  1. Well, in the driver category, I think I might have the edge. I've rallied those roads before. Also, having a lightweight car makes a HUGE difference in traction. Not to mention I have loads more control over the tires with a manual and manual steering. I get direct feedback where as you've got a couple of "nanny" devices between you and the road. Also, look at peak power. I get my power soooo much quicker than you do. Peak torque at 2400 rpm, you get it at 4000 rpm. My power band is ending as yours is just beginning. If mine hits 5k its running out of breath, but yours will have to keep pushing to peak out the HP. But we'll see. Twitch PS: Mine's tail happy, what's yours?
  2. Lol, I wasn't referring to regular platinums, I always go a step up and get the +2's. They are much more resilient than the regular platinums. I've had ash deposits grow on my +2's in my lego and it was still firing properly. They sold me with their hot burning, long durability and efficiency. Never tried the regular platinums, but for $4 more and twice the spark contact, I can't get myself to downgrade. They'll be fine, I promise Thanks for the well wishes Twitch
  3. Thank you for fixing that Think it'll be back together by then? And do you think it'll be able to keep up with the hell on wheels my BRAT is? Yes, it's mostly stock, but it's still quick. No idea on the blue wagon yet. It's still in the tuneup stage. Twitch
  4. Hmmmm, didn't think about camping, but that'd be cool. I have no idea for dates, as my schedule is still a mess and a nightmare. Somebody just name a date and we'll see if it's viable. June 11th. Second Saturday in June, would make for a warm enough night and is pretty safe weather wise. Idk if I'll make it over or not, depends on if I get any jobs soon or not. Blue wagon would be a light rally vehicle, BRAT would take just about any hell we throw at it. Those are my vehicle choices. Lets make a tally of those who are going for Rally and those who are going 4 wheelin'. I'm most likely going to be Rally. Please, pipe up with whatever idea's you've got. Twitch PS: Driver List: Twitch- Rally/light 4 wheel GWAL- Rally/light 1 wheel? CChic- Rally/light 4 wheel? TWSS- Gnarly Offroad?
  5. Thanks for that :-p I got a vacuum leak fixed, old crusty hose at the base of the carb was hissing like a snake. replaced it with an old coolant hose from a buick and it was fixed. Cleaned the carb while the air cleaner was off of it. It runs a little better, but still needs a tune up. I think I'll get a K&N air filter if it proves itself to be a worthy dd. As soon as I get a job it'll be getting some Bosch platinums and new wires. Rumble, rumble Twitch
  6. Lol, only if I have the tires to support it. 5 lug swap is on the list. EJ205 with an upgraded exhaust, upgraded intake and engine remap with multiple modes, switchable on the fly Just a little bit of what I want to do... Twitch
  7. Lol, I was referring to the plugs on the transmission, not the ecu. I made an adapter to plug the auto plug from the car side into the manual plug on the tranny side. I believe it's just one wire that needs to be an open circuit or a closed, I don't remember which. But that one wire is what tells the computer if it's got an auto or a manual. Twitch
  8. BAM! The wiring diagrams and other stuff I used in my swap. This is courtesy of Legacy777 aka Josh. Some of his plug diagrams are backwards and/or upside down, but if you follow the wiring diagram more closely than the picture diagrams, you should be able to get it swapped over just fine. I clipped the plug off the wiring harness from the manual and the plug off the auto transmission and made an adapter. I can tell you what colors go where if you want me to, as that is probably the most confusing part of the instructions. Also, you might want to make sure you don't have a speed sensor on the tranny rather than a speedo cable. And if you do have a speed sensor, see if you can just leave it in the tranny and run a speedo cable into the tranny for speed reading. Now, being that your transmission is an OBDII, some of this info may not be accurate, just a reminder. Twitch
  9. With your username I figured you wanted a sleeper anyway They are lighter and if you get the XT, with a few mods you can be pushing 300hp no prob. Just upgrade your suspension and diffs and you can keep up with STi's. Then if you want to push past that there are all sorts of ways to go faster. An upgraded up-pipe and down-pipe with free flowing exhaust sounds AMAZING on those cars. One of my friends has a WRX that will make you wet yourself just from the noise it makes. Now, for transmission choices, if you stick with getting an 03 or earlier Imp 5 speed for a tranny (Most Fozzy XT's came with slushboxes, WTH?), they have helical front LSD's available for them, as well as upgraded gear sets. Just do a little searching in the new gen, as well as clicking on the blue links right below the title bar. Dirty Impreza would be a great place for rally type stuff, where as NASIOC would be better for street, if you can filter through all the nonsense posts. No that is not a shot at NASIOC, there just tends to be a lot of non-helpful conversation posting. Subaru Forester.org is good as well for all around stuff. Hope you enjoy your stay and feel free to check out all the forums and please, make good use of the Search bar, it is your friend and free to use Twitch PS: Check out the groups, you're in the North Western's area You can find the group in your "User CP" under "Social Groups"
  10. Yeah, I hear ya. 14" is the new 13". Good luck finding a 13" in anything other than summer and snow, if you can even find those... If you could handle a bigger size, Grabbers still come in 27x8.5 R14. But that's if you wanted bigger. Not sure who else has a decent tire in 14" any more. Twitch
  11. Welcome! If you want to build a sleeper tuner (not a ricer) I highly recommend going for the Forester. They are built on the same platform as the Impreza, and therefore accept the same parts (WRX, STi, Aftermarket, Etc) but can haul more than just @$$ They are also lighter than the WRX Just don't go for any of the 09 and up models, as those will be much more costly to upgrade, and are heavier as they are based on the 08 Imp platform. I believe the 03 Forester was the first year turbo(?) but I know it was the first year of the updated GD8 Imp platform and the facelift. Those are fun to weird people out with. They don't expect a box to turn like that Anyway, that's just my suggestion Twitch
  12. Ahahahahahaaaaaa!!!! You call that bad rust? Lolz, I've rallied my 85 and it has more rust than that. The doors don't connect at the bottom any more. The driver's side floor board is being held on in that corner by the carpeting! The rear strut towers have 10x the rust on them, to the point I had to screw some old sheet metal over the holes to keep mud from splattering up on my rear window! Have fun restoring it and don't let it intimidate you. Mine will run me into the ground if I let it think it intimidates me. Thanks for the name drop on the company that does rocker panels, I'll be looking them up. Sweet pix, but poor cars. Esp that red hatch, it was beat to hell and back. And I noticed all of the cars were EA81's and EA71's. Not an EA82 of the bunch. Doesn't that say something, all you EA82 guys?!? *prepares to duck* Twitch PS: Sweet BRAT, hope you can keep it going for a long time
  13. Are you thinking of the one on the border? Because that would be a sweet track to run around for a few hours. Twitch
  14. You kidding me? Your rigs have more clearance than the BRAT! And that thing has taken me through hell and high water. I really need to fix that exhaust, but hey, it doesn't drag too bad during rally Only if I bottom out the struts on jumps Twitch
  15. Lol, that's funny. Your car is red though, right? :-p Lol, maybe we should name them "Thing 1" and "Thing 2". Thatswhatshesaid, lol, you have a serious power lust don't you? :-p I was thinking low compression high boost turbo setup, but fear the turbo lag. Maybe a high compression quick spooling small turbo setup? Quick response, rev happy, and fuel efficient. And I'd be more than happy with 250 whp and 300ft lbs of torque, in that light of a car. That thing could put up a fight with Suberdave's 87 wagon with the right suspension setup. Twitch
  16. It's an 83, an early 83 actually, built in 11/82. Sorry, no plaid. Striped cloth and vinyl. The seat fabric on the rear seat's comes off surprisingly easy. It'll make getting some of the nastier spots out easier Rally it is Twitch
  17. I wish, but no. This one is a half and half, me and my dad. I'm gona buy him out as soon as I get $150 saved up With this one I think I'll keep it low, but that depends on how it drives after the tune up. If it drives like an ofroader, it might become one, but if it's more civilized than the BRAT (what isn't?) it'll probably stay low. The body is so solid, it'd almost be a shame to lift and wheel it. Oh, and the 4 speed is soooo solid. Very little slop (for a 4 speed) nice and clunky, and just overall solid. Engine sat for over a year and didn't drip a drop of oil Oil was still a beautiful brown and full. A light tap upon the first start in forever, but after that, nothing but a light rumble, from the engine anyway :-\ Something is whistling in the engine bay And all my vacuum lines are plugged or connected and I've checked the intake for holes. I can't find anything. But I'll be pulling apart the PO's mess and reorganizing it and plugging everything back in. Twitch PS: Pix to come of the engine bay after I start digging into it
  18. I don't think your GM inspired OB can handle the corners like the BRAT If we do Rally that is. Offroad, your jeep can have the difficult trails, my BRAT Likes the high speed low difficulty trails. It's no crawler, but it has the torque to pull itself around. Twitch PS: Thanks Ed, I think I'll post a link
  19. MOAR PICTARS!!!!!! Lol, the only gauge that works right now That's the original paint color. The pic didn't turn out quite like I was hoping, but there is silver flake in the paint and it's gorgeous! Clearance! Anyway, I'm not driving it yet, but hope to me soon Twitch
  20. I bet Stanley's faster downhill (with a tailwind and the impreza's e brake stuck and engine off ) Still loving your little dude When are you going to bring him over the pass? We wanna see him over here on the east side of the state too! And I know a couple of places that would be stoked to have another tiny Suby be in attendance. Twitch
  21. Yes, it is tomorrow... My new one! As you can see, the tail end is way jacked up, and it doesn't have lift blocks, thank you PO... It's rolling on some sweet almost new 185/80 SR13's rugged all seasons. I vacuumed out the interior, but have to shampoo out a couple gooey spots. Needs a tune up, it has a miss and is a slow reactor to the gas pedal. There is a vibration on the driver's side that I'm going to hunt down after I get rid of the miss. Rear brakes grind, sounds like I got a rock stuck in the pass side drum. Might need new brakes soon, but that can wait until I get the title for it and get it registered. Almost no rust, only a pocket under the pass side rear door, some under the bumper from getting hit and the the typical stuff growing on the bottoms of the doors and behind the wheels. And I know, some of you are like "It looks like a POS" and "Why would you want that?" and "What happened to the paint?" Well, the PO rattle canned it this shade of blue, failing miserably at putting it on. I'm going to take that stuff off and bring it back to it's gorgeous original baby blue color. Not sure what the color code is, but I love the color already, and I've only seen a coupe in this shade. Hope to see you guys when I'm out driving sometime! Twitch PS: This will not be getting Rallied until all the major issues are resolved, and yes, brakes are a major issue :-p
  22. I've got a new baby but you'll have to wait for pix and details until tomorrow... Twitch
  23. Do you have the clips that hold the cable in place on each end? Your cable sleeve may be moving if those clips are missing. It does sound a lot like my second solution, drilling a hole in the U shaped bracket that attaches the cable to the pedal. I highly recommend unhooking the cable from the throwout fork, to allow smooth operation of the pedal without interference, and sliding under your dash to see if the bracket is catching and not allowing a full throw out of the pedal. I just drilled a hole slightly larger than the pin closer to the cable and ran my pin through right there. If you have an aftermarket cable, I highly recommend looking at where it connects to the pedal, as this is probably a very common interference point. Twitch
  24. Ehhhh, depends on what schedule Radishack decides to lock me down on, (if they decide to lock me down :-\ ) That seems a little early unless we get any takers! I was hoping to be able to afford a tank of gas before we head out, and that may not happen until later in June. Pipe up other peeps! Twitch
  25. *jaw hits floor* Uhhhh, hi (in the tone of voice the nerd gets when the prom queen says hi) Wow, that thing is beautiful! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! We love pictures and old beauties like that, and when you post pictures of old beauties like that, well, a lot of us get excited! Again, Welcome! Twitch
