  1. So, Travis is a really rad dude you guys. When he let me use that sweet rig, my friend Jord came along for the ride.
  2. Thanks. The concern I had with the tires was because of their age. I got them from a dude who had put them on a nicely restored RX7, which was wrecked soon after getting these new tires installed. He saved them in his barn for a really long time. I use lots of tire shine on them, and they seem to be holding up just fine. I replaced my rear shocks again, with the $5 Monroe shocks that were on Rockauto. the ride is better, and I think the rear sits a little bit higher now. I had to swap out another front axle! The Drivers side lost its inner boot, and I actually broke the inner joint. not too happy about that. It seems like everything is tight under there, and the trans mounts are fine, so I'm not sure what happened. I think that's it on updates. For the future, i have a set of wheels almost ready for some powder, and will probably do the A bar at the same time. Here's some more pics.
  3. Thanks to ShawnW for the push bar. I've had it since i think Feb, but just installed it a few weekends ago. I was gonna powder coat it, but i think i like the patina.
  4. Awesome dude! I was following your Instagram and Facebook posts too, it looks like it was a blast. I still wish we coulda seen some pics of this thing haulin the mail down the beach.
  5. Well, I've got about 1000 miles on these tires. No signs of danger, and they actually ride great. Here's some pics from a few weeks ago on the dunes.
  6. Here's a pic of one of the wheels after it came out of the oven, Im actually planning on doing quite a few of these!
  7. Very cool project! I've seen a restored version online, and thought it was really cool. What material is the body made out of? I imagine it doesmt weigh too much if a corvair engine moved to around originally, I would think a 2.5 would be up to the task.
  8. As always it was a fun time. It was fun to drive the wagon. Took me a minute to get the feel of the shifter, as my 4 speed is all over the place. Thanks again for the hook up on parts. I know Travis is getting excited to start patching up the BRAT and my wagon will be happier once I get to welding up my rockers as well. I managed to snap a pic of TDF and the GL together
  9. I found this pic a while back, but my stoney recollections aren't telling me where. Anyway, u think this Ski Team hatch makes things interesting. It's also shown with a gen 1 brat so it could be an early hatch.
  10. My 84 wagon runs a gutted cat, into a two inch straight pipe to a straight through 4 inch muffler that dumps befor the rear axle. It's kinda loud on long road trips but flows freely and I can feel the difference between it and a restricted stick exhaust. The engine seems to breath easier.
  11. I've been busting my butt to get a set of wheels powder coated for this rig. I should be spraying them tomorrow morning, provided Tdodge brings some beer over and helps me finish stripping them.
  12. I think those wires to the speaker boxes are spliced in to the door speaker wires at the radio connection and something came loose when you had it apart to install the working tape deck.
  13. Got the tires installed. Tdf is riding so much better now. I will post pics in a few days and give an update on how they hold up. These things are probably 10 years old, maybe older.
  14. It's probably a loose connection at the point were those extra speaker wires are spliced in. Pull your radio and check those connections.
  15. Yep, he made the desert fox stripes and I was very impressed with the qualityoff the material and the finish of them. I've had lots of experience with decals from my time in the autobody trade. These were just ad high quality as similar decals that I've installed on police cars, so really durable stuff.
  16. I scored big time today! Drove three hours to pick up four like new 205/60/13 Cooper Cobras. Also got three other raised white letter tires in the same size. All for $95. Four have some sweet rx7 alloys on them, so hopefully I can make some cash selling those. I'm pretty stoked to have my tires checked off the list. The current baldies are cooked!
  17. Pooparu made the stripes for my wagon and they turned out great. Go with his stripe kit.
  18. My calender is marked, and my time off is all set. Now I just need to make sure my wagon is all set for the trip, 2300 miles one way!
  19. Twice now I've stepped over into the new gen realm. I had a fully loaded 98 Outback limited. Heated leather, AC, cruise, and over all in great shape over all. I sold it off a year later to pocket some money and drive a $300 '86 GL with no options. Everyone thought I was crazy. I did the same recently when I picked up a '00 Outback. I drove it long enough to miss my current '84 wagon. Now the Outback is parked waiting to be sold. For me, its this. The old gens are way more fun. I love cruising around in The Desert Fox because it gives you the full old car experience. Its like driving a street legal 4wd go cart. Plus, they're cheap to insure, and maintain.
  20. The seats in my 84 wagon are from a 97 escort. There are much nicer. To install them, you use your stock seat rails and bolt them to the new seat. You will have to oval out one the holes on each of the brackets. Them just bolt them in and go.
  21. I've used remans on the past, and had mixed results. I just installed two new EMPI axles in my 84 wagon and can say they looked, felt, and ride much better than any reman units I've used.
  22. Welcome to the USMB! it seems like most of the Subies in this state are up in the TC area. I have heard rumors of some lifted legacies up that way.
