  1. Hello, appreciate any thoughts on this... I have a 93 legacy. it has massive miles on it, been used heavily in michigan, colorado and all over. for a few months my front passenger side wheel has been clicking. the cv boot was ripped so i assumed it was going bad. i let it go. now suddenlt i have massive grinding and i cant tell if its from tran or from that cv joint/axle. I have been reading other posts here about such issues and learned lots. Now my car is doing what the previous length trans chat was about. My car will roll in park. rev and not drive at at times etc. i am wondering of the tran is ruined or maybe it is the cv/axle broken off as Nipper suggested in the other discussion? also: i notice that my brakes are spongy, does brake fluid service the clutch? thanks for any input on this. Steve in Denver
  2. Hi, ok here is an update: I forgot to check the miles but will do that next time I am with the car. It has a ton I am sure a it was heavily used by the first owners and I have used it daily a well. Anyways, I pulled the cover as suggested and the timing belt is totally destroyed! shredded and it tatters. I am hoping I can replace it and the car will run again. I will replace the water pump as well as it has been acting up and maybe even it was the problem that cause the belt to be ruined... I will look at the chilton book for this, but if anyone has any tips or online infos let me know thanks again everyone
  3. hi ok i will investigate the timing belt issue as recently I think the water pump has gone bad so maybe it has stressed the belt.. anyways, i will remove a cover and inspect tomorrow. Could I pull the sensor, clean it and put it back? I read in one post that a person had a sensor covered in junk. it sounds normal when i try to start it. the timing belt has never been changed. I dont have a way to check compression. thanks, will report back tomorrow.
  4. Hi, Appreciate any advice on this. Today I figured out how to access the fault codes via the flashing "Check Engine Light" and here is what I have: * code 21: Water temperature sensor. * code 32: Oxygen sensor. * code 35: Canister purge solenoid valve * code 13: cam angle sensor codes from chart at: http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html The story: I have been driving the car for awhile now with the "Check Engine Light" on but never investigated why it was on. Suddenly a few days ago it just cut out on me on I-70. I had it towed. I inspected everything I could view. It does have gas, and the fuel pump is moving fuel. I don't have any spark. It wants to start so I think the starter is fine as you hear it work, turn over but never fire. I have never reset the computer so perhaps some of these faults are from the past? My guess is one of these has caused it to not spark but I am unsure which one I should tackle first. Any suggestions?
  5. ok good news, thanks to the help by everyone here I was able to locate the black wires, connect them and get the codes, four of them. ack. I will start a new thread as now I need to figure out what to do next. Thanks tons everyone.
  6. ok awesome, now i am getting some hope i have to walk 4 miles to get to where my car is broken down, but i will do that now and report back. i will also bring my coil pack in for a test thanks everyone for the help, wish me luck i love my subaru and hope to keep it alive
  7. Hi, thanks much. Do you know where the connectors are to make the CEL flash the code sequence? How many pins do they have? I see maybe one or two unused connectors but not two the same that belong together unless perhaps they are already connected. right now my CEL is just solid. thanks
  8. wow, thank you for your response. Ok cool, so really I dont need to access the ECU then. I have a "check engine light" which is solid right now. I looked for the connectors under the steering wheel to connect them but was unable to find them, unable to find any connectors that were not already connected. How many pins would these connectors have? I think I need to do this to make the check engine light do the codes (flashing) meanwhile, I will remove the coil pack and bring it to autozone in hopes that they can test it for me. thanks again
  9. Hello, My car has no spark and I cant figure out why. I would like to read the code on the ECU as this article talks of: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/USRM2/mick-usrm/electrical/ecucodes.html But I can't find my ECU with the flashing LED. My car is a Subaru Legacy 1993. The article says "all models" have this option, I hope this includes mine. Appreciate any tips Thank you
