Hey, don't take my comment the wrong way--I think it's great that you posted a follow-up after two years! Are you convinced that it really is the pump? Reason I ask is that I replaced my PS pump a few years back because of "noise." then a year later I noticed that the drive belt seemed narrower than normal--I think it had the wrong belt when I bought the car. Replaced it with a new belt (5 rib I believe) and things have been great. At any rate, good luck tracking it down.

IIRC the only difference between the '95 Legacy Wagon and the Outback is paint. At any rate, the '95 2.2L is a superb engine. At 125,000 miles mine, with manual tranny, feels like it is just getting nicely broken in. Of course at that age the decision will depend on the condition of the vehicle itself. There's good advice above. Good luck!

I think at this point I'd pull the IACV and give it a thorough cleaning, including the hoses. Doesn't cost anything other than time and cleaner. Did mine a couple of years ago and have had a very smooth and predictable idle since then. ('Course I replaced the coolant temperature sensor too sometime back and that solved a lot of problems, so who knows for sure?!!) Anyway, we had some threads talking about the IACV so it might be worth a search. Good luck!

Very interesting, nipper. Hope you can find the source of that.
