  1. I took an '05 Outback. 2.5L with AT, for a test drive. Beautiful car, clean as a whistle and no dents or rust, available at a good price. But it drove like an overweight pig! After 30 years of driving peppy 1.8 and 2.2L wagons I was really disappointed. Found a parking lot and tried a torque bind test--turned the steering wheel full R and the car would not move at idle, Had to give it some gas to force it to go, same thing to the L. No bucking or jerking. Later tried to back into the seller's driveway and at idle it stalled the engine. Was that torque bind? Some other transmission problem? I'd consider buying the car if it's just the transfer clutch behind the tranny--but I don't want to buy big problems! Thanks for any input.
  2. If you want to try the radiator idea, block the airflow through it with sheet metal or something. You might even glop a lot of flat black paint or driveway sealant on the fins.
  3. This was mentioned earlier regarding an EJ22 swap: Can someone show me photos or a schematic of how and where this splice can be done? Thanks!
  4. As heartless said, only NGK or OEM wires are acceptable. Off the rack parts store wires are inferior--no matter how fancy the name!
  5. Just a thought--do you have a proper Subaru t-stat or a cheapie parts store one? Have you tested it in a pot of boiling water?
  6. Get new copper contacts for the starter solenoid. They're not expensive and are relatively easy to replace.
  7. Welcome to the USMB. Yup, hard to beat a Subie!
  8. Welcome aboard, L5. You're gonna love this place--just like we do!
  9. Check out Mizumo Auto for price. Call them for details--like who manufactures belt (Mitsuboshi is the best.) And if you're getting a water pump, get Aisin.
  10. Welcome to the USMB. Suggest you post your questions in the Older Gen forum.
  11. Welcome to the USMB. You should post your question in the New Generation forum.
  12. That's an odd statement, Subasaurus. I can't think of a better place to have a Brat!!! (Okay, I'm prejudiced.)
  13. Chaid--are you sure the two clicks are coming from the main relay? Or could it be from the starter solenoid? If it was the solenoid clicking, that could mean burnt/pitted copper contacts. Easy fix.
  14. Welcome to the USMB, peter--you're gonna love it here! I'd suggest you start a thread in the Newer Generation forum--you'll get more responses there. It's probably not the gas tank--more likely the gas filler tube. And that can be replaced in the car. Good luck!
  15. Try a search here on USMB or Google for "Subaru Starter Contacts." Lots of info out there, even some Youtube videos. Then if you're still stuck come back on this thread and ask for help! (I'll try to remember the steps!)
  16. Do you hear the solenoid click each time you turn the key to start? It's most likely burned & pitted copper contacts inside the solenoid. they provide the heavy current to the starter motor. Relatively easy DIY fix and new contacts should be less than $20.
  17. Are you sure it's the ignition lock assembly that's bad? What happens when you turn the key?
  18. Welcome to USMB, scoobidave. Post your technical problems & questions in the Newer Gen Forum--you'll get more responses there.
