  1. Figured I'd bump this up for those doing the swap, as am I. Thanks for finding that Pooparu Twitch
  2. Make sure you really want one and are willing to take care of it, other wise you'll have us (the enthusiasts) after your hide. Believe me, unless you're willing to hunt for parts and do a looooot of research don't bother. Owning any Subaru older than the 90's is an adventure in itself. Be ready to get a lot of wrong parts, a lot of headaches and do a lot of modding. Unless you're dedicated to it, you shouldn't even bother. Twitch PS: They are rather rare as well
  3. I figured I could do that, but I wanted to keep as many vibration dampening materials as possible. If I need to, I'll just do that, but I just wanted to see if anyone had done it. And to see if cutting that box will destabilize anything. Twitch
  4. First oil change on the BRAT and I'm thinking I'm cool, getting everything done right and proper, screw the plug back in, put the filter on, back it out of the garage and I see a stream of oil following me down the driveway. Crossthreaded the oil filter Another... I was swapping out my transmission in my lego and forgot to check the diffs Well, I figured my manual had a 3.9 and the auto that I was junking was a 4.111 I go through the process of dropping both diffs and ripping part of the rear suspension apart and lo-and-behold, they're the same ratio More carnage! I was cleaning my carb after it decided to stick open at WOT the night before (that was a fun experience) and was shooting carb cleaner on all the linkages and the outside of the carb in general. I'm almost done when I look down to see what's left and shoot the cleaner into what I think is a passage way. Nope, it was just a pefectly shaped divot that redirected the carb cleaner straight into my eye. 2 minutes of near screaming and lots of water/saline solution later, I was able to see out of the other eye Best? Ummmm, so far, Rusty, Bill's little red first gen BRAT. Bought him cheap non-running, got him going with just a fuel pump and some fresh gas. He even ran on the old crap that was in the tank for at least 6 years Maybe not the most glorious, but I proud of being able to help rescue an injured suby from the crusher. Twitch
  5. Ok, before I get the "search is your friend" schpeil, I searched, posted in a thread, and got no answers. So I'm asking in my own thread. Is it possible to mount an EA82 tranny crossmember with the bolts located inside the radius rod mount "boxes". And if I cut these, will it destabilize my suspension? If I cut them, then reinforce them, will my suspension be ok? And, does anybody know if putting the EA82 crossmember in will cause the engine and tranny to sit at funky angles? Twitch
  6. Ok, I know I'm being impatient, but time is of the essence. I searched and found a thread talking about what I was looking for, but it has no answer, so I'm asking again. Is it possible to mount the EA82 X-member on the bolt shown in ^^^ pic. And if cutting that bracket will destabilize my suspension. And I forgot to mention on above pic that, that is the driver's side bracket. Twitch
  7. And again, I highly recommend checking your ignition wires. They're under the steering column, behind the trim panel. I believe its 3(?) screws and the panel's off and it should be a brown bundle of wires, but it may be a different color being a different year. It takes maybe 10 min, and if they are cooked, then you saved yourself a bunch of hassle, if they aren't you just found a bunch of wires Twitch
  8. But that's if the 5mt is still available... I suspect we will have a 6mt's to play around with soon enough Twitch
  9. Ya'll were right. I went back and it was just extreme shifter slop. Some dork had switched the shifter knobs Oh well, I just let it be, it was a 4sp s/r with the old style 4wd lever. Twitch
  10. I'm with you there. If I bust a lens on my BRAT, I just go buy a new one The lego is a different story with those stupid plastic lenses... Twitch
  11. Hey, he sounds a lot like me Yeah, you'll love it on here, but you better get your boy a login too so he can ask questions too! Twitch PS: BRAT's are a ton of fun. (no pun intended)
  12. I have the same question. I've been looking at this and figuring out how I can mount up the EA82 tranny. My EA81 tranny mounts are shot but the EA82 ones are still good. I have the EA82 crossmember to work with as well. So, after looking at the underside of the car for a while, I discovered that there are bolts right behind the radius rod mounts. Pic here, sorry about the crappy quality, I was laying under a car So, would it be feasible to cut slots in the bracket and mount the EA82 crossmember on those 2 bolts? Twitch PS: I want to bash tranny tunnel as little as possible, if at all.
  13. I completely removed my transmission from my BRAT and started the 5sp swap. Got the EA82 clutch and flywheel and got the WRONG driveshaft It was too short. GAHHHHH!!! Twitch
  14. Well, the sedan's are rather rare in the RX flavor. I don't ever remember seeing an RX sedan in my lifetime... But, as was stated before me, make sure your cooling system is in top notch shape and don't do a lot of upgrading to the stock engine. I personally would keep it stock and use it as show car, considering how nice it is. Twitch
  15. You do realize that those are rare aftermarkets, right? http://www.indysworld.com/80s/general/wheels/wheels.html About halfway down the page and you'll find this: I wouldn't do anything to those wheels other than restore them. Twitch
  16. I bet they gripped like a cat on a couch. How did you make those? Did you just run screws through a standard tire? Or some special studding? Twitch
  17. I want that tire... I'm betting that tire is for winter rally-X Twitch
  18. I spy with my little eye... Ouch! At least it was the windshield and not the body or some of the ground effects. Twitch
  19. I'm pretty sure its 2 quarts and I used 80w-90 hypoid gear oil. (Or does hypoid even have ratings ) It was cheaper than the regula lucas 75w-90, so I was happy to buy it. Plus the napa guy (long time suby owner) said that hypoid was less likely to allow the gears to eat each other. Twitch
  20. Is it just me or do you have an affinity for blue mica? I woulda' kept the 06. I think it looks better Twitch
  21. Yeah, I've had to do with a floor jack. As was mentioned by Speedwagon, just heft the front onto the X-member and lift the back with a floor jack. Make sure the jack is securely wedged or hooked on something to keep it or the tranny from sliding backward. It also helps if you have the tranny mounting plate attached so all you have to do is bolt it up to keep it from falling on your head. Then the maneuvering can be done after the X-member is attached. Twitch
  22. Lol, well I can't say much for the maxima alt, but the GM 100a is a little more work, but works great for me. Never have anything under 13 volts except in extreme circumstances (aka all off road lights turned on+fans+radio). And the wiring under your dash will probably smoke in a fairly quick fashion if you have any points of high resistance. I had that issue and cooked my ignition wires (they were improperly spliced together). Twitch PS: I wanna see GD's face when I show him the wiring in my BRAT too
  23. Just give it a few pumps from the gas pedal and crank her till she starts or you kill the battery. BTW, it wasn't my BRAT that you saw, but I live out here by CDA. If you're in town PM me and lets try to get a meet together Twitch
  24. Kicking it back out there for the newbies! And for those of you who have forgotten about it!!! So, CHECK out the groups, ya'll... Twitch
  25. If you want REAL torque, go with an EG33 That sucker will tear your car in half! Twitch
