OK, 4WD VS AWD 4WD in most vehicle applications is RWD when not in 4WD (Subaru is the exception to the rule). 4WD has a transfer case that locks the front and rear driveshafts together so that they must spin at the same speed. Most older 4WD vehicles have open differentials 4WD's most generally have solid axles. AWD usually is a limited slip differential or some sort of clutch pack controlling the front to rear power transfer. Older AWD systems used open differentials in the front and back but newer systems use complicated limited slip differentials and clutch packages. Or just watch that video :-p Twitch PS: FWD modified AWD systems are the most common in auto manufacturers. Subaru is the Oddball in this case.

Porsche 944
Twitch de la Brat replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Non Soob Cars and Bikes Discussion
Weeeell, unfortunately I was unable to purchase it But I hope to find another to buy. And actually the 944 was not based on the 924, but on its own platform. The 944 is a true Porsche platform, not a rebadge by any stretch of the imagination. Hence why parts are FREAKING expensive. New radiator $600+!!! Sorry for the rant, but I have a Porsche Mechanic as a friend Twitch PS: I got an 83 GL Wagon instead -

Welcome to the bored *ahem* I mean board! Sounds like you're a lot like everybody else here. Since you're in the western half of the US, I would talk to Scott In Bellingham (SJR) Or TheBeastIDrive (Bill Omlin aka BOSS) about that lift you're looking at. They both produce good quality lifts. If you have any Q's feel free to post in Old Gen! Twitch -

+1 And don't list it with less than 5,000 for a reserve. I couldn't see this being worth any less than that. Beautiful work man, just too bad that you won't be keeping her. I would've loved to see that in at least one WCSS. I bet you woulda whipped the first gen BRAT Category. Twitch -

THANK YOU forbeing a sleeper riceburner. I was expecting some gawd awful wing, foot and a half wide tires with an inch of sidewall, a body kit practically scraping the ground, and the paint job to be louder than the exhaust. But staying true to my Subaru blue, AWD>FF ALWAYS. Sorry, but being a racer you can probably understand this equation. And again, thank you for being a sleeper and not hanging that FMIC out in front of your bumper. I like the way your car looks, for a hoonduhh, *ahem* Honda. And I guess some of the disliking of Honda is because of the INSANE aftermarket support that they got in the early 90's and the fact subaru had been Hi-Po for about a decade before Honda, with very, very little aftermarket support. So I think a lot of the Honda/Subaru distrust comes from jealousy (and the fact that most honda tuners are total pricks) Twitch PS: Good job on cleaning up your car before the photo shoot, but you forgot to hide the sponge in the first picture We subaru people can understand messy concrete, but the sponge just gives it away. I like to assume everbody else is as messy as me when it comes to cars -
They have dimpled sheets that you can cut to size and glue down to your car. I'm not sure what the website is, but I saw the results on a scion xb and they looked pretty good. They're basically just sheets of plastic that are dimpled like a golf ball. I'm pretty sure you can order different colors and the like. I would search "dimpled car" or something like that (I would search it right now but my phone can't handle multiple windows) But it is a real product and has shown an increase in fuel economy (but no top speed numbers ) Twitch

Not to hijack or anythhing, but holy cow! How did you go from a 07 toaster to a 92 loyale? I'm betting the loyale cost about one or two car payments, but still, sheesh! I'm just glad you dumped the plastic toaster for a steel shoebox :-p. Back of topic, x3, lets see this "track ready" hoonduhh. And then we will compare it to Suberdave's wagon and Rguyver33's BRAT. I say, hoonduhh loses. :-p (You can't tell I'm biased) Twitch -

Duuuuuude... Sweet wheels! Sorry about the whole transmission death thing... You should check out doing a 5sp swap on it, it would make life much easier. If you know how to drive a manual that is... Twitch PS: I'm the first Twitch! :-p -
Yes, the ATF inside the transmission, not the differential. But the front differential may need its fluid changed as well. But the center differential is actually a clutch pack in this case, and the fluid is not separate from the main transmission. The solenoid activates the clutches in the back of the transmission and sends power to the rear wheels, making the car AWD. The solenoid is located in the tail of the transmission housing, and may require the transmission to be pulled to get to, I'm not sure, never done one. But you may just need to change the fluid and you'll be ok. Twitch

That's what they're called! I was trying to remember the cheapo blades I put on my BRAT. Yeah, they come in a yellow package and are silicone rubber. I have yet to have them freeze down to the window and not be broken loose by the wiper motor (and my wiper motor SUCKS) As mentioned by Kwhistle, they smear if there isn't enough water on the window to really wipe off, but my wipers see bugs, dirt, mud, snow, muddy snow, light rain, heavy rain, even pine needles and leaves. And no problem yet. Twitch

Sheesh, you guys are overreacting about a simple EGR problem. I had that happen in my 85 BRAT. Muck in the air cleaner and no where else. Just unplug the largest hose on the driver's side of the air cleaner and see if that fixes the problem. If it does, then just pull the EGR and plug the hole. If not you've got me stumped. And I think I know that BRAT. I believe that BRAT lived in a trailer park near me. I drooled over it for many, many days. Twitch -

ROWR, FFFFFTT!!! FFFFFFTT!! :-p I'm with Kelsey on this one. I got asthma, not by genetics, but by chicken pox And my lungs are EXTREMELY sensitive. But I must give a to Tom for the Primatene inhaler, that is mine as well, as I'm allergic to sulfur (albuteral sulfate). Back on topic, I bet there is a lot more aftermarket support over there for the older subes, than there is here in the US. Can you give us a glimpse of the IDM (Iceland Domestic Market) stuff you got over there? Like engine specs, tranny specs, model years (IE how long was the BRAT available), and good stuff like that Thanks again for giving us a glimpse! Twitch PS ASTHMA SUCKS!!! -

Could it be a bad axle?
Twitch de la Brat replied to Tide13's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It may be a your hub got out of round and is eating your bearings. I would try replacing the hub with a Junkyard replacement. It's a cheaper solution than a new axle and if doesn't work you've got a spare hub to play with! Twitch -

Chuck that 3AT before your engine swap, throw a 5sp d/r in there THEN do your EJ swap. It'll make your life easier Unless you're gonna pull an Rguyver33 on us... Twitch PS: 5sp d/r = 5 speed dual range -
Same either side. Front to back and Turbo to Non-turbo are the only differences. Good luck with the swapping! Twitch

Ok, so if its caught early enough we're ok? The timing belt was done about 17k ago, is that early enough? Or should we be looking for a crank sprocket? (thank you for correcting my terminology) Cuz the local JY has a few second gen lego's sitting around... Should we be buying parts and fixing the car as soon as we get it, or waiting and seeing? Twitch

On the sides of the turn signal lenses there should be two Philips head screws. They are accessible from the front of the car, just remover them, pull the light assembly forward, pop the socket out of it, replace bulb, reinsert the socket, and screw light assembly back down to the bumper. Twitch PS: The turn signals are the amber colored lights on the bottom of the bumper. PPS: Ignore ^^^ I have changed bumpers 3 times on my 90 lego, he's referring to the marker lights.
