  1. Congratulations! Hope you got a good price. New timing belt, pulleys, tensioner (if needed,) crank & cam seals, oil pump re-seal, water pump & thermostat replacement--very wise step. Shifter bushings will make it feel like a new car. Good luck . . . post some pix if you can.
  2. Congrats on your search--and your wisdom to walk away if something doesn't look good. 300k sounds awful but if it's had TLC and decent preventive maintenance along the way it may be a good buy. Just use your best judgment. One big plus is that the '96 with a manual tranny has the EJ22 engine--the "bulletproof" 2.2L. Good luck!
  3. It's most likely the copper contacts in the starter's solenoid--a very common problem and not too expensive or difficult a fix. Try a search here on USMB or just Google it. Plenty of info available on how to do it. Good luck!
  4. Sounds like pitted/burned/worn copper contacts to me. It's not terribly difficult to pull the starter, open the back of the solenoid and swap in new contacts . . . a lot cheaper than buying a new or re-maned starter!

Welcome to USMB, larry. You might want to post your question in the Newer Gen Forum--more eyeballs there!
  6. Welcome to the USMB, Rstnal14. You need to post this in the Older Generation Forum. Good luck with the Loyale.
  7. Maybe a previous owner swapped an EJ22 into your Loyale? Does it run okay? If so, maybe the re-wiring has already been done!
  8. Depends--how bad is the leak? You don't want oil all over your timing belt! That's why most of us change seals, almost automatically. What kind of axle did you replace yours with?
  9. Congrats! Now you're ready for the next 300k!!!
  10. Hey, Crash--welcome to USMB. Congrats, your car is a classic--last of the "bullet proof" non-interference 2.2s. Lots of good info and good people here to help you get her tip-top.
  11. Welcome to the USMB! And congrats on the GL--it looks beautiful. Brings back nice memories of the two '85s we had.
  12. ^ Agreed! Try to find a reputable, honest independent shop that, ideally, specializes in Subarus. A dealer will whip out a clipboard and try to sell you a lot of unnecessary, expensive services! Good luck.
  13. Welcome to the USMB, Chris. Suggest you start a thread describing your problem in the Newer Generation forum. And you might try a search here on the site--I think the problem has been discussed before. Good luck.
  14. Wow, that wagon looks nice! Did you buy it used? How many miles on it? For a brake handle, try a Pull n' Pay yard. Or try online used parts sites. Good luck.
  15. ThosL, take your car to a reputable auto body shop and get an estimate to repair the damage. Then present a copy of the estimate to the other party's insurance company--that would give you the best chance for a fair settlement. Good luck.
