  1. So, if this goes, we're looking at the accessory pulley taking out the underlying crank pulley? I went with her to look at the car, and it makes sense because I saw wobble in the pulley while it was running... So could this be an easy fix? As in just picking up an new accessory pulley from a junkyard? Or just tightening the pulley bolt? Twitch
  2. Hyundais are as bad as Kia's, but Kia's are a little better known. And the "Bottom end" is the engine block and associated parts. The "Top end" is the head(s) and included hardware such as the cams. Twitch
  3. Sentances? Really GD? I'm just joshin' ya :-p I say go for it, and EA81's are my preferred engine to work on. They're small, light and simple. Can't get much better than that, unless you wrap a BRAT around it Twitch
  4. So, when were we planning on doing this? Winter works best for me, as already stated, but wassup with y'all? My BRAT has no third gear, but oh well, I can still do 80 in it so highway stuff will be fine :-p So currently all I need to do is insure and license the thing and I'm ready to roll. Twitch
  5. Watch the transmission very carefully... And the ATF is separate from the diff. The diff, I believe, is sealed but you may be able to access it without splitting the transmission case. And the factory brakes are almost never of good quality, so its not surprising that the rotors have scratching. It may not help if the owner is neglectful like most people are :-\ Twitch
  6. I agree with you and disagree with at the same time GD. My parents run cables on their FWD cars for mail delivery and they usually last a few weeks before they self destruct. And these are 50-100 mile routes they run. But I agree with you on the fact that cables aren't really even worth the time to put them on. I know chains will last longer but you are risking, if they do break, of annihilating your fender and wheel wells. Where as cables are less like to cause severe damage as they lack the "Teeth" that chains have. And as for the OP's question, wrap them around one of your spares or jack up the car and put them around a tire and squeeze them down as far as you can and bungee them. Then have a multitude of people yank on them, kick them and apply as much force as humanly possible and see if they come loose at all. If they do loosen, I say don't run them. If they're fine, run'em as long as you feel they're safe and not deteriorating. Twitch
  7. When unbolting my transmission my linkages were 13mm, so you may want to include that in your tool bag. Also throw in a rubber mallet or something to beat on your wrenches with to help break loose those extra stubborn bolts. Twitch
  8. I hate ricers.

There's a punk who drives a purple Honda Prelude that sounds like its having an extreme

Bowel Movement every time he leaves the parking lot.

    My tires are Toyo's.

Came with the car and seem to be the most popular tire for 13" Subarus.

Every other set of rims I've gotten have that tire on them (minus the winter tires).

  9. Oh no... Rob has infected another... :-p I say go for White. White is clean, sleek (esp. if you go with a pearly white), and heat efficient. Not mention your parts car is white as well, so it'll be easier to make the parts you swap blend in. And if you do all the prep yourself (or free labor), you're looking at at least $50 in sanding supplies, plus primer is up to $100 for the whole car, paint can be around $300, throw in an extra $20 for the hardener, then the cost of renting or buying the proper spray head is an almost infinite variable. So you're looking at $500 minimum, and more likely pushing the $1000 mark by the time you're done. Twitch
  10. Basically that's it. I'm not sure, but you may have to pull a stabilizer bar, but that's about it. Break it loose from the engine, pull the driveline (after making sure the tranny is fluid free), unbolt the linkages from the body, and drop the crossmember. Really simple. and if there's any thing in the way, pull it off or maneuver the tranny around it. :edit: And pull the exhaust Y-pipe, as mentioned by GD, I forgot about it. Twitch
  11. You're not going to like my advice... RUN LIKE YOU'RE BEING CHASED BY A MADMAN WITH AN AXE!!! One of my friends has an 05 Rio and she has replaced the transmission already and and its starting to act up again. They are renowned for being absolute garbage. If it has missed any oil changes or and scheduled maintenance, you WILL be replacing things. One of my other friends worked at a KIA dealership, and the mechanics told him to never buy a KIA. They are the ones who told me that replacement is necessary if anything is missed, and they aren't expected to last beyond their 100,000 mile warranty. Twitch
  12. I loved last winter.

My BRAT was a tank with just all seasons/slicks.

I only got stuck screwing around (Figures doesn't it?)

Oh, and a 4 wheel drift through virgin powder is almost orgasmic :P

I usually avoid Washington in the winter because of the magna-chloride they use.

It eats aluminum like a 5 year old and a candy bar.

And it just destroys unprotected sheet metal.

  13. Yeah, we got snow/rain this afternoon, with the same weather that you got =P

Yeah, I've seen the same, people are idiots around here when it rains or snows.

They think the world is coming to an end or they think they can go even faster O_o

Yeah, my 85 BRAT is what we're slowly restoring.

Right now its just a "stop the rust" phase and "keep it driving" phase.

  14. Confirmed. Just bought some a while back for my BRAT. Twitch
  15. I am in agreement with Mugs and Brian. I like the BRAT only idea, it makes the show different. Not to mention, you guys had an RX only show, and those things have to be almost as rare if not even more rare than BRAT's... Twitch PS: and 1st gen and 2nd gen BRAT's are welcome in my eyes
  16. Hey Jerry,

How much is it for an EA81 5sp swap kit? Thanks.

  17. I'm not too sure if his list is completely accurate, but it would be good to take it with you to a junkyard for reference, and to see which models may have an LSD. Twitch
  18. It should be on the back of the diff, and it depends on how deep your pockets are and how diligently you can search junkyards. There may be an Outback out there with what you're looking for, but I'm not sure. Twitch
  19. Aaaaaaand, did you notice the perfect camber? I have done so much research on these things its not even funny. Website, they have adapters that fit a 4x137 #10 lug, so we could drill them out to fit onto our old Subes lug pattern, we just need the ATV version, which is capable of holding up to 3500 lbs. If you want to know more you gotta contact a rep, and these tracks run anywhere from $4k to $7k. Twitch
  20. What is that supposed to mean? Did you reply to the wrong thread or something? I agree with the CHTS being the problem, it makes sense as it seems like a air/fuel ratio problem. Twitch
  21. I have lusted after these tracks for a loooooong time... They're called mattracks if you're wondering Nipper. Twitch
  22. If you can't tell, he likes black cars And as for MO'ing your car, well, you can mod honda stuff to fit (idk what) but it'll make your car ride like it has the body welded straight to the axles if you do it wrong. You can put shocks from a car that is lighter than yours on there ie, sedan shocks or if you can make them fit, hatchback shocks as they will lower it, but will increase sag as they weren't designed to handle such a heavy car. Twitch
  23. Heh heh heh, so I'm not the only one taking forever to work on his cars... But it'd be cool to meet you westcoaster's finally. Twitch PS: When do we all think we could coordinate our rigs running all at the same time?
  24. I like the middle of the winter. Lower likelihood of me having any asthma issues. And snow is somewhat, well hard to come by in Ellensburg. So if we could figure out some sort of, like, ice rink or something if we have it in the middle of the winter. If we have it in the spring, mud should be abundant. But my allergies don't like the fertilizers used by most wheat farmers (sulfates) Twitch
