To restore or rat the brat...?
ironworkerboomer replied to BlindSight's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Ouch! but not the worst I've seen! just make it run like new. Reinforce the sub-frame if necessary, and drive the wheels off it. -

It was posted as a joke these are rejects from my vender so they are awaiting the scrap yard. I really didn't think anyone would want a 300 lbs door! But the motto for my company is "Crime Pays" and business is booming. -

My 14 inch tire upgrade didn't go as planned these are off a Nissan and on front they are good back spacing turn to lock both ways with room to run hand all around, the back not so much they will need 1/2 spacer to clear:mad: Searching for spacers I guess. Seat bracket cleaned up and mounted still need to paint the headrest mount. And I have a few spare cell doors to trade for any of you doomsday preparers out there, slightly used with peek door, and cuff port. Turn your shipping container into a secure dwelling local pick up only. -

Thanks for the link. I wear out the search button here! I will I will be moving from Fort Worth to a new project in a bodink town north of Houston in a few weeks and that always drains the bank account. But a Weber in the near future I hope. -

I don't think these cars could handle the horsepower of a five year old Thanks for the fast response I was looking at a rebuild kit and tear down just hate Hitachi carbs. Feel like I'm wasting time and money. -
I finally got a few days to work on my 81 Brat. Work has been ridiculous end of project always gets crazy! I pulled the ea81 had bad HG into radiator causing it to pressurize and dump fluid. So it got a degrease never had such a greasy engine! new HG and reseal. new clutch pressure plate water pump oil pump o rings new radiator belts and hoses. So now the riddle: primed oil started on the second try but will not idle. She runs smooth at 1000/1100 rpm. Oil good, water good, no vacuum leaks I can find. Idled good at 500/600 rpm before surgery. I changed fuel line filter, and filter inline (several filters in glove box tells me PO has issue with fuel) I want to Weber but have budget like everyone else. Oh and rant to the PO gasket fix in a bottle does not work DUMB*** It took five bottles of CLR and 2 hours with a steam pressure washer to clean the block!! But it looked good when done. So any suggestions?

I finally got a day off this past Sunday spent it with my boy worked on the brat, cleaned and polished my 68 shovel then went for a ride. Stopped at the Rocket-ship park and then some ice cream:grin: It was windy and too hot, but a good day off.

This has been fun spending time with Cody his momma is enjoying the quiet in the house. We have been cleaning and just de-slopped the shifter. Found a vinyl that matches the interior good enough 10$ is good enough! He is having a ball but its defiantly an exercise in patients on my part! just waiting for a few parts and we will pull the motor and let the mayhem begin. -

We got the clutch parts today! My son (he is 5) and I took out the seats to do a good cleaning on the carpet. Waiting for the weather here in Oklahoma to get better (I'm not convinced that's possible) so we can pull the engine. Not having a shop sucks! Ordered the bushings for the shifter going to thru bolt the collar to get rid of the oat meal stir when shifting. Does anyone have any ideas how to repair the dash/ Replacement parts here are few and far between. I am thinking about cutting down the splits and using a epoxy/caulking something that stays pliable and covering it with vinyl. It can't look any worse than what I got now. -

Thanks Ben. I ordered one from auto parts warehouse it got here yesterday not 12$ but installed it last night and was a direct bolt in dance banana dance. The pic in the ad is different than the part go figure I thought it may have the bracket to attach to the pedal, but no bracket was included. I was the same as the old cable. I also got the gasket set, and water pump, still waiting for the clutch n pressure plate. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Subaru/Brat/Centric/Clutch_Cable/1981/GL/4_Cyl_1-dot-8L/CE156-dot-47010.html?tlc=Engine+%26+Drivetrain&intcmpid= Do any of you have a picture of the original topper tie down brackets? I've worn out the search button without finding anything. Thanks, -
