  1. Ok, I'll try having her take the fuse out and drive it like that for a while. We just put in cheapo walmart tranny fluid until we can get the problems worked out. If it makes the torque bind go away then awesome, if not, then I guess I'm just going to have to find her a new tranny. Now for the vibration, I'm still hunting that problem down. I'm going to check out the axles hopefully tomorrow. But, I'm almost positive that its not the axles, but being an intermittent problem, it may point even more towards the axles since the problems with them tend to be under specific conditions. Twitch
  2. I've tried that stuff in the past, and it has only really helped hard shifting and the occasional gear stall (not going when you want it to) Well, with the new fluid, the torque bind diminished somewhat. And if it is the clutch packs, I'm just going to swap in a new transmission, its not worth it to pay a few hundred dollars for new clutch packs, when I could get a decent used tranny that's warranteed for 6 months for almost half price. And I'm pretty sure its the torque converter not slipping smoothly, but I need to do more testing with the car, when I get the time. Twitch PS: And there is NO torque bind with the fuse installed, we cannot get the back tires to tear up gravel with the FWD fuse in.
  3. He actually borrowed his mom's caravan :-\ But they made it into missoula around 8 or so, or 9 mountain time. Twitch
  4. Just got a text from Markus56, and he's only a few miles from Spokane Soon to be in Spokane Twitch
  5. I'm getting by with a cheap craftsman set right now, the 156(?) piece set. It came with 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 inch drives. And it has metric and standard from 5mm up to 19mm, and 1/4" to 3/4". It came with a few extras such as a bit driver and allen wrenches that I quickly replaced. But otherwise it has been a pretty good set for the various mechanicing I've been doing. I ditto all the advice everybody has been giving, buy the best you can afford. If you can afford a $1000 set of Snap On wrenches and ratchets, go for it. I have yet to hear of a Snap On tool failing unless being severely abused. So if you can only afford the $20 set from harbor freight right now, go for it, its better than no tools at all. Twitch
  6. Welcome Roger! Believe it or not, but you've got quite a few sube nuts around you. Monstaru, Baccaruda and Mugs are the ones in spokane that I can think of right now, but I know there are more. I'm over in ID, right next to Silverwood Theme Park. We have a few others around here too And, wow, you had a 360 wagon? I didn't even know they made those Feel free to ask questions, but please use the search function first, it makes the veterans around here a little less crabby. Twitch
  7. OK, well the torque bind goes away when the FWD fuse is put in, as far as I know, I have yet to drive the car extensively since putting the fuse in. But the vibration remains. I personally have only been able to get it to vibrate while turning once, all the other times it was my sister referring information to me. So it seems to be intermittent. I'm going to be inspecting it in a little more detail when I can get the car. I fear I may need to install a new tranny. Twitch PS: All of the testing I have been doing has been with the FWD Fuse in.
  8. So, my sister just bought a 91 Legacy LS Wagon with a 4EAT and it has torque bind, but we currently have the FWD fuse in place to allow her to run her errands without squeaking the tires around corners. A little history, the tranny fluid was burnt to the point of being turned dark brown when she bought the car, so we changed the fluid and it fixed the hard shifting. The engine runs great, decent power, the tranny shifts nicely, but it vibrates when turning. But only at slow speeds, and at all angles of the wheel. If you power out of it, it goes away. Any ideas? I'm thinking the torque converter could be hanging up and not slipping smoothly or a front diff issue. The CV axles don't click, but I haven't gotten a chance to crawl under the car and fiddle with them to see if there is any play. Twitch
  9. It should be fine for power transfer. I just think you should probably change your tranny fluid rather often and do as the above post mentioned. The torque converter should do just fine for allowing enough slip while still pushing enough power. Twitch
  10. Thanks Rob Twitch PS: Yeah, you posted in the old thread, my bad
  11. Also, I don't wish to pee in the pineapple, but could you guys keep something in mind for me? I'm allergic to many heavy scents (aka soaps, perfumes, lotions, etc), and certain compounds in foods. So I just make a mild request to check for any sulfur compounds in your items before slathering them on, or making sure your food items are sulfate/sulfite free before offering? Since we will be outside I should be ok, and I'm very diligent about it, but I'm severely allergic and a trip to a hospital for an asthma attack will kinda kill the atmosphere... Thanks for your consideration... Twitch
  12. Good! I hope you can make it, even if its only for a day or two. I'm hopefully gonna be there Friday till Monday. Twitch
  13. Spin the input shaft, and count the number of times the diff stubs spins per spin, or visa versa, and count the number of spins it takes to spin the input shaft. Twitch PS: I may have that backwards...
  14. You could go for a full STi swap from a GC8 (search it if you don't know what that is) from Japan or Australia. But its gonna be ridiculously expensive and difficult as you will have to switch it over from Right Hand Drive to Left Hand Drive. Twitch
  15. I hope you kept some of those wheels, esp the 4 lug variety... And yes, subarus are an obsession, just ask Turbone, or TheBeastIDrive, me, or just about any other member who has been on here more than a year or so. Twitch PS: I've only been addicted for a few years and I already have 5
  16. Damn dude, that sucks. As was said by others, never done it to myself, but it had to hurt. Gotten a concussion and that sucks enough, but never hard enough to lose consciousness... Twitch PS: Just be glad it wasn't carb cleaner induced
  17. That looks pretty good. And yeah, it does look like the scoop belongs in front of a sun roof as a deflector hahaha Twitch
  18. And the guy didn't look at you real funny when you asked to take pix of it? Most people around here look at me funny when I ask them if I can take a picture of their old Subaru... Twitch
  19. No auto's what so ever will have a dual range. Subaru never made an auto with dual range as far as I know. Some turbo's came with d/r, but not very many, and they're not the best for off roading anyway. Twitch
  20. Well, IMO, you should look for an 80-84 wagon. They came with the much more reliable EA81 and are also much lighter. They are definitely more difficult to find, but are a lot more upgrade happy, for off-roading that is. Also, the auto's only came with a single range, so a manual will be your only choice for a dual range. And as for the 88 turbo wagon with an auto, I say run like the wind unless you want to have to completely rebuild the engine and do a lot of maintenance right away. Twitch
  21. Hey, its easy.

  22. Hey, I just noticed, you have a "swoosh" logo on the side of your car, on the trim. That's so cool... We never got anything like that over here in the states. Twitch
  23. I'm not sure what seller GD uses, but I just got a kit for my 90' lego from mizumi auto for that exact price. With all the aforementioned components too. It seemed to be of good quality. Twitch
  24. Rob's? You mean Bill's... Right? And yeah, that halon would do you good. Twitch
