  1. Never mind, my car was just being a brat :-p Sorry for any wasted time. It goes faster now,
  2. Ea81 brat manual 250k Won't run lower than 3k rpm's! Need help! Had water in intake, fair amount. Current temp is 33! Stuck in parking lot with gas attendants eying me funny! Help!!! I have all my tools and cleaners and towels at my disposal. I'm working on pulling the air cleaner thing! No I dea what the technical term is but I need help!
  3. The only "Subaru" I see on this car is the front grill. Other than that, nada. And I agree with a lot of you, its over styled. If they gave it, say the 06-07 impreza front end, the 87 gl wagon body style , a beastly hood scoop and the spoiler off of the 08 STi, to make it look "mean." Whatcha think? Any photoshoppers out there who would attempt my idea?
  4. Hey, and I thought I was the only one to do that my car :-p Yeah, I'm kinda glad I didn't do quite as much damage as psyko did. Did it take much tweaking to get the "new" one to go in? I've only gotten mine disassembled. Putting it back together is going to be the fun part. I'll keep ya'll updated and maybe after its all said and done I'll make an entry into the USRM! Twitch
  5. Hey, another N ID guy! I'm in rathdrum/athol of idaho!

  6. I was making a corner on a street in Spokane Washington and I hit a patch of ice making a corner. I was going like 10-15 mph at the time and to correct the slide towards the corner I cranked the wheel as far as I could away from the curb and eased on the throttle. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. I tagged the curb with my wheel and jammed my wheel into my fender. I was able to make the thing crawl into a Krispy Kreme parking lot, about 30 feet away and that's where it stopped. :-\ So I sat down and ate a donut and had some cocoa.
  7. This is what happens when you curb your car. Before: After: Yeah, I did that right after being rearended the night before. Pissed me off so much. Anyway, just wanted to share the carnage. The Bushing:
  8. Is that legacy still for sale? My gf is looking for a 5 speed legacy. We both live by coeur d alene and would be willing to drive to see it. pm me if you want to discuss any more details.

  9. Hey, first message on the new site! Hee hee. :D Anywho, feel free to show other people the bumper design, and if they want we might be able to do a group buy to make it cheaper.

  10. I don't have any pics currently but I'm in N. ID, about 45 minutes east of spokane, next to silverwood theme park.

  11. I might have what you're looking for, a 79 brat. Its currently buried like everything else around here. PM me if you have any interest.

  12. DOH! I was shutting off the engine before checking it. That would explain the erratic fluid levels, but what about the fact that it won't go! Sorry, still a little sore about having to drive my dad's pos chevy corsica. The thing rattles worse than my brat, and has a leaking head gasket and to top it all off, its an auto. It doesn't get much worse than that car. And thank you so very much everyone! And thank you caboobaru for the reminder to keep the car running. Twitch
  13. Ok, I had the location of the valve that went bad wrong. I got confused and looked at the wrong hose. Here's the pic's of the right valve. Or the right canister, and then also where they connect to the intake manifold box. Hope this gives a better idea about what I'm trying to figure out. Twitch P.S. Shameless question but, does anybody have any leading rods or stabilizer bars I could buy? My brat is still out of commission until I can get those fixed as well. I'll post in the wtb section too. Sorry about the having to click a link to see my pics, flickr doesn't like to play nicely with the picture link
  14. OK, I've heard that sometimes the tranny fluid will plug up in between the radiator and the tranny. I've also heard that the solution to this is to put a fuel filter on somewhere on the input line to the tranny cooler. Could this be what is afflicting me? Cuz my car sat for about 6 months while I weekended my engine apart and back together, and it may very well have let some sediment settle in the tranny. On the same note, would the fuel filter idea work? If not permanently, just to get the silt and sediment out? Thanks again for the help, Twitch
  15. Well, I've got not quite what you're looking for, but it may fit the bill. I have 79' Brat with a perfectly good ea71 that turns over but won't ignite. It ran when parked. The body is essentially dead, but the bed is immaculate. I have a canopy that fits that I'm selling separately if you just want to use the brat. The transfer case is shot but it still drives in fwd and it still has the original interior. I'll post pics when I can unbury it.
  16. Ok, I've searched, and searched, and oh yeah, searched. So far I've come up with where the EGR valve is and what it does, but no ideas on what it looks like. The PC valve, commonly called the PCV valve (a double statement but I won't even get started on that) is a whole nother animal. There is almost nothing relevant to what I need. So here's my Q. A couple months ago I started getting moisture and carbon in my intake manifold along with some funky foam/mold stuff. This is in my 85' Brat Sport, 1.8 H4, 4 speed manual, dual range, basically stock. I have pics of the stuff, not the best, but they show a fair amount. And if the pics won't show here's a link the first pic and the second pic and finally the third pic. I have no idea what that crap is but I was not happy to find it inside my intake manifold. I believe that the valve that leads out of the drivers side head failed, but I have no idea what valve that is. A little background light to the issue, my EGR light has been on since I bought the car but I haven't had an issue with anything until this occurrence. I was investigating a sputtering problem when I found it. Obviously the excess moisture was causing the sputtering, but I'm trying to narrow down what caused the excess moisture. I want to figure out what's up with this stuff, cuz I was on my way home when my throttle froze open. Its a load of fun when you push in the clutch and the engine wraps itself up over 6 grand. After it did this I pulled the entire intake off and inspected and cleaned it. I found carbon chunks in the manifold pan(?), whatever the air filter sits in. And also I figured out that the little plastic tank/bottle has a connection thingamajigger at the bottom that was being melted/eroded by something. This brings me back to my original statement. Is that the EGR or the PC(V) valve that connects to the hose that runs to the black plastic tank/bottle? And if it is how hard would it be to fix it/replace it? I have looked up prices on both of them and the EGR was like $120-$140 and the PCV was only 2 bucks. So any input on this? I need my Brat to run as well as possible and asap cuz my legacy is probably shot. ---------------- Now playing: Ace of Base - The Sign via FoxyTunes
  17. Heh, that is quite amusing. Oh and something kewl that happened up here in North Idaho. This was as of a few weeks ago, but it still seems valid. They were showing a clip of a highway that had been shut down because of weather conditions and there was only one car on the road, still moving under its own power that is. A 2009 Subaru Forester 2.5XT!!! He he he. Oh, and there were suv's on the road, sort of, if you can count the ditch and half the shoulder. Subaru rules and always will ---------------- Now playing: Teddy Verseti - Church via FoxyTunes I don't normally listen to rap/hip hop, but it seems fitting if you've ever heard it.
  18. Sweet! That's cheaper than expected. And a tranny is all I need. The drive shafts and everything else will be custom anyway.

  19. Hey, headgaskets are easy. Trust me, I did one, well two, basically in my own garage with a chilton manual and some advice from a few mechanics. This was before I had discovered the USMB. They're easy to do. All you need is an engine lift and a 12 point 14mm that fits really, really well. If you strip a headbolt, hoo boy! Oh, and a torque wrench. That's about it. Where is clearwater? I have a 90 legacy, with a basically rebuilt 91 engine in it, that needs a new tranny. Sounds like you have a legacy that needs a new engine with a good tranny. Wanna make a deal? Twitch
  20. Check out your fuel injectors. Test them with an ohm-meter. Touch each contact to one of the two blades, the ones that connect to the plug. They should read between 10 and 15 ohms or kilo-ohms. Can't quite remember. Just check a repair manual and it should tell you. Hope it helps :-\ Twitch
  21. Too bad for anybody that wants it, the author deleted the post. It may well have been sold or they got spooked by all the conversation on this thread. But whatever the deal was it must have been a killer one, for it to disappear that fast.
  22. As I said, its till in the beginning stages, I have to swap out my stock EA81 for a performance tuned, aeronautic engine. Hopefully with forged pistons, aluminum headers, etc, etc, etc.

For now, though, I'm stuck with my stock engine and 4 speed tranny. But I have some connections to the aeronautics field, that may allow me to get my hands on one for cheap. :)

I'll keep everybody posted on how its going. Btw, anybody know how much an STi tranny would cost from a wreckyard? 6 speed manual only, clutch optional, probably be putting an adapter plate between the clutch and the engine anyway, so its not absolutely necessary.

Anyway, yeah, when I'm done I expect 450+ WHP and the ability to spin all 4 on dry pavement. Anybody wanna race? Or should I say, Any Evo wanna get creamed?

  23. I would agree with jaren here, but I have had two misdiagnoses (ok one definitive misdiagnosis) from these guys and each time they want an arm and a leg to do anything about it. They wanted over a thousand for an engine swap, but that included the engine. It was around $500-$700 for just a swap. And that was for the same engine, no wiring or exhaust modifications. If anything I would try searching in the nickels worth, nickel nik, or craigslist for a subaru mech. I personally don't have much faith in the SSS.
  24. Hey man, I am in full agreement with your user name. EVO's SUCK!!! I'm personally working on an evo eater. Its still in the begining stages but when I'm done I'm hoping for these stats:

    85' Subaru Brat

Twin Supercharged EA81 W/ a four barrel weber carb

    2.25" flowmaster Cat-back dual exhaust

6 speed STi manual tranny w/dual range transfer case

27" BFG's With quick swap capability to street tires. :)
