My car is ruined
Twitch de la Brat replied to The Dude Abides's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Poor car, it can't roar at other people anymore... I know that my BRAT feels the same way. Unfortunately the wheel bearing that took the place of the exhaust noise gave up as well, so its currently without a roar Hope your car gets its roar back (or maybe not) Twitch -
Will do, most likely just blow water through with the hose, forward and back. Maybe run some vinegar or some acidic formula through it as well, to eliminate any surface rust. Then some baking soda to see a fountain come out of my engine Twitch PS: Might actually do the baking soda with vinegar as it may blast out anything the water misses.

I replaced all my timing components on Xandra, and I timed her in one try Extremely proud of myself for having only timed her once before. Also discovered a bunch of rust inside the hoses :-\ So tomorrow I'm gonna flush the block and the rad to make sure there's nothing that could block flow and hopefully clean up any deposits. Just wanted to share what happens to your timing bearings when they fail This is the new bearing... This is the old bearing And this is what I looked like when I saw the bearing More pictures for you picture hounds And sorry for the fuzzyness of the pictars. The camera was too complicated for me to get all the settings right before each picture Twitch

Well, I wasn't referring to racing I was thinking of a Production vehicle that had an FF or GSR body, but with modern components underneath. So basically cram the underpinnings of a WRX into an FF and add an EJ18 engine and a 6 speed and you have what I was thinking of. It has a classic look to it and handles like rally car Twitch

Bit of a sube newb...
Twitch de la Brat replied to KiowaEagle's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Good to have you! Sounds like you've already got the bug. Too bad on the totaling of the old suby, but hopefully the new suby is even better! Twitch -
Heh heh, you've never been to E-burg have you? I'm not meaning to cause offense, but you're probably more like 11 hours from Ellensburg. I live about 5 hours away from Butte, and you look to be another hour or more beyond that. Last time I went to Ellensburg it was about a 4 hour drive, and that was doing 75-80 mph the whole way. So overall with the limitations of your car accounted for, you've got about a 11-12 hour drive, with minimal stopping. But we'd still love to see you there I'd like to meet another sube nut from over here. Oh, and I would greatly enjoy a good camping spot with a nice fire and some weenies and marshmallows to cook over it. I'll bring the marshmallows! Or at least what's left of the bag when I get there Twitch

I broke it Driver's side rear wheel bearing let go completely and I had to limp it to work riding on the drum brake No better time to upgrade to rear discs, I guess :-\ Now I get to fix Xandra ASAP so that I can drive for work. And I get to wait until I can afford a set of rear hubs from P&S. If they even have a turbo car in there. Twitch

Sweet setup Brian, mind if I come over and use it? How thick of tubing are you bending with that setup? And a better question, will it do 2" exhaust pipe? Twitch

Well, even if you don't get it done, I'm sure a member will gladly drag you along or maybe even tow your BRAT We'll help you get there. And Indrid, I like your idea. I didn't see anything like you mentioned when I was down there, but they do have, I believe, "The Gorge" nearby, but its a national venue and may need extra funds and specific planning to get into. And as for oddball, unique stuff, there is a Cle Ellum Telephone museum I'm not sure if its in E-burg or not, they didn't say, but here's the link. Anywho, just throwing out ideas. Twitch

I agree Ed, thank you Terrh, for not just junking it and alowing for those of us who love them to give them the love and attention they deserve. Oh, and if you keep it, they make amazing snow blasters. Twitch

The tranny is a Legacy 4EAT, the 3AT's have a different shifter, and it didn't have an adapter plate between the engine and the tranny. I'm not sure what the axles are from, but they would have to be modified axles and are more than likely EA82 axles and hubs, because as far as I know EA82 and EJ are the only one's I know of that are 25 spline. Unless somebody custom made axles with components from all of the above. And AFAIK, EJ autos are only 25 spline and I pretty sure you can't swap diff stubs on autos. Anyway, rant over, and it was a pretty cool vid. Twitch

Show off your roos Mileage!
Twitch de la Brat replied to beataru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have 290K+ on Xandra (1990 Legacy) replaced the engine with a 91' with 90k on it at 130K, and then they rebuilt the auto tranny at 150k, then at 280k I rebuilt the top end of the engine, at 281K I replaced the dead 4EAT with a decent 94' 5sp and have been abu- I mean driving it since. Just had a timing idler fail cuz I was a der-de-der and didn't replace them when I did the top end of the engine. So $100 later and I got a kit to do all that. 1985 BRAT with 260K, original engine, just got sick of the crappy 4sp d/r linkage and just upgraded to a 5sp d/r out of an 85' wagon So the BRAT is still all one year. 81 Brat GL clutch cable.
Twitch de la Brat replied to Don_Quixpunch's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Ask for one from an EA81 car. It can't be too different, and if the ends don't match, just adapt it to fit the old ends. Twitch
