  1. I always knew this place was a family affair Welcome to the fold and hope you find what you need here. And listen to your dad, he's pretty smart about these cars. Twitch PS: I know you didn't want to hear that, but hey, he's helped me out on stuff.
  2. Were you rough on second gear? Did you or a previous owner do a lot of "speed shifting"? Chances are you just grenaded the gears and need to either rebuild it, or get a new one. And you probably just need to get a new tranny. For the cost of pulling the tranny and rebuilding it, you could swap in a good used one for less. You can use almost any legacy or impreza 5 speed as long as your rear diff ratio matches your front or you get a matching rear diff with the new tranny. I believe you will either have a 4.111 or a 3.9 diff ratio. Also, the 5 speeds rarely go bad, so you will have little to worry about with your new transmission. Twitch
  3. What he said ^^^^ Also, if you have a small impact wrench, that makes pulling fenders off and putting them back on a LOT easier. I'm pretty sure the fender bolts are either 12 or 14mm. I'm not sure, but does your turn signal clip or screw to your fender? If so, obviously you'll need to remove that to swap fenders. Just be careful about the rusty bolts and you should be ok. Twitch
  4. I'm pretty sure its the aerodynamics of the car, and also the fuel you're putting in. In my experience with my BRAT, I get 2-3 mpg better with the mid grade than I do with the low grade stuff. Also, my mpg goes up when I use the 10% ethanol stuff too (don't ask me why but it just does) You may consider running a can of seafoam through your gas tank, just in case your carb or fuel lines need to be cleaned out. Twitch
  5. Hey, do you check the group section very often?

    Hmmmmmmmmm?????

You should, me and Txakura are getting lonely, lol

  6. Welcome! You'll find this site just as "enchanting" as your hatch And Breeke is slightly off, you can't really do any suspension lifts as your car has such a narrow wheelbase that the angles created will eat axles. And I second the search button comment. Use it often and you won't have nearly as many people jumping down your throat about your threads. Enjoy the forum and hope to see you around! Twitch
  7. That's a good way to put it. Carbs need lots of attention and you need to have a ton of patience, with a long fuse. Just keep in mind, that with that big of a carb, you'll be seriously fighting flooding the engine and, as was mentioned, transition from idle to throttle may be touchy and difficult to get right. Twitch
  8. Hold on, you want to put the engine from your 88 GL wagon, into a 94 legacy? Ummmm, well, we usually do things the other way around... The EA82 (the GL's engine) would probably be too weak to pull the Legacy around. Not to mention it is usually considered junk by most members on here. Depending on your area you can pick up an EJ22 (the Legacy's engine) for the same price as an EA82. And EJ22's are by far more reliable and produce a heck of a lot more power. I would suggest just saving up for an EJ22 if you are to replace an engine in the Legacy. Or if you are to take the Legacy engine and put it into your GL, then check out the retrofitting section, or for a simple link (click on the white words) Twitch
  9. Go for a junkyard for a TPS, they're a lot cheaper and are usually good. And nice use of the "cup holder" Have you made good use of the "work bench" yet? Twitch
  10. Sop you're the one that got the BRAT bumper out of P&S... And that's categorized as an EA71 part, as most first gen's had EA71's. Twitch PS: I looked at my car today, just to keep it on topic :-p
  11. Ouch. Those EJ25's tend to be a little touchy... And you're on the right track for the lift. Outback struts and king springs and you'll gain an extra 3in? Not too sure, it may vary by vehicle. Twitch
  12. So you're coming to the BRAT meet, BRAT or no BRAT, right?

I hope so, so I can finally meet the only other guy who haunts the group section :)

PS: The "Official Details" are now posted in the group

  13. I like it. I second the motion to call it the Bi-drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter Meet 2010 and also to make Memorial Day Weekend the official weekend this year. It'll screw with the newspapers and anybody who doesn't know the meaning of the acronym. I'm right behind you. Twitch
  14. Who needs a porta jon? We've got BRAT's, we could take turns running people up to the can. Who needs seatbelts anyway... And memorial day weekend is tough for me because my work is busiest during that time, but if I claim it off now, the rest of the crew can whine and moan all they want. So can we officially have the date memorial day weekend? If so, I'm gonna request the days off tomorrow. And I personally like "roughing it." I'll drag my tent along and maybe a friend or two (Jaren, you listening?) and by then I'll have it repaired/upgraded and the rear seats installed. Twitch
  15. I'm pretty sure its only 3 bolts. They may have split up a set or sold you a kit that had a wrong or bad gasket on one side, and just left the extra grommets in. You should only really need to remove the air cleaner to get access to it, but my experience is only really with NA models. Then its just the 3 bolts in the center and replace the gaskets and the grommets and put it back together the way you got it apart. Twitch
  16. Yes. And if you don't want it I'm sure another member would be willing to take it off your hands. Twitch
  17. Well you DID have a beautiful BRAT, but decided to sell it to some renob... JK So far we have Winegars Ice Cream for the meet and eat on Sat, then Reecers Creek for the camping/wheeling area Sat-Sun, Sun have a canyon run and leave that night or, have some more fun and take off Monday. That sounds good to me. Thus far the plans are available to adjustment as necessary, and we still are missing our date. I like memorial day weekend, but a lot of people are busy that weekend. We have a few months to decide, but time flies... Twitch
  18. Well, I flushed my engine and rad, and basically all I did was spray vinegar water into both the block and the rad, then let it sit while I went and got the hose. Flushed it out with the hose, spraying in from the top of the block, and also from the rad cap and the upper rad outlet. Cleaned her out gooooood. Got some more rust colored water out and for a while my car smelled like apple cider vinegar. At least until I put the anti freeze in that is... Twitch
  19. Parts hmmmmmmm?

    What kind of parts?

Big parts, little parts, parts that nobody should know about?

  20. Good for you man! I hope this is the last problem you have for a loooong time. Twitch
  21. Well, it all went together nicely and I got it timed on the first try And what I believe had happened was the bearings failed soon after I redid the heads and the outer race just rode on the inner race until it wore to the point the belt lost tension and the bearing started to make the belt bind against itself. I'll take pix of the back of the belt. Its burnt, cracked and bubbled. So the belt would've failed within, probably another 10k if not 5k. Twitch
  22. These came off Xandra. and her engine had around 250k, unless they were replaced with the engine swap that was performed at 90k for the engine, which I seriously doubt. I didn't even replace them when I redid the top end of the engine. And a little Bio on Xandra, she's a 90 body with a 91 engine and a 94 tranny. That practically happened to Zeh Vagon, but it only ate a few teeth off. Twitch
  23. WOO!

    Burning the midnight oil, eh?

    Me too, can't sleep.

    What's your excuse?

    PS: How's Rich doing?

  24. Which absolutely SUCKS! If Subaru brought back the D/R in the EJ trannies I would probably wet myself. I can't believe we are actually getting the Diesel. If those are as easy to swap into the old gens as the EJ gas engines, then SIGN ME UP! I would be running on french fry grease and happiness. Twitch
  25. Check for vacuum leaks, these little engines are very vacuum dependent. A quick check over the engine bay while its running will tell you if you have a leak, it'll be given away by a tell tale whistle or hiss. Also perform a full tune up, plugs, wires, and air filter. That may be causing your problem. Twitch
