  1. What he said ^^^ Make it nice, but not too nice so that duct tape isn't allowed My BRAT is a total piece of crap compared to most vehicles I ride in, but its most relaxing for me, cuz if anything breaks, I can fix it, and I know the car inside and out. I guess its just a security blanket... Twitch
  2. Bought a timing kit from these guys on Ebay and it just got here. All the parts are there and plus it seems he added some extra hardware. Have yet to install it, but it came with all the pulleys, a water pump, and a timing belt And it was cheaper than other competing sellers. I'll update when I get it put in and have the car running. Twitch
  3. That sounds similar to a system I heard about on old American cars. The essentially had a secondary cable on the throttle shaft that was connected to a slider either on the dash or on the steering column. All they would do is find the throttle position that would maintain the speed they wanted and set the lever to that. If you wanted you could apply that sort of system to your GL. Just get a spare cable and some sort of mechanism to adjust it by and you're good to go. Twitch
  4. Here's the specs for the ATV version that will hold up to an EA81. http://www.litefootatv.com/html/litefoot_utility_rated.htm They're technically not ATV tracks, but UTV tracks. And if you question whether or not they can handle the abuse, check out the video of Ken Block with a bigger set on his rally car. These are essentially tank tracks, but for vehicles. Twitch
  5. Exactly. Screw paying $50+ for a lift ticket when you can drive yourself to the top and have some "non-skier" drive it down for you Twitch PS: I have had mental images of my BRAT blasting up Schweitzer Mountain for a loooooong time. PPS: And Bill, I'm sure in all that soft, farm field dirt, they would do magnificently
  6. I figure this should be bumped up. Any new news from summit? Also, does anybody know of any commercially available 12mm drill bits :-p Twitch
  7. Good Job at searching. Well, this thread died off, but a new prospect was brought up. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=102771 Thank you Quidam. They're ATV rims, but are rated for about a 1000lbs a piece, so they could handle a Suby with all the necessary gear. Hope it helps Twitch
  8. That's an EJ drivetrain. Its got what looks like an EJ25 or EJ20 on the front with a 4EAT right behind it. And I'm pretty sure he had open all the way around... Twitch
  9. We're still figuring that out. We've got people doing research on where the best places are in E-burg. Twitch
  10. I think you should look up Suberdave and Numchux. They are good at the hi-po modding Twitch
  11. Well, I didn't get it done before work, but got it done after. Its just getting transferred back onto the insurance and its ready to drive. I gotta fab up a better 4wd engagement system, but for now its bound together by friction Two of my exhaust studs stripped So I get to drill them out bigger and tap them. So, even though its driveable its not "technically" street legal. Grrrrrrr... Oh well, IT'S ALIVE (again) So I get to drive my baby, even though he's trying to DEAFEN me... Twitch PS: And I discovered you CAN drive with you exhaust sitting on your rear axle , I was wondering what that excess rattling was...
  12. Well, we could play off the Hatch Patrol, and call it the BRAT Brigade. The BRAT Pack, EA Invasion, The BRATastic Subaru Meet, The Bi-Drive Recreational All-Terrain Transporter Meet Twitch
  13. I bought a custom one-piece drive shaft for my BRAT Now I'm putting it back together with the "new" 85' 5sp d/r and finally get to drive it with all the gears! Hopefully I'll get it done tomorrow before work. Just taking a break before finishing putting the axles back in and putting the drive shaft in. WOO HOO!!!! Twitch
  14. Well, I replaced the wires and the plugs when I rebuilt the heads. But I discovered my problem. My smooth idler pulley had failed sometime ago, but the belt was still slipping past it, allowing the car to run. Well, that pulley finally completely self destructed and there went my timing :-\ Thankfully my engine is non-interference, so it was ok, but I got stranded at the local napa, figures right? Purchased a timing kit + water pump for only $117! I learned my lesson about replacing the timing pulleys... Thank goodness my BRAT doesn't have those... Twitch PS: I found a BRAT tail light for less than $20 on ebay x2
  15. if you don't want it I'll take it And kittens are never a pain. Honest! :-p And you could never get rid of such an adorable little kitty... Twitch
  16. That would be awesome. I would definitely like it if we could find a campground, cuz I don't want to have to drive 8 hours in a day just to visit sube nuts for only a few hours. Twitch
  17. I've been having some odd symptoms with Xandra. Her specs are 90 body legacy 293k miles, 91 engine with 250k with about 10k on a full top end rebuild, and a 94 5sp with about 250k torturous miles on it. She seems to be running rich and stumbling when cold. And I've been getting an occasional CEL. I chalked this up to a bad O2 sensor, but last night, she died when I pushed in the clutch pedal. And I'm sure this can't be from just a bad O2 sensor. I've had no problems other than the rich running and stumble. Any ideas? Twitch
  18. W00T!!! Lets do it! Now, we need to get somebody to help us find a place to hold it and to camp overnight, if necessary, Bill... Or Robbie I would but my work schedule is rather tight right now, and my BRAT is awaiting a new drive shaft Not to mention E-burg is over 4 hours away from me. Twitch
  19. Sweet score man. And I find it hilarious that the kitten managed to get into every shot And it looks adorable too Twitch
  20. I was rather disgusted when that happened too 3eyedwagon, but I'm happy he's in a car he likes again. And as for Block getting in with Ford, I expect him to get trampled until he gets his WRC legs under him. And I will be watching the whole time Oh, and I'm no Ford fan, but if they get support from Cosworth I suspect he will do very well car-wise. Twitch
  21. If you find an RX tranny or an XT6 tranny. They both came in AWD with a center diff lock switch. The RX has a dual range option, but they are pretty rare. The XT6 was only offered single range as far as I know. But, you gotta match up your diffs or you'll fry your driveline. Those are the easy swaps. You could put an EJ tranny in but that would be best had with an EJ engine. Most EJ manuals have a viscous center diff. It requires the XT6 tranny crossmember to mount up without too many modifications. It would also require a custom driveshaft to be built and custom axles. Unless you did a 5 lug swap. That's my understanding of it all. Hopefully someone will chime in with more knowledge than me. Twitch
  22. Well, you're best off just building your own, or paying somebody to custom build one. I'm not sure where Wilmington is, but look up some members around your area and they might be able to help you out. Twitch
  23. I would check the temp sending unit. It may not be getting the proper voltage or isn't reading the right resistance. Also check the thermo switch for the fans, if it uses one... Twitch
