  1. Sorry, Skip, but firstwagon's question is a good one. Most of us are aware that Subaru's diesel was just unveiled in Geneva yesterday and we're all anxious to know the details. If anyone comes across any press releases or up-to-date info, please post!
  2. To help educate some of the "less knowledgable" amongst us, Subaru introduced OBDII in the l995 model year, one year before it was federally mandated. The story I heard was that when the FHI bigwigs saw the '95 Legacy protoype they said "Well obviously this is the best looking car we'll ever be able to produce. And of course it has the best engine we've ever built. Let's go ahead and give it OBDII." And now you know.
  3. Way to go, DrKrazy. Looks like you scored! Please do keep us informed of your progress (I love stories like this!) Aloha.
  4. Thanks for the response. Sounds like classic pitted/arced contacts to me. Try a search--it's been pretty well documented in the past. Good luck.
  5. It could well be just the contacts--a cheap and realtively easy fix. What are your symptoms (what do you mean by "going out?")
  6. Nor am I. But I think in this case the coolant temp sensor could be considered a basic.
  7. A new fuel filter is a good idea. You also might want to replace the engine coolant temperature sensor. Good luck.
  8. Seems odd but I have a ton of headroom in my '95 Legacy wagon--and I'm 6'-2"!
  9. Auwe! Thank goodness The Pretty One is okay and, hopefully, continues in good spirits--that's the best aid for a speedy recovery. Sorry about Honu, but she did what she had to do. Heckuva way to get a new Subaru! Me ka Aloha Pumehana.
  10. Sorry, but I would have to disagree. Maybe I'm just a cynic, but dealers are in business for one thing . . . and that doesn't necessarily include providing you with a problem free vehicle! Over the past 20 years I've had great results buying from private parties. Of course you have to evaluate the vehicle--and the seller--very carefully. Good luck. And I hope you find that perfect '90-'96 2.2L wagon!!!
  11. Good info, Snowman. Sure hope it really has improved your mpg's. Do you drive Sophia everyday? Be sure to let us know down the road how the mileage holds up.
  12. This might help you. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41301&highlight=headlight+socket
  13. I wouldn't worry too much about that. People are pretty smart. Everyone has a built-in BS detector, granted some are more attuned than others. And hopefully everyone realizes that a forum like this is basically just opinion--most are wonderfully spot-on, some a bit off-the-wall. But each individual will read, interpret, judge and come to their own conclusion. For example, say two newcomers just found USMB today and they both read this thread. One might say "Wow, that Mr. Manarius must be very smart and important--everything he writes shows up in boldface." Whereas the other one might say "Sheesh, who is this egocentric, arrogant guy who posts everything in boldface? Does he think what he says is more important than everyone else?" See? Each would read, interpret, judge . . . and form his own conclusion.
  14. Forgive me for going off-topic, tc, but how are you doing? Can you give us an update? I know a lot of us are praying/hoping/wishing for your speedy recovery. It's always nice to see your name on a post. Aloha.
  15. Thanks weddes05--good observations and very helpful. I drive "one of the best" (Phase 1 2.2) so I'm a happy camper. Recent new timing belt, cam/crank seals, plugs/wires at 117k and my little boxer feels like a brand new engine. Truth is, I've been struggling to think of any major problems I've had . . . and I can't!
