  1. Yeah man don't give up!!! Excellent point is the fact that you have a rust free body to start with!!! I can only dream of that! And just because you are not a expert mechanic shouldn't stop you! It was just a fluke, it probably is just a little bad luck, and believe me I bet everyone on this board has had some of this! Just take a breather and tackle it again later! And I know that there are people that would be willing to give you a hand, because they have said so! I would if I was closer! But don't give up...Please! We all get frustrated with our cars but don't let it end your obsession with subys!
  2. Yeah the undercoating eventually cracks or the surface that it is sprayed on...whether from the factory or yourself...wasn't prepared properly and what you can't see is that there are pockets under the undercoating which with age allows water and dirt to find a way into those areas! When this happens it rusts terribly! My Brat has been oiled on every seam, crack, crevace, hole, and then some every year at least once a year for the last 10 years and I strongly believe that that is why I have one of the very, very, very few old subarus that aren't completely rusted out in Maine! I use NAPA brand chain and cable lube. It spreads out and into the metal and repels moisture!
  3. Alright I'm jealous why don't you all come out to Maine so that I can go too!
  4. Yeah thanks! When I first registered it did not give me all of the fields to fill out!? I dunno why but thanks for fixing it!
  5. I signed up too and activated it from the link in my e-mail but when I try to sign in it says that i'm using the wrong username or password. I dunno why but it does! Any ideas? I figured that it just didn't work so I tried registering again and it said that I couldn't use my username and password because it was already in use but I still can't log in!? please help!
  6. Yeah same here...most of them just don't appreciate a classic subaru!! Oh well, everyone else hangs out their window to show their appreciation. You hardly see any old subarus in Maine!
  7. Beautiful Brat! I'm jealous! Nice find!!! Yeah get whatever you can from SJRlift.com he's the way to go! And yes oil the bottom and wash often!! Good luck!
  8. Just let us know what we have to do to join and what its gonna be all about! Looking forward to it!
  9. Besides the wiring that is visible on the back of the tank..where would I look...any suggestions?! Thanks
  10. Sorry to hear about that! But don't give up! Find out what went wrong! I have a motor as well that I would probably sell fairly cheap, it's my spare but I feel for ya!! So let me know if you're interested! Just don't give up on it!!
  11. Can someone post pics please!?! I've never seen one!
  12. Hey does anyone have a gas gauge sending unit? I think thats what its called?! It mounts at the back of the tank. My gas gauge doesn't work and I'm pretty sure thats the reason
  13. Yes wash often and while the car is dry..oil it. I use NAPA brand chain and cable lube. It actually soaks into the metal and spreads! Spray it into all holes on the bottom and all from the top...any you can find! unscrew the trim pieces on the rocker panels...under the door, and spray in there. And any seams that you can find as well. Mine has been oiled like this for ten yrs now and if it hadn't I know it would have ended up like all the other old subarus in Maine....Piles of rust!!! Some people also use linseed oil and cover the whole bottom of the car with it. And my uncle still sprays a fine coat of used motor oil on the bottom of his. Good Luck and nice find!!
  14. how much? I ain't got the slightest on how much one would go for but...aren't they fiberglass? if its in good shape its got to be worth a fair amount?!
  15. yes when my brat gets below 1/4 tank it sputters when starting and stopping. it sucks!
  16. i've never seen one! so if you get pics please post!!!!
  17. yeah i actually bought one from barracuda. I think.,...i'm not sure...but i think this style was a brat only thing.
  18. So your experience is that it is important to match the lift of the rest of the car, with the rear diff? I haven't wheeled mine yet but I only dropped it 2'' on a 4'' lift. I haven't had any problems on the road but like I said I haven't really tested it yet. Just wondering what your input is?! Thanks!
  19. Yeah I know what I meant but couldn't think of the actual name...If you pull the valve covers to replace them you will end up replacing the valve covers as well and they all come in the same kit so I figured he would get what I was saying.
