Here's a blast from the past with Porcupine73's fine pictorial documentation! http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=75009&highlight=coolant+temp+sensor It is a bit of a PITA to access. I replaced mine when I had the IACV out of the car for cleaning--access was super easy then. Good luck.

Welcome aboard Arjen. Your Subarus look gorgeous--how long have you had them? Do you do your own restoration/maintenance? Aloha from Hawai'i. -
Welcome Ben. Yeah, you found a good "home" here. Good luck with the '96--if it's half as good as my old '95 you'll be a happy camper!

Welcome aboard Dennis--and congrats on getting back into a Subaru! Folks here are helpful as all get-out so do ask questions. But get familiar with the "search" function too--just about everything you need to do to a Subie has been documented there at one time or another!

Welcome aboard! P0506 - Idle Air Control System RPM Lower Than Expected A vacuum leak An air restriction in the intake air path or exhuast A faulty positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve Damaged/failed/dirty throttle body Internal engine problem Failed PCM When was your air filter last replaced? Your IACV (Idle Air Control Valve) might be gunked up and need cleaning. New PCV valve might help--and clean out any gunk in the hoses leading to it. Good luck.

Welcome Matthew. You've found a great place here--good info and good people. Suggestion: Put "Columbus OH" as your location in the ID rather than a zip code--helps readers visualize where you are when they respond to you.

Hello from Southwestern Michigan

Welcome and congrats on the '95 Legacy. I drive one--the EJ22 is a great engine, non-interference and virtually bulletproof! It's OBD-II so you can pull codes with a reader. Definitely do the timing belt, all the idlers and water pump (check ebay and "theimportexperts" for the best prices on these.) Replace the thermostat and gasket (both OEM.) Replace the crank & cam seals (use OEM.) Pull the oil pump--inspect, tighten any loose screws and re-seal with a new o-ring and Permatex Ultra-grey. Replace the PCV valve and clean out the attached hoses. Might want to get new spark plugs (most basic NGK coppers are the best) and wires (suggest OEM.) Change all fluids and filters too. If the car has received half-way decent care before, you should be good to go for quite awhile. By all means ask questions as they come up. But learn how to control the "search" function on here--this board is better than an encyclopedia, you can find everything you need to know to work on your new Subaru. And best of luck.
