  1. That sounds a lot like my car... It would screech around corners every one in a while. It doesn't do that anymore though... My mom deciced she liked driving herself around better. :-p On the serious side, it might be a driveshaft, or a U joint. It also may be the alignment. Or you may have a bad axle that's making noise. And then again it could just be the typical urabuS rattle. Twitch
  2. Is it feasable to put an EA 5 speed D/R into a lego, without too many major mods? My lego tranny is shot and I wouldn't mind having a D/R in it. Any thoughts, ideas, shaking of the head? Twitch
  3. True, but strangely my parents agree with her, I happen to live under their roof :-\ So I'm just using her as an excuse! They would all kill me if I started to tear into my lego right now, unless it was to part it out. Twitch
  4. Awww Bill, that's so sweet... Now you are really making me want to lift me lego... But the gf says no more projects :-\ I wonder how I can hide this one from her Twitch
  5. Try driving 30 mph or faster and after about 10-15 seconds at speed, try pushing the lever down, and keep applying pressure as you drive until it pops into 2wd. If it doesn't, I would check all of your linkages. You may have something getting in the way. Twitch
  6. How about the "Anti-jeep trust?" With the theme song, "anything Jeeps can do we can do better..." Or the "four banger cliff climbers." How about the "unibody smashers"? Or the "underpowered Jeep eaters?" Or "WTF was that? team" Granny car off roaders Tiny trail eaters Lightweight lords of offroad Twitch
  7. If its a spfi (single point fuel injection aka throttle body injected), try cleaning the throttle body. That can get pretty messed up with grease and grime. Also check for vacuum leaks with a spray bottle of soapy water. If you have a leak you may be able to get bubbles to show up on the offending hose. If its mpfi (multi port fuel injected) I would look into having it scoped by a certified tech. And do a vacuum leak test before you take it to a tech. Twitch
  8. You drive home very good points there. My stock height brat(brumby) with summer slicks is just as capable as many of those jacked up jeeps because of the weight advantage. They sink in snow/mud/soft dirt while I ride right on top of it. All i need is a slightly bigger and wider tire and I'm pretty near to unstoppable. Oh, and I hate you Your bumper = Twitch
  9. On friday night there was a group of 3 blue STi's, a white STi, and a light blue wanna say 93 lego wagon. Was there some sort of sube meet out there or something? Just curious... I was the pizza a guy that drove by in a white 2nd Gen brat and revved his engine... Twitch PS: Yes, I am that much of a dork.
  10. You could always pull the #1 cylinder spark plug wire off and let it arc to block. Just do the suggested "rough estimate" made by numchux and have someone else crank the engine and if the engine starts with the first wire pulled, you can fine tune it with the arcing of the spark plug wire. I personally have never had to do this (I always seem to have a timing light somewhere nearby) but I know people that have. Hope it works for you. Twitch
  11. Nice dude. Is this thread missing as many screws as your old FS thread? :-p And, already bookmarked, but nobody around when I am! COME JOIN OR WE WILL BE FORCED TO USE MORE CAPITAL LETTERS!!! (He's crazy!) (then again, aren't we all?) Twitch
  12. How old is the gas in the tank? If you're still having idle problems, I would recommend Iso-heet and some fuel injector/carb cleaner fuel additive. It should do a fair job of clearing up your problem. Or you could just dump half a can of seafoam in your tank. It'll do miracles on these little suby engines. Twitch
  13. Just take it out onto a dirt road and play "rally" You will know the joys of owning a brat after that. You'll be surprised at how much fun them little suckers are. Twitch
  14. So that's why you wanted to get home... I'm posting from my phone, btw. I have no idea about your question though. I would say its ok as long as its lubricated? Twitch
  15. Two brats over here, 80' and an 85'. I wanna see pics though! I'll post mine if you post yours
  16. I believe I'll do whatever my carbs can handle, most likely suck through, but if my carbs can handle it I would prefer to do a blow through. And as for the difficulty level being to high GD, you forget that you are dealing with an insane person. I'll do whatever is necessary to make it work and however much time and money I have to pour into it, I will. I'm going to have a beastly brat and WILL prove you wrong, GD, no offense. Mwahahahahahahaaaaaaa Let the battle commence!!! Twitch(ing)
  17. Unfortunately I have not but I do have friends who have and that are willing to help on the reconstruction side of things. I do, however, have a good knowledge of how turbocharged engines work. Also I have you guys! That helps alot.
  18. Ok. So I reeeeaaaally want to stick with carb, but when I rebuild my brat I'm going to be putting either two superchargers (which seem to work just fine with carbs) or two turbos (which seem to be preferred by FI guys). So now, if I have two carbs (yes I'm going to be doing twin 32/36 webers) would it make more sense if I did turbo or super? Turbo's are by far easier to get a hold of, but require special intakes and exhaust systems. Superchargers are a bit harder to get a hold of, but would only require an intake mod, not an exhaust mod. Sooooooo, with my find of an EA82 turbo in the JY , I'm halfway to having my turbo's, if I go with turbo. Sorry, I'm rambling, my main Q's are: 1:Will there be any problems with turbo/carb? 2:Will it be easier to do either? (please relate as much experience as possible!) 3:If this is an exteremely stupid idea, please tell me! (so I can prove you wrong!!!!! ) Twitch ---------------- Now playing: Ace of Base - Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry via FoxyTunes
  19. That is awesome that we posted about the same thing, at the same exact time Twitch
  20. Anybody have an idea on what that gray thing is attached to the side of the brat? It looks like a cupholder but I'm not sure, its right where the bed rail starts to level off... Twitch
  21. Oh, and brandon, you'll be happy to hear, I found an EA82 turbo in the jy on tuesday, with less than half a millimeter of shaft play! Can we say brat turbo? Twitch
  22. You'll never believe what I found in the jy yesterday. I found a booklet that diagrams the braking and passing capabilities of all 1980 subarus except for the brat. Plus an accessories catalog with all the accesory options for every model. Can we say ? I'll get them scanned in as pdf's asap and send them to those who wish to recieve and for the subaru of the 80's site! Mods, please direct me to whoever is taking care of that, I believe its McBrat, but please correct me if I am mistaken. Twitch(ing with joy)
  23. I believe the question should be not if its legal but if the cop is able to remember how to operate his lights from the shock of seeing a brat with people in the jumpers! sad joke sorry. :-p Twitch
  24. I'm sorry to hear that. If that ever happened to my brat I would definitely cry. Well, you could always do what everyone else is suggesting, new engine time! Do I smell an EJ swap in the future? And a leaky sunroof is nothing, just take a shop vac and a heater to the upholstery and reseal the sunroof with some sort of slicone sealer and have yourself some fun. It may very well make an awesome off roader, if you're willing to keep'er going. Twitch
  25. Have you tried unplugging the main harness itself and checking the reading? Since you have pulled all the fuses and you still get draw, I would start pulling the wiring harness out and checking it. A good visual once over (or twice over) would let you see if there are any breaks in the insulation. That may be what is causing the jump over to the alt plug. I would try getting another wiring harness and plugging it in. Also (I'm sure you've done this already but I have to ask) have you gone over the entire engine bay looking for any open plugs or broken connectors? And I would recommend that you unplug things (ie the disty) while having someone check the resistance on the battery terminals (not the posts.) Twitch
