Sweet BRAT. I'd love to be doing a trip like that in the old beast. Are you moving to MI then? Seems like more old school subies are finding their way here. I'm crossing the bridge quite frequently here, but I'll bet a BRAT hasn't made that crossing in quite some time.

bonvos 56 chevy stepside
Mechanical_misfit replied to bonvo's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
sweet truck! I had a `54 210 two door post that had the 235. Same old story, it sat for 20 years, and all I added gas and a battery and it started right up. I eventually did the carb rebuild and tune up, but you can't argue that these things were made to run! -
Make sure to use a tape deck cleaner and that thing should last you a while. I'm a big fan of the stock tape decks because cd players seem to get stolen too often in my town. Nothing beats a tape adapter and your ipod! Parked my ea81 in storage for now. Now I'm focusing on getting my winter car finished up before it snows here.

That is the coolest car of all time.

Well, the carb on this thing is still kinda finicky. I havn't been able to really tune on it much, but am getting a rebuild kit ordered. It drives great once its warmed up, but its a dog if its cold. I did cruise it around a bit today, and even used it to drag another crappy `80s econobrick home. That's right, an `87 Dodge K car!

The Desert Fox. My `84 DL Wagon

I did a lot of cruising around in my friends `86 Jeep Wagoneer today. We decided to cruise over to US-31 BBQ for some chilli, and I took some pictures. I figured I would throw them up here. I love the way these two cars look together. -
I currently switch between a 3.8l Oldsmobile and my ea81 for my dd. the olds rides great and is nice on he sleepy drive to work at 4am. But the desert fox is way more fun. I use the ea81 for my in town errands, $20 in gas last forever in that thing.

I can totally respect buying that one for a parts car, but it still really sucks to see what would be a "serviceable" ea81 here, so easily parted out further west. You've seen what we're working with in the east, its crazy. I'm going to make a full time business out of buying western cars and selling them here. what color interior does this have? I might be interested in some parts if you are chopping it up.

Thats awesome! I wish you could still find these cars around here.

So, I still have a 3.9 LSD that came from my first ea82. Is this a direct swap with my ea81? I know it would be better on the dunes, but what about in snow or normal winter driving? I know this place loves pics, so here are some more for those who want to see them. I need to touch up my emblem. After drinking this beer, I made it into an over flow tank for the radiator. Fueled it up for $3.59 a gallon! -
I have a fart can on my ea81 wagon. People hate about these mufflers all the time, but I love the way it sounds. Mine was used as a quick fix for the rotted stock exhaust. It dumps before the rear tires, and backfires pretty good when its cold. No hate here, I've seen people spend good money making uglier.

round headlight conversion
Mechanical_misfit replied to mcbrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
here is my favorite round head lamp converted car. I know it's not a brat, but just looking at the front you can imagine it. The change up would look sweet on your BRAT, but you're probably going to break them judging by the last pics you posted of the BRAT. I personally like the set up you have now. The whole package makes it look like the R/C BRATs. -
I'm not too picky on the bolt pattern, as long as it would be one that has some aftermarket options for wheels. I'm still not sure exactly what wheels I want to run, but as everyone knows, the 4x140 doesn't offer much selection. My set up would be for a stock ea81 with rear drums.

I replaced a bunch of vacuum lines today, and I'm about to head to the parts store to get a few more bits. The choke works now! It gave her a hard time starting this morning so I had to make that a priority. This carb is definitely going to require a rebuild. I'm considering finding one at the junk yard, rebuilding it, then doing a swap. This way it won't be down for too long. I really would like to eliminate some of these vacuum lines and this emissions stuff. MI doesn't smog test cars at all, so I could do it if I get motivated enough. I've also always believed that if it didn't have to be there, it wouldn't have been designed that way. I'm mainly concerned about opening a bigger can of worms by trying to eliminate some of this stuff. Would anybody care to share some info on simplifying this engine bay?

Well I got it tuned up and running well. Knock on wood. The plugs, cap. and rotor were in about as bad shape as you could imagine. I don't know how the thing was running. I replaced the air filter, as the old one was just about plugged. I also rigged the choke open for now. It was sticking closed. I'll have to address this when I get more time. Anyway, after a fill up, and some seafoam, we hit the road for a pumpkin patch not too far north of Muskegon. It drove great on the highway and I even caught her speeding with the thing on a county road. The neon that this wagoneer replaced was such a pile of crap, its awesome we were able to get a good running rig for a fair price. This pics show the condition of the interior, which still blows my mind. This thing has a super comfy ride too. Next up is new shocks and some rust repair. I wish I was making this kind of progress on the Desert Fox. Soon though, I just have to finish my `86 K car first

I'm also very interested in a set of these hubs!

This is one of my favorite flavors of Subaru! It's down right righteous you're logging miles in one of these guys like this. I'm envious that the Desert Fox hasn't taken me on such a trip yet. Keep on racking up them miles! Also, what brand and size tires are you doing all this driving on? Are you happy with their performance?

That thing is so cool. We need some pics of it driving up a volcano!

Heck yeah dude, thanks again for the hook up! -
Sweet BRAT and awesome pics from the drive home with it! It looks like we could get a midwest old school meet going now that more of these cars are turning up!
