Where To Buy Lifting Chain For Engine Swap?
Twitch de la Brat replied to pearlm30's topic in Shop Talk
I just lifted a 2.2 with a nylon tow rope. Worked just fine. And use manpower to level it out. That's all that I did. And you can knot a tow rope Twitch -
I would be wary of it as he mentions that it works for carbureted as well as Fuel Injection. I believe you need only 3 to 5 psi for a carb, but something more in the range of 7-12 psi for spfi or mpfi. I got a fuel pump from csk/Orielly's for $55 for a carbed EA71. If you check on their site they could have what you're looking for for a similar price. http://shop.oreillys.com I haven't tried napa, but I would check there as well. As well as autozone, advance auto, carquest and pep boys. If you search and put in the research you could easily find what you're looking for at a decent price And no, I do not believe that there is any in-tank filtration, it requires an external filter that most likely sits directly before the fuel pump. The pump may come with a filter, so don't buy one until you get the pump. Twitch

Nope, just property loss. They originally valued the car at less than $500 I didn't have any medical reimbursement. Twitch

STP oil filters...
Twitch de la Brat replied to mudduck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
As long as you use conklin right? JK I've heard about frantz filters but never tried them. Couldn't ever find'em! :-p Twitch -
Donlt take it!!! I got around $2100 for mine, with by far worse rust than yours. You could easily get $3k for yours. Don't let'm yank you around. Twitch

STP oil filters...
Twitch de la Brat replied to mudduck's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
From my experience, stp is just rebranded FRAM. I like Bosch, or WIX, as mentioned. For cars I'm trying to turn over, FRAM, most people don't know the diff, and they work for a short period of time. If I'm keeping the car for a long time, I use Bosch, K&N or WIX. Twitch -
Auto Or Manual? Auto, be wary of, manual should be no problem. And I believe it will be AWD, not 4WD. Check to see if it has electronic ignition or a disty. Check the cleanliness of the engine bay, if its spotless, be worried. Check for repair receipts, or cleaning receipts, maybe insurance papers in the glove box. Ummmm... lots more but I can't think of them right now :-p Twitch

I'm tearing apart my 94 lego, and I have come upon an issue. The air bag control unit sits in a really bad spot, and I need to unplug it and remove it. Are there any precautions I need to take before removing it? Will it set itself off if I unplug the connectors in the wrong order? What size it the security torx head that I need so as to remove the bolts holding the unit down? Anything else I need to know? Twitch

LED Replacement Bulb Sources?
Twitch de la Brat replied to casm's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is your car a 3 door coupe, or a hatch? If its a coupe there very well may be some significant differences. If its a Hatch, then it should match up almost to the "T". Twitch PS that link provided in post #4 has a good selection of LED's, and decent prices. It may very well be the source we're looking for! -

Bouncy steering column
Twitch de la Brat replied to presslab's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is it an EA81 or EA82? My BRAT's steering column has always been secure, so you may have something broken or loose, if its an EA81. But as for my 89 EA82 wagon, it wiggles and moves with pressure, both side to side and up and down. I have the tilt (doesn't work) and power steering. Twitch -
Potential head gasket problem?
Twitch de la Brat replied to Fox's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would check into your nearest local automotive parts supplier for pricing or your nearest junkyard for a radiator. And that sucks hardcore that that happened to you. Hope it all goes back together fine! Twitch -
Ideas for unusual mods
Twitch de la Brat replied to casm's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
As was already mentioned 12v cooler, air compressor, or maybe an Xbox... Yes, you can run a power inverter to run a TV and a game console in your trunk! Outdoor Wii anyone? Twitch -
1989 coupe to Brat project
Twitch de la Brat replied to subaruguru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, I don't have any pix but somebody around here (North ID) made one. Idk if they're a member, I wasn't when I saw it. It appeared that they took and stripped the interior from behind the rear seats back and welded the lower part of the hatch. Then cut it off all the way around at the level of the bottom of the rear window up to the seats. Finally they welded a sheet of steel directly behind the seats. Unfortunately it was squared off like a standard pickup, not sloped like a BRAT. :-\ Twitch -
1989 coupe to Brat project
Twitch de la Brat replied to subaruguru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, I prefer the quads, they look more rugged. I think the single lens looks too generic. Plus, the quads can be separately aimed, so you can set your low beams to aim below the fog line, but have the high beams aimed directly out in front of you. Also, if you crack a lense, you don't have to go to the junkyard to get a new one. Back on topic, if I welded that it would as beautiful as a pine beetle ridden tree with a knot running throught the middle of it, aka, Horrible!!! :-\ So are you putting anything in like those sweet nissan windows? Or are you just going to have the standard plate windows? Twitch -

A testament to Subaru ruggedness
Twitch de la Brat replied to The Beast I Drive's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hell Yeah!!! And GD, my BRAT has run over 1500 miles with 0 psi reading on the dash. But then again my Oil pressure sending unit has taken quite a beating... Hehehe, it goes through a quart a month Twitch -
Worthless Piece Of %@%#$%@!!!
Twitch de la Brat replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, round 3 and 4 commenced over saturday, sunday and monday. Round three with this POS was when a timing belt pulley seized WHILE I was on a delivery! Thankfully my parents were nearby with spare cars to help me get to the delivery and get the nightwagon home. My dad was abe to get new timing belts (THANK YOU!!!) and my69opelgt and few other friends helped me put them in and time the thing so that I was able to go visit my bro and sis in law! Well, after getting about 300 miles, I staerted feeling a funky vibration in the front end. I pulled off and my passenger side cv boot self destructed So I made it to missoula, got the boot, but had to press on to my in-laws house because I didn't have the time nor the place to fix it and it was raining fairly heavily. I made it here, but now, the whole front end vibrates when accelerating, starting at 25 mph. So I'm debating pulling the axle and leaving it in rwd until I can get back home, or pulling the axle, installing the new boot and reinstalling the axle so as to drive it normally for as long as the axle holds out(its life is very much shortened) Any suggestions? Twitch PS: I only have a day and a half to get this done -
Losing a fuse?
Twitch de la Brat replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I wired my halogen fogs into my rear defrost circuit (Cuz I didn't need it!) via the fuse box. They are getting good connection and I didn't splice any wires, I just made a plug to go into the battery side of the fuse block. And I believe the problem is from excessive load, rather than a random wire shorting out, cuz it does it only when I add a load, such as my fog lights or I turn on my radiator fan. I'm certainly leaning toward my ignition switch or the wiring beyond the ignition switch. And since it is aluminum wiring, it expands a fair amount as it gets hot, so I may have a wire that the insulation came off and it just expands enough to get within arcing distance of a ground, so while its still hot, it grounds out, but when it cools, it breaks connection and it fine again. Just my theory. Twitch
