New Member, More cars than I can count..
Ken_B replied to Pontiac6KSTEAWD's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Yeah, I kinda stumbled accross this place looking for some info on Subaru's when I first started looking for one a few months back. Thats a real bummer about your Tribeca, almost sounds like there is some unrepaired or not quite correctly/completly repaired frame damage still there. Or they may have used some not quite up to par LKQ panels, just depends on what the insurance company instructed. Good luck with the noise, I know how hard it can be to track down odd sounds on new cars these days. -

I picked up 5 Wagon Wheels with 4 good matching tires and a newish muffler today for $100. I think I got a pretty allright deal. But just outta curiosity, what do you guys think?

Ok, so with your EMENSE amount of Subaru knowledge heres my question. My Carbed EA82 does not have power steering and has 126,371 miles on the original engine/carb. Would you recomend a new Weber swap with electronic choke for tempuratures and elevations like that?

My First Subaru, Details And Pics As Promised
Ken_B replied to Ken_B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
From the information Ive got it appears that they were not replaced, so I will be getting them done sooner than later -
I got my first Subaru yesterday, saturday. It is a 1987 DL 4x4 5 Speed Wagon. Only 126,000 Miles on it. So heres the story. The car was given to me in trade for doing about $300 in work to my stepfathers truck, he got it in trade for demolishing an old mobile home. It had been sitting for about a year, so I threw a new/used battery in it and after a little cranking it fired right up. The water pump and alternator were replaced right before it was parked. It was parked because the older couple who owned could no longer safely drive it. So in all the car runs and drives great and needs almost nothing, just a tune up and new front CV's.

How well would an electronic choked EA81 do? I will only be driving at most 3 times a week just short distances like to the store etc.....
-
Ok thanks, and just to clarify. Im not necessarily looking for a "newer" one, but I am leaning towards EFI. But who knows if the right EA82, EA81, etc... came along. Just tryin to figure out whats gonna work best and maybe broaden or restrict my seach.

Ive been having a real dilemma in my search for a Subaru GL/DL/Loyale wagon. Im going to be taking it to Laramie Wyoming, Elevation 7,200 Feet, known to reach temperatures of Minus 30 Degress Farenheit. What I want to know is do I really need EFI? Or would a carbed one work just fine, if so would it be wise to put a Weber with an electronic choke on it? So can any of you high elevation/cold temperature guys chime in? Thanks Ken

Ken_B replied to Ken_B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
One More Question, What Is The Average Life Expectancy For The Timing Belts? I've Heard All Sorts Of Numbers Pretty Much Anywhere From 30,000 Miles To 150,000 Miles. Id Like To Know If Theres Some More Accurate Numbers Than This. -

This Car Is In Pretty Nice Shape Interior And Exterior but by no means perfect. Runs Good, 30,000 miles on a rebuilt motor. 294,xxx miles on the rest. needs front brakes, tires, and rear CVs. $1750. Im gonna keep looking. The noise Changed Pitch with speed, faster=higher pitch -

Went And Looked At The Car, Has WAY More Miles Than I Am Comfortable With And The Price Was A Bit Steep. But I Came Away With One Question. Is It Normal For These Cars Transmissions To Whine/Hum In 1st Gear? -
Hopefully This Weekend I Will Be Going To Look At a 1991 Fuel Injected 4x4 Loyale Wagon 5 Speed With 30,000 Miles On A Rebuilt Motor. What Types Of Things Should I Keep In Mind To Look At Especially Close? I Mean ANYTHING, I Know Very Litle About Subarus But Hope To Change This Soon. Thanks For The Help

Im new here dont have a Subaru YET, but i will sometime next year. Im looking to get a late 80's or early 90's GL,DL,or Loyale. Joinin up here so i can learn as much about the cars as possible before i start lookin for one. I currently have a 1995 Geo Metro and a 1979 Toyota Pickup. The Toyota is going to be sold early next year so I can spend the money on getting a Subaru.
