  1. I'm in total agreement with GD on this one. They are abundant as dirt. Even though they are so abundant, you still want to check out the ones you have, as there are Jackman brand wheels floating around. These will probably garner you a pretty penny. Examples of them are given here on the "Subaru of the 80's" site. But the likelyhood of finding these is rather rare, hence the price difference. Twitch
  2. Sorry, to burst your bubble on the 5spd, but its about the same as the 4spd. Maybe a little higher RPM's... I've been doing some interior fixin' too. Just yesterday I started sketching out a stereo box to replace the thrashed one that's in there now. I'm thinking a log Also, started making an attachment system for my lego headrests for the jumper seats Got the seat frame mounted too. Now I'm going to fit on my all weather seat covers They're a heck of a lot softer than the plastic seats Anywho, lets get this rollin'! I'm going to P&S tomorrow to get a rear end for my BRAT, anybody wanna come and help? Twitch
  3. Well Crap. Sounds like if we do fix it, its going to be a revolving door of transmissions. Hrmmmm... And a rebuilt one is going to run $600-$1000. Any other advice that can be given? Twitch
  4. Great... Ok, well, in reverse the car made a clunking sound when backing up. So I guess that was a clue huh? Ok, what's the likely-hood that we're gonna have to replace pretty much everything inside the transmission? Twitch
  5. I looked around at that car, the engine is probably shot. I heard from another member that the 85 has no diff lock? (Baccaruda I think said that) But the guy wants to sell it whole, and not really part it out. And as for the advice given above, with the EJ, you get more HP, more torque, better reliability, and less maintenance than the EA82T. Also, as was already mentioned, the diff stub axle counts are different and would require modified axles. Twitch
  6. Well, we've got some trans tune in the tranny, cleaning out the clutch plates, but we still get torque bind WITHOUT the FWD fuse. With the fuse there still is the occasional shudder when cornering, but its been mostly wet around here, so not much dry pavement testing as of late. New question, will the duty C solenoid out of an XT6 4EAT match up? I'm pretty sure it will, but I think the output shafts are different? I've done a fair amount of searching (couple pages) and didn't come up with solenoid swappability. I know the TCU's will swap, but I've got a spare one of those sitting around, in case it needs swapping. So, anybody have any experience in this? Twitch
  7. Friend just bought a Jetta, was driving, threw it into 3rd, and it got stuck. We've been working on getting it tore apart, but it has been stalled by a stupid wheel stud adapter (I broke it before we could get the second wheel off ) Anyway, do you guys have any idea what could have broke or be the problem? We were told by a VW shop that its possible that a shift collar broke inside and jammed, and if we ever get it back out of 3rd, it'll get stuck if it ever gets put in 3rd or 4th again. I'll be asking more questions as we go along, but I know some of you out there are VW nuts, so throw out your knowledge please! Twitch PS: Remember, this is a transversely mounted I4, not a flat four.
  8. Yes, unless its an XT, they should swap across no problem. Just about any 80-89 GL/DL alt should bolt in Twitch
  9. Holy cow. I've seen those shelves take a lot of weight, but DAYUM. I'll post up a pic when I can, but we've got a shelf that runs the entire length of the garage. Twitch PS: Our shelf is packed as well, btw.
  10. That is a sweet little pickup. And what the writer said about the car is what people used to say about the BRAT, I think :-p Subaru needs to take a page out of Pugeot's book. They are doing the BRAT to a T with that vehicle, minus the AWD/4WD. If Subaru just did the same body layout, with a 4x140 bolt pattern and an EJ D/R, they would have a supreme winner. Twitch
  11. The Athol of Idaho, out in the boonies. 83801 is the zip if you don't believe me Its also known as the town with the most alcohol consumed per capita in the USA Twitch
  12. Ummmm... I hate to burst your bubble, but that's a 95 model. It may have been built in 94, but its a 95 model. Anywho looks like you're doing good work And can it really be a trashwagon if Miles doesn't own it? Twitch
  13. Ha! 260k is nothing. It just needs a reseal and it'll go another 260k. Stump jumping is what these cars were made for :-p What else are you supposed to do with a car with 4 wheel drive? Twitch
  14. Twiddle with your clutch cable. Mine would slowly back off for no apparent reason. Just readjust it until you can get it into gear, or the slipping stops, whatever the problem may be. Good job And a trans swap is fairly easy, esp with Bill and Jerry (Bratsrus) nearby. Twitch
  15. Sorry you guys can't make it, but hopefully we can see you at WCSS or another meet Right now I am scraping like no other to make sure I can make it. Its gonna be squeaky, but I'm doing my best. Twitch
  16. Ok, I think some responsible drinking should be fine. I won't be consuming any, but I don't see why we shouldn't allow moderate consumption. And if anybody gets too out of control, we can make Monstaru the securitay. Hope it doesn't come down to that though... Plus, we will have a bunch of little pickups with seats in the back. I'm sure we could put together a system that would allow us to strap someone down until their sober Twitch
  17. This thread will point you where you need to go. But just to make it a little bit easier, I'll give you the details you need. SOHC V6 Nissan Maxima 1986-94 It'll be on the bottom of the engine, directly behind the passenger side wheel well. All you need to do is swap pulleys and grind down the EA spacer and it'll all bolt right in. (Paraphrased from GD) Twitch
  18. Well, build quality, design, 4WD/AWD, and their inherent quirkyness I personally like anything pre 96. They are all non-interference engines and are very reliable. If you are looking for comfort, I highly recommend the first gen legacies, or a 96 outback if you're looking for an Outback. A few of those have 2.2L non-interference engine. If you're willing to live in a more spartan environment, then I would greatly encourage you to get an EA81 car. They rattle, shake, and are overall underpowered for the freeway, but you can't beat the lack of timing belts, or the easy upgrading. Twitch
  19. It sounds like a alt failure to me. I would get a cheap replacement alt from the Junkyard. Swap them out and see if it helps. Or you could just get a Nissan Maxima alt and swap pulleys and have a 90 amp where a 55 amp used to sit. The 55 amp alternators are rather pitiful, and any decent amount of drain will make your voltage drop to the levels you're seeing. My 87 wagon's 200w stereo will cut out if the engine is idling. So, an upgrade is a very good and recommended option. Twitch
  20. I believe your Justy is also the same body/mechanical parts as a Geo Metro. So if you can find one of those with decent seats, they may fit. I'm pretty sure they shared components with the Suzuki Swift as well, so those may garner you things to work with as well. Twitch
  21. Don't worry, as long as you are diligent and search, everybody on here is usually pretty cool. And I agree with the prognosis everyone has been giving, sounds like a CV axle going kaput. Only other thing I could really think of would be wheel bearing, but those usually make noise no matter what. Twitch
  22. I hate to do this, but look at the FAQ in off road, and the regular FAQ. They have loads of information on this sort of thing. Also, from seeing what others have done on the board, I know a Gen2 can fit 27"s with only minor trimming and no lift. As Ben pointed out, you can fit 27" on a Gen3 with only a 2" lift, and no trimming. But please, just look up the info in the FAQ's. Twitch
  23. Done this, it sucks and seems to take forever, but it works. (at least for me it did) Twitch
  24. Wow, lucky find. Gotta love those 2 or 3 owner cars. I find it amusing, that this car is practically just the turbo sedan version of my sister's new car. Hers has all the options listed as yours does, just no turbo and in a wagon (and no LSD, of course). I'm just kinda surprised at the fuel mileage listed, 18-24? And that's only 7 mpg above the lowest on the group I just hope that's the fuel mileage if you keep your foot in it. Twitch
