decided against the WRX seats and put my stock ones back in. Also just had to replace a tire because one had a busted belt. I hadn't been driving this one much lately, but got it back out to drive to work and balance the tires. I like that its quiet compared to TDF, and makes my 80 mile commute a little bit more relaxing. next up is a reseal of the oil pump, and then more driving! I'm also thinking of some winterforce tires on white wagon wheels for winter.

I got the same radiator from Oriely for my DL. the radiator cap was not included and was different from the original.

Greetings from MI
Mechanical_misfit replied to mcmono50's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Welcome! Where in MI are you from? Muskegon here. I maintain an 05 Baja for my parents, and its awesome in the winter. Ours is running 215/70/16 BFG all terrains. -
Glad we could meet up last night. Tom, you did some very nice work on this car. Good luck with the rest of your trip Jamie!

13 inch tire discussion
Mechanical_misfit replied to Mechanical_misfit's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I just swapped to a set of 175/70 winter force tires as well. I am happy so far but only have about 200 miles on them. these look to still be available from tire rack -
New clutch. No pedal. What gives?

Is the hillholder hooked up? -
I keep going back and forth on selling this thing. Any midwesters interested? I don't have the room for all my cars and I need to get some sort of plow vehicle for the coming winter.

13 inch tire discussion
Mechanical_misfit replied to Mechanical_misfit's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree with Brat82 that the 185/70s ride well on gen 2 cars. I just can't seem to find a good set through my local tire stores. -
This thread is dedicated to all of those who are still running stock 13 inch wheels on their EA. I personally find that the white wagon style wheels are hard to beat for our old cars, and are something that scream 80's subaru. The problem, as we all know, is the decreasing list of brands and sizes available in 13". I have found that the only viable option in my area is the Douglas Xtra Trac in 175/70/13. These are not the best quality, and a size too small for a 4wd ea. I am currently running Cooper Cobra 185/70/13 raised white letters. These are far past their life expectancy, and getting thin. I was very happy when I found them used two summers back but they're getting worn. I did like the 195/70 and the 205/60 for larger options, but those also seem to be out of style. 205/60s can still be had via eBay but are expensive and low quality. Raised white letters seem to be a thing of the past. So, I ask the community, where are you buying your tires, and what size?

10k miles on her now since purchased. Not much else. Got my rear drums turned, also installing wrx seats. I'll have a write up when done.

Glad to hear it found a good home! This one really needed to go to some one who will finish what Tom started. Can't wait to see more progress.

I'd do the fuel filters too before tearing into the carb.

Always the worst timing for me as I just picked one up. My partner would kill me. Hope this goes to a good home. Who is local that could give it a good home? Miles Fox?

I've saved fronts under the same circumstance too. Good luck with it.

My fwd loyale had the same issue with the rear wheel bearing. I pulled it apart, cleaned and repacked and assembled it. I'm 10k miles on that bearing now and have no issues. Sweet ride though dude! Can't wait to see where you go with it.

Subaru Sno-Way Snow Plow
Mechanical_misfit replied to Mechanical_misfit's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I actually do, but wanted to find out more info before bothering you with an email full of questions. Other than it being a logistical nightmare, I would love to have one of those plows. -
As the title says, I am curious about the plows that were once made for our old Subarus. Does anyone have any real experience with these? I've heard stories of different dealerships using them on their lots. I've also read about some townships using them as side walk plows. Unfortunatley, that is mostly just through the grape vine. I know Moosens has or had a few set ups. I've also heard other members have owned them as well. Any info, experiences, or discussion is appreciated. Pics are always nice too. I am interested because I have the ambition to build a Subaru plow car. I have a few small driveways that I feel could easily be tackled by my ea81 and dual range. I am experienced with plowing, and know how to not over work a clutch, although I'm expecting to hear a lot about them here. I'll start off with these pics for open discussion.

CLUTCH PROBLEMS EA81 1985 Brat
Mechanical_misfit replied to tdodge41's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
They do. I think we should be good to install it tonight and have this finished up. The bigger picture is this, How does one tell if they have the 200 or 225mm clutch before taking the engine or trans out? My 84 DL is due for a clutch and trans swap soon, and I don't want to go through these headaches again.
