  1. True! Get a small, clean container like a yogurt cup and put the required amount in it. I've done it to several family cars over the years--never had a problem with the O2s. Good luck. Enjoy the show!
  2. When you replace the PCV be sure to remove the hoses that connect to it and clean them thoroughly--or replace them. They can get really gunked up. For using Seafoam try a search, there have been numerous threads over the years. Here's an old one that covers a lot of ground: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42623&highlight=seafoam Good luck.
  3. Might help your fuel economy if you do some general tuneup--oil & filter, fresh ATF, air & fuel filters, new plugs & wires, new PCV valve and clean connecting hoses, clean MAF & IACV, check vacuum hoses, throw some Techron in the gas tank, maybe Seafoam the top end. How many miles on the car? Might be time to change the front O2 sensor anyway. Check your brakes too. They could be dragging a bit--make sure the sliders are properly greased. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
  4. Your starting problem is most likely the copper contacts gone bad in your starter solenoid. Relatively easy and cheap fix--lots of writeups and links on here, try a search. Good luck.
  5. And now, the contrarian view (with apologies to Rooster!) Go to Amazon-dot-com and order a Bosch universal, you'll save a ton of money. Be sure to enter your car's information to make sure you get a compatible one. No need to solder (in fact you are not supposed to since the sensor leads are not copper), just use the povided connector and follow their instructions. It's a bit fussy but certainly doable.
  6. We've got to have more to go on than just "2.2"! What year/model? What kind of transmission? Mileage? What happens when it "won't start?" Does the engine turn over but not fire off? What sounds do you hear if any?
  7. What year is it, '97? Try a search under "shifter bushings"--been lots of discussions over the years. Here's one from when I did mine: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=68989&highlight=shifter+bushings Good luck.
  8. Welcome! I kinda think the answer is in your statement: Sounds like something your mechanic did--or didn't. Could be any number of things, maybe as simple as a sensor not plugged in or the timing belt put on incorrectly, but I'd start by having him go back over his work. Good luck.
  9. +1! You've probably "cleaned" the engine innards as much as you can/need to. Stick to straight motor oil from here on!
  10. I have a 9" C-clamp (think that's what it was called) that spans 6.5" when fully open. Fits my Legacy and wife's Maxima nicely.
  11. I seem to remember some excellent threads and discussions about fixing those clutch plates in the past--had good tips and photos. Try a search and see what you can dig up. Good luck and keep up the good work--you'll get it.
  12. Congratulations! That is great news and i can only imagine how happy you must be.
  13. +1 on the Red line 75W90ns. Have it in my '95 Legacy and it's great stuff.
  14. Yeah, hi and welcome! This is a great place to learn and share. Jump in and enjoy.
  15. Welcome aboard. You're right--it is a great forum! You obviously learned your "Subaru Love" in the right places, Colorado & PNW! (And yay for Dicks!) Enjoy!
  16. There are no guarantees. It's a machine--designed, built and operated by man. Anything can go wrong at any time . . . and sometimes does. (End of disclaimer.) That said, if there's one vehicle that I'd expect to last forever it'd probably be a 1st gen Subaru Legacy! My sons '92 is a wonderful car--and we're not even sure how many miles it actually has on it! Use common sense, evaluate carefully, give regular TLC, do the preventive maintenance, if something breaks or wears out replace it--there's no reason it can't go another 70k miles. Or 170k. Or 270k. Just my rambling $.02.
  17. Interesting. Raises some questions in my mind: Isn't the routing through the heater core part of the coolant circulation system? Is capping the heater hoses a bad thing to do? Could it cause improper readings from the ECTS and thus affect proper operation of the engine? Would it be better to loop the hose? Just some thoughts for discussion!
  18. Welcome nicolo69. Congratulations on your perseverance in fixing the transmission and getting your Subie running. Your mileage isn't as bad as you think--250 miles divided by 15 gallons is actually 16-17mpg. And it may be even better because of your tire size deviance! For sure replace the plugs (use NGK) and the wires (Subaru OEM if you can get them), new air and fuel filters, new PCV valve. Might want to clean the MAF sensor and the IACV. And check the brake sliders as grossgary said. New O2 sensor maybe? (Do you get any CEL lights?) Good luck, keep up the good work and ask lotsa' questions.
  19. Welcome aboard! Between the helpful people and the "search" function this place is a wonderful resource for Subies. Enjoy!
  20. Welcome Brian from Macungie. You've found a great place and good people here--almost as nice as the gang down at the Bear Swamp!
  21. Nice looking wagon, 1-3-2-4! Beautiful lighting in that top photo.
