Electric fan sounds like star wars character
bratman18 replied to Caramanos2000's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would personally try to find one from another Subaru. They don't fail that often. But it would just bolt and plug right in! -

I meant the rear end of the vehicle. I should have been more specific. Sorry bout that -

The tank is right under the rear end. It just bolts up into place. The fuel pump in front and to the left of the tank. -
It doesn't sound like a bad price, my grandparents bought an 02 outback for 13k. So it sounds alright to me. The advantages to buying from a dealer are that HOPEFULLY everything or anything that needs to be or needed to be replaced or fixed was done, but of course there is no real guarantee to that. I would ask to see what was done to it before they put it out on the lot. Also see what kind of warranty they offer

sure why not:lol: My point was that the exhaust is meant to go far enough back for safety reasons and partially for the motor. I have had exhaust that is in terrible condition as well but if possible it should really be fixed.

I want one! I love the styling of the RX It kind of looked like a vintage rally car, it sat up tall!

wondering about CV joints
bratman18 replied to roadtojoy123's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It also has to do with the fact that the axles just aren't quite long enough and it puts a bunch of stress on the boots. You'll notice also that the passenger side ones usually don't last as long because they sit above the cat, so the heat wears them out as well -
Looks great! I know I'm jealous!
-
Ok cool. Just please let me know ahead of time next time. And a side note, you should get it fixed not just for the cops but because your exhaust really should go further back than before the cat:-\. Good luck with it!

Replace 4wd disty w/ 2wd disty?
bratman18 replied to GR86BRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's what I've been told several times, something about the timing being advanced. I've never had a 2WD one to try so I've never done it -
Front Stub Axle Question
bratman18 replied to lostinthe202's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
ahhh, well I guess when you do pull the tranny you will have to count the splines. Then you will know if it is a turbo tranny or not...I hate it when people screw with stuff and they really don't know what they are doing! It makes a lot more work for the next person -
So do you still need the y-pipe?

Front Stub Axle Question
bratman18 replied to lostinthe202's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You could only use the stub shafts if you stayed with the turbo axles. They should just pop out I can't remember details. But if you use the stub shafts out of your tranny they will only fit turbo axles which you'll have to remember if you ever order new axles -

I think that spacers in the rear would definitely solve your problem. You just need to find some lugs that work! -

84 Gl Wagon won't start - help
bratman18 replied to Wendy5647's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check the fusible links. They are in a little black box right on the drivers side. They are little wires that are different colors. Make sure none of them have broken, you might have to pull on them lightly. With it sitting so long, the brakes might be rusted a little -
It probably wouldn't be to hard to whip up some blocks for the crossmembers as well to correct the cv angle
-
Very nice!! You should whip up a few sets and sell them!!

I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this project move along! A TDI Subaru! That will be awesome! Hopefully you get it all to work!! Sweet! This was my 1,000th post
