  1. I have looked for the past 20 years for any 8 lug swap and haven't found one close enough, but i still think there are some. Maybe in the industrial/farm kine?
  2. nice work definitely a labor of Subie Love.
  3. I now have a 5 speed D/R for Free Wagon. And wife said it needs bigger tires, and bumpers! Challenge excepted. I think she has became a closet Subie junkie, and she smiles when she calls them my Stoopid Subaru. I think I'll put SS badges on Free Wagon. In her honor.
  4. No you will destroy the auto in your forester. You shouldn't tow with a dolly either. All four tires need to be off the ground. I tow my Baja on a car trailer
  5. asking for What are you'r skills? I would put a EA82 with a dual range cheap and rather easy (figuratively speaking) And I have the pieces on the shelf. If you sell post some photos of the good, bad, and ugly and the community will try to help you, or rob you Mostly help I am just speculating at this point.
  6. Still wheeling this experimental axle. I am noticing a little play from reverse to 1st but I've got about 500 miles on this. I haven't had the time to put SuperBrats axle in her. Maybe this summer.
  7. I fought my Brat for a year changing fuel filters by the dozen. Save yourself the aggravation drop the tank and clean it out. Search SubaRude for my thread on Brat.
  8. My .02$ I would use a jumper wire from battery to coil, get the number one piston to top dead center (put your thumb in the spark plug hole and crank to compression blows out) and set distributor to close. if you have fuel/air spark compression she will run.
  9. We're in the bottom of the pan handle, so in the Sawtooth mountains. East are the Rocky mountains. I have to go south to get to flat, farm land. Driving up Lost Trail pass this morning to take son snowboarding it should be a beautiful drive.
  10. This much snow here in Salmon valley is rare. Usually have to go up in the mountains to play. Hope to get the yamaha sno-mobiles out this weekend.
  11. We had a fun day yesterday sledding. It was 25 degrees and sunny. Just wanted to share. click on image click on image I didn't know the other children in the Baja they just piled in with mine. I love Idaho.
  12. They are mounted on the column You can wire an aftermarket in my old 78 had a Harley switch in it.
  13. Welcome, here is my favorite search tool for cars http://www.searchtempest.com/ west coast is always better for one to restore.
  14. Thanks the feedback. I had to get the thick gasket for the resonator at the dealer also.
  15. Family and I just got back from a trip, and the next day check engine light came on. I was working so couldn't look at it for two weeks. My wife limped it around until I could get the code read, and get parts. 100 miles on over half a tank of gas. Took Baja to AAmco they read code for free, and told me if I couldn't fix it bring it back and they would. I smiled and thanked them. P0030 was the code they gave me. Search button, Google button ect. 02 senser OK order parts fix next weekend. Called Subaru and sensor (upstream was gold(can't remember I think I passed out) and downstream was pure silver($210). Rockauto it is $102 and $60. code was for the air fuel upstream but I say replace them both if you can. I also notice I had a slight exhaust leak after the resonator. Fix went like this unplug both sensors be careful. wiggle em. Pull plastic shield There wasn't enough room to get the socket in without dropping exhaust anyway Unbolt the exhaust I used WD penetrating oil. exhaust bracket exhaust at heads drop exhaust use penetrating oil a few times to break them loose replace sensors remember to use anti seize on threads put them in the right locations notice the connectors I cleaned off the places that meet gaskets with sand paper I ordered new exhaust bolts because I usually break them reused old ones, the new were too long on the neck too short on the thread. Hang the exhaust on hanger then put head bolts then remaining exhaust all loose then tighten all bolts. I used zip ties to keep wire out of the way. Total time was about 2 hours and about $200 not including beer. I hope this will help someone with same problems, save $400 and get back on the road.
  16. RIP to the wagon. You are fortunate to be telling this story. Buy her back from insurance and use as a donor so she lives on.
  17. I think it will make a perfect tiny home. Let's see the ideas for the floor plan.
  18. Thanks Jeszek. I am buying parts and sending them home oil pump rebuild and a clutch, replacement muffler definitely
  19. I aquired this cool little wagon a little while ago From JAmacT. I thought the motor had issues and the 5 speed had no reverse But the price was right FREE. See ad here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/155635-free-86-subaru-dl-manual-5-speed-4wd-wagon/?hl=free So after towing her from Bishop to Salmon Idaho with no issues I was feeling pretty good. I pulled the dip stick and it was overfull by almost a quart and a half, maybe to quiet the terrible noise the motor was making. It was the tick of death X10. So I'm thinking junk! I always do a engine clean out before I pull it. I will give the recipe as was told to me by a career mechanic back in the early 80's. for a four quart system 2.5 oil 1.5 ATF new filter start and let idle for 30 minutes watch the temp. OK i can hear the flame throwers charging up, but I have done this to more engines than I can count with zero bad juju. Well Blue wagon seemed to love it the engine quieted down to a normal TOD. Drain oil/ATF and the sludge, and repeat, with a new filter. Drained and filled with synthetic blend I had on the shelf, TOD only at idle now. A stuck lifter or lifters, I am now thinking. The 5 speed has its own weirdness going on. NO reverse. it goes into a gear type space but no gear. While messing around I found reverse but closer to 4th. There is not a lot of slop in shifter except where reverse should be and is. But now I have a running driving (extremely loud) wagon. Push button 4 wheel works well. Needs a clutch in the worst way and front boot is gone, but axle isn't clicking loud enough for a deaf Ironworker to hear. We put 500 miles on her in the three weeks at the house. She is now in hibernation next to my vette and Electra Glide waiting for spring and a bunch of parts. and one of my son showing me he is almost big enough to get my ol Harley
  20. Pure sexy! I have always had a soft spot for the 78 wagons, drove one in Montana for many years as my winter car. Always started and a heater that would bake your eyeballs.
  21. I was able to replace the ones on the heads by loosening the bracket down by the transmission and a small pry bar.
