  1. This happened in a friends Impreza sedan. I just removed the rear seats, crawled in, and was able to open the trunk.
  2. I pulled out a 1/2 ton 4x4 Chevy out of some mud on an old neighbors lawn, then backed into the ruts he had made and pulled his other 1/2 ton 4x4 Chevy with a 7 1/2' plow, and pulled that out too. That was with my 89 touring wagon with 2" lift. Those were the biggest things, but pulled out plenty of other vehicles too. With my Brat I pulled out a full size tree truck stuck on a muddy lawn. This was a big diesel, with 55' boom, and dual wheels. I was on tar on that one, so had lots of grip, but I was still smoking the tires in lo. I love proving people wrong with my little Subarus!
  3. 05 WRX is a 2.0 and came stock with the TD04 turbo. Any 02-07 WRX, 04-08 Forester XT will have the right turbo for this. In 08 the WRX's still had the TD04 but it was a different style so it won't bolt on. And yeah, may want to check for other damage if it was that oil deprived! Those turbo motors, especially the 2.0 do not like to be run low on oil at all!
  4. Yeah the general consensus about newer gen and offroad is that the autos are awesome. I have one in my Forester and it's great! I agree that a cooler might be a good upgrade. Heat is what kills automatic trannys.
  5. It has everything to do with tire size and nothing to do with the wheel. They are quite rare and very hard to find, so good luck on your search! But they would be a sweet find.
  6. The thing is, your 90 had different style springs then what is on the newer Legacy's, for the rear anyway. So I wonder if that's why my experience is different.
  7. Chances are unless it's a turbo, it's not an LSD. You can check by jacking up and spinning one wheel. If it's an LSD then both rear tires will spin in the same direction. If it's not, they will spin opposite.
  8. It's all good man. I still say the springs are different, and that's from my own personal experience, but I guess I'd have to check it out again. I wonder if the spring rates are different between the 2, which could make a difference on strut longevity as well.
  9. Yet you made the clear distinction between Outback and Forester struts......If you're going to give info, give the full and correct info about the topic. You made it sound as though Outback and Forester struts were different when in fact only certain years really were. I just wanted to clarify. Sorry if I'm coming across as an rump roast, been a bad night.
  10. That info about the Forester struts is only for the 98-02. The 03-08 Forester strut is almost the same as the Outback strut, the spring perch is higher like the Outback.
  11. My guess is dual range 5spd manual transmission. Hope our advice helped with the brakes!
  12. You'll notice there are indentations on the piston. There is a tool for it, but you can just use a pair of pliers, just put the tips in the indentations, and screw them in.
  13. You don't need a new head, or even removing the one that's in there. You can get a kit to re thread the spark plug hole and add an insert, then thread the plug back in. I had to do this on an old car I had, worked great.
  14. Here is another pic after I had installed an Outback front bumper
  15. It was done to a 99 Legacy L sedan that my girlfriend had. Just swapped in used Outback strut assemblies. Here is a pic
  16. Oooh shiny! I really need to do this to mine, seems like time is so hard to come by though! But it looks great man, nice job.
  17. Ok, just speaking from experience, so feel free to try it yourself.
  18. I will also add to NOT use the ebay header! They are cheaply made with thin metal, and the flex section for the one piece header/up pipes are junk! They will break apart and suck up into your turbo.........ask me how I know.
  19. Well you do get what you pay for. But, most of the ebay exhausts will hold up pretty good. As for the down pipe, if you want a catted one, don't cheap out. You can get a used one cheaper that will do just fine, along with the rest of the exhaust as well. Make sure the Accessport you get is the right model for whichever car you are using it for. Also, while WRX/STi exhausts will fit on the Forester XT, the tip will not stick out as far on the rear bumper, so at times it causes the rear bumper to melt a little, and you will most likely have to use longer exhaust hangers to have it hang down at the right height.
  20. Pretty sure that Outback strut assemblies give more than 1.5" of lift, but regardless, if you use spacers on top if them, you don't really want to have more than 2" over stock. Your cv axles will wear much faster if you do. And I hope you're using Outback springs too. If you use Legacy springs on the Outback struts, your struts will wear out quite fast.
