  1. So, we took this trans back out again yesterday only to find that the clutch disc from advance was wrong. The splined part of the clutch is larger than the trans input shaft. The screeching was from the clutch disc just barely grabbing the trans. So, the kit from advance has the correct size pressure plate, but the clutch won't fit the splines on the trans. The kit from rock auto came with a disc and pressure plate that is too small to match the flywheel that is in the brat. At this point, I think we would be alright with only replacing the disc and reusing the original throw out bearing and pressure plate, but we don't have a good part number for the disc. Travis, make sure to post the diameter of your original disc wo we have something to go off of. The hair on my head is very precious, and I don't want to pull out anymore of it.
  2. True. I was also burned on a clutch job today. Ordered a Luk brand clutch kit for an 85 brat and didn't find out until the brat was on the hoist without its trans that they sent some other unit that is too small. Was also burned on an axle for my '84 DL.
  3. RX mouldings installed! Still have to do the rear. I've got 5k miles on it since I picked it up, and its going strong
  4. DIG IT! These wagons are really coming down in price. I picked one up for the same amount a year ago and it was a great driver. I'll look forward to your progress. What ever happened to the Ski Wagon?
  5. I love the stance and wheels. Can't say I'm a fan of the rust though. I've spent so many hours welding up old Subarus, and yours looks better than most I've started with. Got any pics of your suspension set up?
  6. Haha, the ironing board is actually a bike rack for an ea81 car. I've modified it to work on the loyale because I'm going to a bicycle swap meet this Sunday. I have a Yakima safari rack that fits it too.
  7. I've been thinking I might run the H alloys on TDF. Anyone got an opinion? I'm really happy with how they came out.
  8. I finally made time for a paint job! I still have to install some mouldings, and swap a fender and bumpers. I also have to prep and paint the RX trim, but I'm happy with the result. This is going to be Desert Fox MK2. Thanks again to everyone here for all the help, knowledge, and support!
  9. I will probably be the only who says it, but I like the red it is now. That olive drab is sweet though. Can't wait to see more progress.
  10. I finally got to start painting the recessed areas on ny H alloys. The tires were treated to some white paint maker for the letters. I finally got two good drivers side doors. I am now searching for a new drivers fender because some jerk backed into me. I really want to get this thing painted soon.
  11. Double post. I like the color.
  12. Haha. Wish mine looked half that nice. Good work.
  13. Nice! How was the trip back? I'd love to hitchhike out west and drive one back.
  14. Nice, glad to see that one found a good owner. I have seen it a couple times in person, and was very impressed with the build quality. What area are you from? This one came out of byron center right?
  15. Nice BRAT! did you end up selling the brown one you had? What car shows do you take yours to? Tdodge41 and I both take our subies out to a few shows when the weather is nice.
  16. good to keep them out of the salt anyway. What did you end up replacing it with? Also, I want that fwd trans you have. It will have to wait until the snow melts and I have TDF back on the streets though.
  17. Here's a pic someone took from this Summer. This kinda shows a better angle of how the legacy roof rack fits. I am still searching for a stock ea81 set up.
  18. This poor old girl is absolutely buried under this snow! I have started it a few times, and it gave me no trouble. I just can't bear the thought of it getting any salt on it, so it sits. I have plans for her, but really waiting to move to a new place with a garage. In the meantime, I'm ordering parts as I can afford them. She is going to need a clutch, a few seals, and a new radiator. I am also swapping in a dual range 4 speed at the same time as the clutch replacement. Miles Fox hooked me up with some of the needed parts for a rear disc swap. I am rebuilding the calipers, and still looking for backing plates and hubs. I did manage to acid dip the caliper brackets, and powder coated them Sodapop red.
  19. Lots of progress on this wagon considering I don't really have a garage to work out of. I've been driving it a in all this snow, and it actually goes pretty good. A few weeks back, Tdodge and I drove the BRAT to Wi. First up to Sheyboygan to pick up a topper, then down to rendezvous with MilesFox. Fox, I must thank you again for being a great host. The guy really knows old Subarus. He loaded the brat to the rafters with parts for my loyale. I got a ton of really cool stuff. Part of which was the RX body mouldings that I've been wanting. The rocker mouldings were warped from sitting, so I mounted them up to help straighten them out. I will be taking it all back off for paint. I also got a really nice passenger fender to replace my rusted one. I still have to head out to the junkyard to pick up the two drivers side doors I want, but this snow is making things a challenge. Soon though, and then paint will come soon after. I'm still pretty sure I want to five speed swap this, I just really wanna get the body work finished up first. Here are a few recent pics. without RX mouldings with
  20. I did undercoat the hell out of some of the trouble spots while you were doing brakes. That might help the rust a bit. I think you'll live without the snow tires.
  21. http://www.ebay.com/itm/131062986470?redirect=mobile A super nice restoratio. I wonder how many will be taken to this level.
  22. It's beautiful! I gotta ask where you found your tires. Rwl 13s are such a rare find.
