I'D be keeping my old subie either way, i just like this one because of how stratight and rust free it is, i wouldn't swap any of the electrical parts from one to the next. Mine has power nothing, just cruise and air, and as has been eluded too, it can be a headache not only to switch them, but get them working if they arent already. I don't know if it got ran out of oil, it currently has nothing in it. And I'm not sure my boss would like me pulling the engine to look at it, but I guess I'll have to see. It would be a shame to see that a rod had been thrown on an engine that has possibly been recently rebuilt.

I will take a look when I get a chance, its pretty much screwed then as far as the engine goes if that has happened?

Okay I work for a salvage yard as some of you may know. We just recently got a 89 gl s/w in. I was drooling, I have the same thing except mine is a dl. This has power everything. Mine doesn't. The speedometer says its got 130000 miles on it. I pop the hood and it would appear it has a rebuilt engine in it. Or at least somebody pulled it and took the time to repaint the whole engine lol. In any case, we were told it has a hole in the block. I can't see anywhere where there is a hole. There was no oil in it. But pulling the dipstick I also don't see any metal shavings on it. I haven't been a member on here for long but I've read alot of posts, and I have driven my subaru HARD. I've yet to see a post where someone said they had put a hole in there block, and considering how I've driven mine, and the dozens my friends have driven, I have a hard time imagining that its possible to do that. What are your opinions. I'm seriously contemplating replacing the head on an engine that I had in before that is cracked and swapping engines. The body on everything on this one I'm looking at is absolutely A+.

Personally, I think a person should invest in seafoam stock. I haven't used it yet, but the publicity its getting on this post certainly isn't going to hurt the sales LOL.

Input on 95 legacy poss purchase
TRAVIS75 replied to TRAVIS75's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well I'm takin it home today, the body is nearly perfect. I pointed out to him that it almost looks like the harmonic balancer is wobbling but it could be an illusion. In any case there is a non constant rattle from the top or front of the engine, its more of a metallic rattle than anything, not sure...he told me to take it and investigate. The gas mileage in my 89 dl is roughly 15 to 16 mpg, which I think is pretty crappy but haven't figured out yet why its that bad, or if its supposed to be about there. I'll take it tonight and see how it does. -
Okay, so as some of you may or may not know, I've got an 89 dl wagon ea82 that for the most part I love. Right now at the lot across from our salvage yard, there is a burgundy 95 legacy, cant tell from here the exact model, but it is a wagon. They are asking 3300 for it, has 145000 miles on it its AWD. Seriously thinking about trading of my 93 sidekick towards it. Now i've never driven that generation of Subaru. I've noticed numerous posts on subes like this. I guess I'm asking what those people impressions are on the vehicle. Problem wise, benefits...so on and so forth. If they hold up as well in the woods, mountains and dirt roads as well as my current one I'd love it. Also from reading other posts, it seems that alot of you favor the ej22 seems alot of people try and swap these into their older subes, is this because its a more superior engine and if so how, thanks for the input.

Missing/ticking= seafoam?
TRAVIS75 replied to TRAVIS75's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
nope no ses light, and sorry to sound ignorant, but can the codes be checked with out a scanner, according to the chiltons book i've got, it can't or at least i can't see where in the book it says how. I know i've done it on my 93 sidekick. -
I've read so much in so many places about the use of seafoam. My current problem is that first thing in the morning or after the car (89 dl sw ea82 dual range) has sat for a few hours is that there is a hesitation when I'm in neutral and just step on the gas really fast, in fact if i do it fast enough it would almost die, in this same situation when I take off down the road it will at first bog down, if I push the clutch in and pretty much dump the clutch, the tires spin and off it goes, but it will damn near stall before I do that. Once I'm going at reach lets say a steady 45 and i'm in third gear, you can feel it miss. Once this thing is warmed up, all of this goes away. I'm sorry for the length of this post, but I want to cover all the symptoms as well as anything i've done thus far. That being said, its never done this the last 2 winters, almost exclusively in the spring and very hot weather. Its also got the infamouse subaru tick of death. Its had this tick every since I swapped this engine in. I have replaced plugs, wires cap and rotor, fuel pump oil pump with new oil pump seal, fuel filter, timing belt, timing belt tensioners. This engine smoked a ton when I put the engine in, I suspect with it being from another wrecking yard it probably had cosmolene put in it for storage, and was burning this off. It does not currently have excessive smoke cold or hot. The tick is not constant, but is never far away and changes in intensity at random. So I'm contemplating seafoaming it for poops and giggle just to see what happens. I'm hoping someone else may have some input, cuz I fear this won't accomplish much. Again, my apologies for the length of the post, but I wanted to be thorough

I just so happen to work for a wrecking yard, and the vehicle was left abandoned and we impounded it, so rather than paying the tow bill the guy is just giving us the title, I know all my boss will do with it is crush it. I can't let that happen to a running subaru, lol I just don't have the heart to see it happen. I'm not looking to restore it, parts in our area aren't that readily available. When the price of metal was high last summer lots of classic cars got crushed. So just any ideas on what others have done to their brats would be cool. And just an overall impression of the Brat as a car itself. I've currently got an 89 DL wagon. It spends alot of time in the summer and fall up in the mountains hunting and fishing.

Hey everyone, contemplating getting a 79 brat. We just impounded it and the guy is signing over the title for it so I'm think I can get it for about 100 to 200 dollars. He says all thats wrong with it is the alternator, but we know how that goes (the old "well it ran when I parked it" thing). Theres no key for it, but i think I can figure out how to by pass it. When I look at it, the belt for the alt. is about half the width it should be, and you can spin the pulley/fan blade on the alt freely- i think it just the belt. Anyways my question is...what types of things can be done to these as far as mod's. It will be my back up soob. so I can tinker with it some. Somebody already ran a dual exhaust up out of the bed next to the cab...not sure about the quality of it yet haven't really looked at it. So any input on mods or availability of parts would be appreciated
