  1. How to service your clutch and parts located in the bellhousing WITHOUT removing your transmission or draining the fluid 1. Lift the car up approx 1ft and support it properly 2. Place your jack directly under the transmission and apply a small amount of pressure to the bottom of the tranny, using the jack. 3. Unhook all cables and wires from the tranny, this is very important if you don't want to have to replace your speedo cable. 4. Unbolt the 4 bellhousing bolts 5. Secure the driveshaft to the rear of the transmission, baling twine or tie down straps work fine for this. 6. Unbolt the driveshaft from the rear diff, it should fall off the diff easily 7. Make sure the driveshaft doesn't slide out of the rear of the tranny, tighten your attaching strap as necessary to prevent this 8. Unbolt the tranny crossmember, allowing the weight of the tranny to rest on the jack. 9. Separate the transmission from the engine, this part may require some wiggling and finagling, but do not let it drop off the jack or the crossmember. 10. Slide the tranny back far enough to access the parts to be serviced (disclaimer, you may have to remove the clutch/pressure plate/flywheel to access some parts) 11. Service necessary parts 12. Installation is the opposite of removal. Sorry for the lack of pix, last time I did this I didn't have a camera available Twitch
  2. Tortured it on a 1000 mile drive, with a baja excursion in the middle. Unfortunately I think I toasted my right front cv axle, as my boot failed and I think I got some sand in there... And it has play in the shaft when sitting still. So since I know the bearings inside are shot, do I just take a grinder and hack off the axle at inner cup and call it good, or do I pull the axle, hope its rebuildable and find myself just an outer cv cup? Decisions, decisions... Edit: Good job nipper! Looks like you're gonna have your redheaded stepchild playing with the rest of the children in no time Twitch PS: I am BROKE, so that's why I'm considering these options
  3. I believe its only for changing direction. So you only need to press the brakes for the shift from reverse to park, or drive to reverse, etc. And I believe the Loyales had a 4EAT for the first(?) year? then switched back to the 3AT to bring more attention to the Legacy. Twitch PS: And most every Subaru AT I have seen has a lockout override switch
  4. Awwwww, poor little guy looks sad... Hope you get the #&%) you're looking for (no that's not a curse) But wasn't this the one that went swimming? Twitch
  5. Don't worry, we don't hold honda's against anyone, they're usually really cold and hard :-p Hey hey, I'm here too Not quite the welcoming committee, but I usually show my ugly mug often enough. Twitch
  6. You should PM McBrat or pooparu about USMB stickers.

I got some from Mick that were top quality.

  7. I know this is a dead thread and the OP's project failed, but I was just curious if this would be possible without the EGR carp. Take an EA82 intake and hitachi non-feedback carb and bolt it on. Would I need a different disty, or would the EA81 disty suffice for the carb setup? I've been looking for a way to upgrade my intake without having to go the weber route or FI, unless I find an EA81T w/associated parts to use. Its not necessary as my EA81 carb is still working great, but I was just wondering if it was a viable option. Twitch
  8. Are you talking about the one on the front of the console? If so, that's just the lockout override switch. If you have to press that every time to move the shifter, your lockout switch needs attention. Also, you need to press the brakes every time you change from park to reverse/drive/neutral, or from drive to reverse/park or visa versa, but I'm sure you knew that already... Twitch
  9. Mwahahaha, I'm BACK! It was most fun, met some new family, reintroduced to old family, reuinited with more family... It was awesome overall. I saw a couple older subes, but they were gen 3's at the oldest, and nobody really waved Sorry I didn't get to see anybody, but it may have been awkward with the family there :-\ I went Baja-ing got pix and video too I just have to wait for my cuz to e-mail it to me THEN THERE WILL BE MAYHEM!!! You guys will be able to see how horrible of a driver I actually am Anywany, it was awesome and I hope to be able to make it down there again soon, maybe this time to meet some suber guys and gals Twitch
  10. True, but you can drive on the beaches around fort stevens (that's the name of the campground, not clatsop, my bad), and they aren't too bad. I've seen a couple FWD cars out and about in there, just not too far out. Thanks for the offer, but I got out of first Gen's a while back. Unless a car gets given to me, I'm not likely to be needing any parts Anybody else need parts? Phone number posted below... Oh, and before I go, which will be soon, I'm posting up my phone number, so if anybody wants to contact me, they can. Remember though, I'll be driving through WA in a noisy BRAT with a bluetooth speakerphone, so it may be difficult to talk while driving. If i can't understand you or its too irritating for you to talk to me, I'll call you back at the next rest stop, or munchies stop PH# (208) 6six1-8two09, written digits are for a spam guard. Twitch PS: Hope to see y'all on the flipside
  11. Best place to mount your temp sensor would be directly above the thermostat, IMHO. It'll be in an easy place to work on, and I believe there is a spot to mount it, but don't quote me on that one, its been a while since I owned a gen 1. Or, you could just wire in a switch in your cabin. I know there are a lot of places to mount a switch in those cockpits. I run one of those on my gen 2 on the stock fan, it should work just fine on your aftermarket setup. And for either application, make sure you get your polarity right, as that will affect your fans' direction of rotation. Twitch
  12. It may be the spark plugs are getting fouled out by the quantity of coolant being sucked into the cylinders. Also, the lack of compression on 2 or more cylinders would cause it not to run. Could just be trying to push air in an open cylinder. When you get the car, try giving it extra gas when starting, it may allow the car to run for a little bit. I know most Subaru engines can run on two cylinders, if given enough gas. Both my EA81 and EJ22 have run on two, but I've never dealt with an EA82T, so your experience may be different. Twitch
  13. Ok, the dual exhaust port theory isn't completely accurate. My 90 with a 91 engine has dual exhaust ports. I'm not too terribly sure on how to ID them other than using the serial #. If you had the time, you could pull the timing belt and set the valves out and see if the crank hits them when you crank it around by hand. That should tell you if its a interference EJ22 or not. But that'll take plenty of time and it may be easier just to look it up by the serial number. Twitch
  14. Its actually easier to remove the radiator and fans than it is to remove the fans alone, and you get another couple inches to work with. Just drain your coolant into clean container, so you can reuse it, and the radiator pops out with just 2 bolts and the removal of the upper radiator hose. You may need to pull the reservoir, but that's just one bolt on the bracket that holds it in. Don't forget to unplug your fans before you yank the radiator out too far.. Twitch
  15. Congratulations on getting such a rare car I like to refer to them as the original Forester Oh, and welcome to the forum :-p Twitch
  16. Well, make room in your schedule for this weekend and I'll already be down there How about Canon Beach? Or maybe Seaside, its closer. Twitch
  17. Ok, thanks, so I'd basically follow the columbia, right? At least that's what the map shows... Twitch
  18. Hey, just got my route completely figured out, I'll be going down Highway 395 from I-90, to I-82, then to I-84 across to Highway 101. So, is there anybody hiding along my route? (Indrid Cold, I know you're on my route ) Twitch PS: I just looked at the Northwest Folks thread and a few of you should at least pop in :-p
  19. Much thanks my friend It'll be a white, rusty 2nd Gen, might have a canopy, might not. Twitch PS: The only part I suspect I may have issues is on my beach cruise
  20. Well, to get mine to break loose, it took almost half a can of PB Blaster, and a breaker bar with 2 pipe extensions. And the breaker bar was NOT happy. Nah, that sounds pretty good right there. I wouldn't do it, but I'm young and poor But, think of it this way, after you do it yourself, you have that knowledge, and you still have that tool you needed to buy for the job Twitch
  21. So I'm making a trip down to the Astoria area, and wouldn't mind if I happened to meet some Subaru people while I'm down there I'll be staying in the fort clatsop campground (I think that's the name of it), right off the coast. I think I'll be taking the BRAT, so if there's anybody willing to assist if I have any issues, that would be GREAT. Anyway, I'll be leaving thursday, and I'll be there all weekend. Twitch
  22. You're welcome JK, I probably didn't help too much Enjoy your stay, and keep searching! Twitch
  23. Beautiful work so far. I hope the rest of the car looks as good as that side shot, when you're finished that is Keep up the good work. Twitch PS: Was the 360 truck thrown in just for fun?
  24. Good luck with that. Let us know if anything grenades Oh and if it does, pictures are a MUST. Just out of curiosity, what other differences are there between the two trannys? Twitch
