  1. Hey Tom, Just wondering how your wagon project is going? Hope all is well!

    James

  2. this 91 sucks compared to my 86, but might be the next bad ride... finally replaced the water pump and the leaking hose connected right above it. I also deleted the non working a/c and painted the timing covers lime green!
  3. its good to hear some progress! with another nice subie to your collection, does that mean you need some garage space? like, maybe selling me a brat?
  4. I'm going to say to make your move after doing some research. I think BH is a great place. The economy is tough here in MI, but BH has one thing going for it, It's only got one place to go, and that's up. It's close to the most beautiful fresh water lake in the world, and it's also home to an awesome brewery called "The Livery". I can't say enough about our beer. We have something like 88 breweries open right now, and that is really taking off. As far as jobs go, it depends on what sort of field you're in. We are loosing our manufacturing job base, but I think we're on the down swing from that. A lot of talk is happening about revamping agriculture, and a lot is also going on in the entertainment sector. It can be hit and miss though. I'm fortunate to have had my job as a parts manager in a local body shop here in Muskegon. I've been here for 4 years and we've been growing ever since. I have been looking for another job for about 3 years now though, and have not had much luck. Grand Rapids is a pretty cool place to be, there is a ton of stuff to do there. The UP has some of the most beautiful landscape on this side of the country. Lastly, I really can't say enough about the great lakes. Lake MI is incredible! If anything, we've got pride. I can say, I've been through some very desolate places in Detroit, and it is not pretty, but there are pockets of prosperity. I think the country will see a turn around in Michigan soon. It's like the starving artist thing, you do your best work when you're in the face of defeat. And, it's true, there are no Subarus older than `95 left here, and even the 2000 and down models are getting rusty. I'm looking for another ea82 wagon body if you are heading this way...
  5. I wish... While I did save them, they are not chrome jackmans. They are the stock wagon wheels that the original owner had powder coated to match the car, and I added chrome trim rings. They do look great though, if i say so myself.
  6. I guess I'll post too, because I'm a little bit narcissistic. I really wish my beloved Gl wouldn't have died of rust, it looks great in this pic, but the underside was gone. here I am when I got my first outback, this was a nice car, I wish I still had it.
  7. it is, it took forever to find a stock working radio! Now lets see how long this lasts in my neighborhood. The good thing about this junky Loyale is nobody will think to look in it for something to steal.... I hope :-\
  8. He is right! I once brought home an `85 Toyota van, and my `86 gl was so unhappy, it convinced the van into killing it self (Blown Head gasket). Welcome to the obsession, uhh.... hobby
  9. looks like you got a keeper there Tom. I am jealous, because the rear sub-frame on mine finally broke due to rust, now I gotta find a new subie.
  10. best of luck friend! I'm sure if you managed to fit a 2.7 in her, a little bit of body work shouldn't be a problem.
  11. that wagon is looking great! also, can I see this recipe you speak of? maybe we could make a sticky out of it?
  12. Developed a loud knocking noise in my 86 wagon while on the way to see GWAR on Friday night. Now looking for a new motor.
  13. made the trip from Muskegon to Hillsdale to pick up parts for my rusty `86 wagon. A big thanks to TomRhere for the help and the hookup on 4 decent doors, a non-broken rear bumper, and a working stock radio! Also, messed with a cellphone camera while fueling up! I like this picture, it looks like its from back when this car was still new.
  14. its great to see some progress on this wagon! I hope all goes well with the new engine. Its so cool to see it being put to good use. I actually just found the car I had been looking for to put that motor into, but didn't have the cash and had to pass it up. This wagon is so sweet man! Also, I can check but I think I have a tail lamp for that ride. If you're getting rid of the stock stereo I would offer you a trade for a good tail light.
  15. I heard that you can still get a mastercraft avenger gt in that size, raised white letter too! http://www.discount-tires-2go.com/Store_Detail.cfm?ID=180590&InfoID=4853&ShowLarge=True im actually going to ask the local mastercraft dealer if these are still around or not.
  16. What do you love about your subaru and why? post two pics and a description. I can't explain what it is about my rusty crapbox wagon, but I love it. I hop in and drive and it makes me feel better. I parked my 98 ob because the 86 is just more..... fun i guess. I'm the second owner, and it had good maintenance all its life, But is slowly dieing of rust, but I still love it like it was a 2010 model.
  17. I hope this isn't off topic, but I'm curious about Brats. How does one of these little rascals drive compared to an ea82 wagon? Also, I'm about 6'1'' and wonder how comfortable it would be for me to drive one. I have been looking around and comparing prices on brats for about 2 years now and plan on buying one by next spring. I will have to do some traveling to get one seeing as there are none left here in MI, and would like to get some ideas before I decide for sure and get into something I wont like. Also, these are some fine looking vehicles all around!
  18. these trucks couldn't make this hill. my outback could stop were these guys were stopping, but I could start again and make the hill.
  19. im interested in this, when would you need money, and when will these kits be available
  20. i dont know how far you are from the west side of the state, but we are planing a small afternoon offroading trip if you are interested. contact me for more details

  21. i tried the same lift idea on the lower strut mounts on my outback wagon last night, i can do it, and even get the camber correct, but i would either need wheel spacers, or i would have to use some sort of fwd gm wheel, We tried one and it fit. With the Subie wheel, the tire rubbed the strut pretty bad.
  22. i know its a little off topic, but are those svx windows as much of a pain in the rump roast as they look like they would be? why didn't they just make them work like a normal window, and not be a halfie like that? but the h6 with a dual range is a good idea in my book.
