I second heartless' sentiments, welcome aboard! '95 Legacy--good car with a wonderful engine. For axles check out MWE (you can find them through CCR in Denver.) Shifter bushings can be a bit of a pain but definitely one of the most satisfying things you can do for driving happiness! Get familiar with the "search" function up above--there's tons of great information archived on USMB. And when you get into it post questions in the new gen forum, lotsa' helpful people. Good luck, take care and keep us up on your progress.

Not indecisive--when time and money are tight you have to think things through carefully. Am happy that you have some options to consider. Quite honestly after your horror stories (and melted knock sensors) I don't think I'd ever trust the original engine. Look the $300 engine over and see what you think--it might be the best bet. If you go with it, give it as thorough a going-over as you can--front end especially. Good luck and please do keep us up on your progress.

Just for giggles I did some simple research: KBB says it's worth about $6660. Edmunds TMV values it at $4171. Of course KBB is a "tool of the trade," something for salesmen to wave under a customers nose and say "See!" Whereas Edmunds claims to give True Market Value based on actual sales by area. Don't know if either of them addresses head gasket issues!!!

Good questions about the Ti. At that age the air suspension could be problematic. I believe a lot of people have simply replaced it with normal suspension--can be done but is more work and expense to you. I always told my kids, when you're buying a used car spend as much time sizing up the seller as you do the car. And yes, that comes from experience (not all good!) Anyway, good luck and keep us informed.

I tend to agree with what GD said, even though I love my '95! Both have the "bulletproof" EJ22. '94 is OBD-1 and '95 is OBD-2, if that makes any difference to you. Only way to decide is to go check 'em out. Compare price, condition, appearance, driveability, history (to whatever degree you can determine it!) On the surface at least it sounds like a couple of good choices. Good luck.

Sorry this one didn't work out for you, jensen. Wish you could have experienced a smooth running EJ22 and the reassuring feeling of dependability they usually give. Maybe throwing a new (used) engine in it would have given you a good ride--but who knows? I can certainly understand your not wanting to throw anymore time/money into it. Good luck--and hope you can find the right Subie some day.

Jack, have you considered sourcing the rear extension housing/clutches from a pull-and-pay or salvage yard? Might even do the same for the duty-c! Once you have the unit on the ground you could study the clutch plates, grind them smooth as needed. There were threads about this on here a few years ago. Would be more work but could save you some bucks. Goodluck.

Advice? Keep on with what you're doing--learn all you can about your car, pay attention to any little signs of a problem, always check out CELs. Sounds like the previous owner gave you a good start, that's great. Keep up with the routine/preventive maintenance and your car probably will last "forever!" The '95 EJ22 is an excellent engine, I can vouch for that. But you've already done the best thing you can do for your Subie--you joined USMB!

Hi, welcome aboard. Lotsa' help available here, but you might want to post technical questions on the old gen forum--you'll get more action there!
