Still interested in the big horns if you're not gonna use them.

I never had a single issue with axles or anything with any 3 of my 2" strut top lifted subarus. And only one of those had the correct camber. I've never understood why some people do.

FINALLY!! found the one I've been looking for.

It already has an ej. -
Probably don't need to do anything with the rear. The rear axles are much more forgiving than the front. I have mine dropped 4" in the rear without dropping the rear diff.
-
Was it sold to you as having a 6" lift? Looks like a 2" JAW lift to me, and it has the decals to back that up. That's a pretty typical home made style lift for those cars, and doesn't usually cause axle problems. The blocks are usually cut at angles and have holes drilled offset to correct the camber. And the rear is just a bent piece of flat steel to drop the struts the same amount.

Zap offered copies last year on here. I was one of the ones to get a copy. I'm pretty sure one of the rules was to not copy it. -
I really wasn't sure. I didn't know if the wiring for the coil or anything like that was different. Or.....I don't know. I have very little experience with carburetors as well. I didn't know if something wasn't plug and play there as far as hoses go. IM quite sure it's been done, and didn't know if someone knew anything that I should know while doing it.

Yeah as I said in my post, it'll be coupled to the 4 spd dual range tranny, so bolting it all in will be no problem at all. I'm curious about electronics and what not though. I'm not sure if it's plug and play or not! I have no experience with 1st gen at all, and fuel neglection (carb) lol. I'm hoping it won't be too bad.
-
Well this one isn't quite in there yet lol. I'm hoping it will be an easy swap. The guy no longer has the ea71.

You have any pics of the lower strut lift you made?

Bump. Anyone know about running the ea81? And here's a few pics of what it looks like. It had a little rust here and there but overall very solid. Has been fitted with EA81 front and rear crossmembers and suspension along with a little bit of lift. Will get the EA81 motor along with the 4 spd dual range. Needs to be reassembled and still some body work to clean up as well. Very rare in this area, and the person that has it can't finish it. Should make a pretty cool ride once it's done.

A subaru outback, or legacy outback is the same thing. The biggest difference between a regular legacy and an outback is the outback is lifted from the factory. Also, all outback with exception of the 96 5 spd came with the 2.5 motor. Most regular legacy's came with a 2.2 motor. Outback also have a 2 tone paint job, or the newer ones have 2 tone because of trim. Regular legacy's are a solid color. There is also an impreza outback sport. But they are based on the impreza platform and they don't sit any higher.

Pretty sure I'm going to be acquiring a 79 Brat. It's had a bunch of work done to it. Some needed, and a bunch to modify. My question right now is, it came with the 1600 motor, and will have an 1800 motor when it's done. Is there anything different needed to make it run the newer motor? The EA81 is out of an 83 gl wagon. Also, is a 4 spd single range tranny, the same length as a 4 spd dual range? Because it'll have a dual range as well. I need to figure out a tranny mount as well. I know I'm going to have more questions as time goes on, but that's it for now.

EA71 fat case with FWD Impreza transmission
bratman18 replied to 1000 Pistes's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
You're right. I was looking at it wrong. So yeah, this won't work with removing an inch from the motor or tranny, if that's even possible. I know I've read about someone wanting to do it before. -
