 10w/30 oil and fresh filter. I have done the oil pump/seal replacement several times and the tick is still there after doing all that work The cocktail method works every time for me, and if it does come back I just do it again. Old school mechanics used to use straight Kerosene back in the day before all these modern cleaning agents were made. -

Grandma's Grocery Getter. 1986 GL 3spd Auto. 55,000 original grandma miles on it when I got it last year, still has the original floormats and subaru am/fm cassette player. -
HELP! Axle pin removal tool stuck!

I made my own roll pin punch by finding an old screwdriver with the same shaft diameter as the roll pin. Then cut the head end off. I always run the screwdriver through the hole first to make sure its lined up, and then tap in the roll pin. If the roll pin is not going in with light taps, then something isn't lined up right. -

Too many nice subies on this thread. Need more rusty beaters....behold...Frankenrustenstien. I rode it until the wheels fell off....then I put em' back on and rode some more! 300,000 and still going strong. -
