  1. +1 to what heartless said. Post your questions in the "older gen" forum. This is just a "Hi, welcome to USMB" area. That said . . . Hi, welcome to USMB!
  2. Just remembered something else you might want to replace while you are into the front end. Check out "Cam support o-rings" in avk's post: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=61591&highlight=o-ring There is one o-ring on the front of the left (driver's side) cam and a matching one on the rear of the right (passenger's side) cam.
  3. Exactly what johnc said! Why do half a job when you've gone to all the effort of opening up the front end? The oil pump o-ring is every bit as important as the crank seal. And it's really so easy to do it's a no-brainer!
  4. Great news, sounds like you're well on your way! Can't offer any suggestions on the first issue. Just hope the coolant burns out of the exhaust without doing any damage I guess. On your second issue, you're in luck because you can work on the front end without yanking the engine again. Pull the oil pump and check it over, they're pretty rugged so chances are it's okay. Make sure the screws that hold the pump's backing plate are tight. Then remount it with a new o-ring and a bead of ultra-grey sealant. Definitely put in new crank & cam seals (suggest Subaru OEM.) New timing belt would be a wise investment now. Check all your idlers--the cogged one nearest the waterpump is usually first to go. Check the tensioner for proper operation (compress it very slowly.) And of course it's a great time to install a new waterpump too! Hope all goes well from here on. And hope you get to roll along behind a smooth EJ22 soon!
  5. Let's hope that you've discovered the source of your problem. Do you have a source for a new or used one in PR? Any salvage yards or pull-and-pays? Good luck--hope this gets you up and running again.
  6. "LEAVE IT TO FATE!" Now that's funny! You sure can't argue against the logic!
  7. Car may make it just fine . . . or not! No way to predict. I think for something that important in my life, I'd look for alternate transportation--rent or borrow a car, maybe take the bus. Big question is, why would we want to help someone who wants to be a lawyer? J/k! Good luck on the exams!
  8. Not hard at all, it's all here on the USMB. You just have to search a little bit. Here's a thread that may help you (took about 10 seconds to find it): http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=109755&highlight=ects+coolant+temp+sensor Good luck.
  9. That's okay, we'll forgive you this time. Welcome to USMB, hope you find the help you need.
  10. Welcome aboard, Major Jr. Great place here, enjoy!
  11. Time: 8:47 PM HST Recipient: Rob (Subruise) Task: Welcome! Status: Completed Result: Successful
  12. Good going! Now you have a laundry list to go back and bargain with. If you still want the car. The items don't sound like deal-breakers to me (but I'd love to hear what H6 owners think.) Now you can go back and make a lowball offer "to take it off their hands!!!"
  13. Yay, sounds great! Here's an engine pulling thread from a few years ago that may be of help: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=59033 Someone did a pretty good writeup with pix not long ago but I can't recall who/what/when. Anybody remember? Good luck--hope all goes well.
  14. Very good! Sounds nice and I'm sure you're gonna' enjoy it. And if questions come up, don't forget you have friends here!
  15. To answer the question in your title: No! (Not under pressure anyway!) I've heard that the H-6 is a good engine, only weakness might be the timing chain guides (?) but that's only hearsay since I've never even seen an H-6. If you really like the car (try not to let it show too much!) tell the salesman you like it . . . but not at the price they're asking. Then turn and walk away. He'll come after you--remember, he's under more pressure to sell than you are to buy! BTW, loved your descriptions of him, "high pressure salesman hounding me" then "seems salesman knows less about this car than I do." Ain't it the truth!!! Good luck.
  16. Welcome btanywy! Good place here, hopefully you'll get some help, suggestions, camaraderie! Just a comment re search (some people are kinda picky about that... ) It's not being picky, just smart. This place is like a living encyclopedia of Subie knowledge. Practically everything anyone needs to know has probably been discussed before. So why re-invent the wheel? By all means people should ask questions--all we ask is that folks show a little initiative and do a little research before expecting someone else to solve their problem for them. Omigosh, was that a rant? Oh well, it's over now. Again, welcome btanywy--good luck and enjoy!
  17. Perhaps. In fact . . . probably! Welcome aboard,enjoy!
  18. Welcome aboard, Jake. Yeah, this is a great place for anyone who cares about their Subaru. Good luck with your '87 (I still miss my old GL wagon!) Keep us up on your progress.
  19. Dang, what a pretty Li'l Red Wagon! Makes me miss my old DL and GL wagons.
