you will need a different intake manifold, you can only get weber adaptors for the 2 barrel hitachi carbmanifold it will fit right on, get genuine subaru intake gaskets.

83 GL Exhaust Spacers (Part of the ASV system)
wallaby replied to noahkort's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
in a stock height situation, the exhaust won't clear the crossmember without the spacers. i have left them in, cut the steel pipe that connects those to the rest of the system remove all the other stuff, use the nuts from the end of the tube and a round piece of metal to block the hole in the spacer i used the "donut holes" from our punch machine. -
got the engine in, but.... there was a freeze plug missing out of the head..... every one i talked to said they wouldn't have checked that either ahh well i get to install it with the engine in the car, that should make it more interesting should be able to fill it with oil AND coolant AND have the fluids stay where they are supposed to be the Subaru dealer had to "find" 20mm freeze plugs in a bin of assorted ones no-one else had them...... on the road this weekend...!!!!

finnally got the rings to unstick.... soaked in berryman chemdip, got most of them 1 compression ring still stuck, boiled it on the BBQ for an hour or so in washing detergent, and a lot of swearing and poking got it to move... so pistons are all back in, old engine is out of the car, i am so ready to drive this thing again.... you don't realize how addictive they are.
-
thanks i work out...... sorry had to comment on that one back to reality got the block back together, crank and rods in also got old engine ready to lift out and got the stereo installed.....very important anyone have a brilliant idea for freeing up piston rings they are all good and not worn but gummed up and stuck in the grooves 2nd comp ring is the worst and i know they are fragile have had them soaking in gasoline fo a few days.....no dice hopefully back on the road this weekend
-
yea its a '64 F250 with a y-block, coolest truck ever - but its a b##ch to drive no power anything, its task is to hold a sign outside our fruit stand all summer. another week goes by...... starting to reaasemble now, at least thats a start
-
got the engine dismantled, needs bearings as well, got them ordered. had to get the mains from rockauto - my local federated couldn't get them hopefully going back together this weekend...... also working on getting the interior put back together - installing "new" stereo....

The story of my DD brat... first part documented here http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/topic/125445-time-for-upgrades-to-the-brat/?hl=%2Btime+%2Bupgrades the abriged version.... had a brat, drove the crap out of it, did a heap of upgrades, blew up the engine.... that was last summer. lack of time and money meant it has sat that way till now, i had a good core hydro lifter engine so am in the process of rebuilding that to get the brat back on the road i will keep updating as it goes, i am driving a cargo van at the moment so hopefully it goes pretty quick.....

I dont have enough problematic old vehicles so...
wallaby replied to Uberoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
you don't have to worry about it Uberoo....I sold it to someone who won't appreciate it like you would, i wouldn't have paid the price i was asking but......... but you can renew your quest and find one that is better value, they are everywhere around here the problem with buying from a fellow enthusiast is that they have a better idea of the value - or they think they will "just keep it" and drive it so you don't get those cheap deals.... keep looking..... i am doing the same....looking for a nice cheap 5 speed impreza......i have time -
Its amazing how getting good parts makes the car work so much better.... Car is running great now, drives really nice.. BUT I don't like it as much as the Brat and my wife dosen't like it much either.. so i think its for sale again, on the road with all the improvements i have done recently, will keep driving it and post an ad.

ok thanks bratman, will see what i can do and how much space we have any of the aussies want to get me part numbers? genuine? aftermarket? headlight protectors???? we can't get them here? so 02ish WRX right? brand preference?
-
so they are amber corner markers? are they still available new? forgive my ignorance at EA82's i try to stay clear of them as much as possible Shawn - yes, we fly into Brisbane, my family is about 2 hours to the west, what do you need? and i am choosing to ignore the bundy comments from the kiwis....... is XXXX still owned by you guys? will be havin a couple of those as well....
-
not sure if this is in the right forum or not..... but since i am an 80's guy i'll put it here As some of you may or may not know i am an Australian citizen living in the USA. we are travelling back home in January to see my family. Is there anything Subaru related(or not) that i could fit in a suitcase (no EJ DR....) that is available in oz and not stateside - legally(i know i could sell bundy rum here but the tax people might have issue with a couple cases..)? i wasn't into subarus in Australia so don't remember that stuff. SAAS steering wheel adaptors come to mind - i will be buying one for myself... any of the Aussie guys have good sources or info or pricing? could probably fit 5-10 of these for the trip back if there was some interest would just need to make my money back, maybe put some extra into USMB???? used/junkyard stuff would be tricky to get clean but........ post some suggestions or interest...

finnally have this car running...... seems the fuel pump i replaced 2 months ago is bad replaced under warranty, car runs great.... did not cover the pain and suffering though......
-
still having fits with this thing i think the line from the pump to the engine is bad....rusty, gummed up with junk??? i blew air though it and it ran for about 5 minutes so i ran a fuel hose from the pump up front, not a lot of space to do that once you get into it..... STILL no fuel out of it, thinking maybe my new pump is bad, have some more testing to do tonight. put new gas struts on the rear hatch - cause i whacked my head on it.... new LED interior light - trailer reversing light, looks kind of agricultural but puts out heaps of light and put the seat cover on the rear seat. but it still doesn't run.......
-
i am just a bit taller - not much room for my legs.... i am about to push this thing of a cliff........changed another fuel filter on the roadside this morning, didn't help, took the line off the fuel pump underneath, fuel ran back out - hooked it back up....have fuel. i think i will take all the connections of this afternoon and blow air though them (again) see if thats the last of it. its starting to get on my nerves....and i smell like gas all day
-
i have never seen naval jelly....i have heard about it and wondered if it came from the navy or from someones navel.........hmmmmm anyway.... cleaned the fuel tank with marine clean, not as dirty as i would have thought, car ran like a dog for about 6 miles.... now it runs great i am going to replace the fuel filter again just to be sure. hopefully its fixed and i can just drive it, just in time for winter here not as easy to drive as the Brat, the long doors make a HUGE difference, i don't know if there is any other differences but i like the brat a lot better.
-
so found the source of the problem..... tank has gunk in it and is clogging the inlet (screen????) don't know what it is - rust, varnish, general crap.... on a brighter note... got my studs on!!!! used 185/80 r13 $150 fitted
-
drove this thing for a week.... now it has a fuel supply issue, hardly made it to work one day, changed the fuel filter at lunchtime(it was only a week old) drove home, left the next morning and it started doing the same thing... changed the "other" filter (underneath) and seafoamed the carb. still has a splutter at higher RPM, will idle fine but doesen't accelerate from idle - just stalls then doesen't want to restart i am thinking its in the carb, i am torn between trying to make it work, trying my stripped hitachi again (no vacumn lines, manual choke, mech secondary) or i could wack on the weber of the brat....but then the brat would be completely dead in the water:( if it doesen't behave it might get stripped of its engine and power steering....that'll teach it a lesson - the brat is wayyy more fun:burnout:
-
if you remove the ASV, the standard pipe will be too short - will hit the crossmember(tried this) can you weld ?or know someone? cut the flanges of your old y-pipe, get a couple lengths of tube bent and weld the flanges on, or pay an exhaust shop to do it - its pretty simple , shouldn't be too many $$$$ there is also threads on here some where about the scavenging and flow, that you should decide if thats important to you or not. I am planning on doing this for my Brat but just have to settle on sizes and stuff....still doing some research
-
interested...but we are sellin' punkins like crazy at this time of year as well as working full time in town, weekends is when i get reintroduced to my wife and kid.... i will probably be in moscow on saturday for the farmers market - not in a soob... would love to meet the locals....maybe in winter..... have fun getting your car back on the road:headbang:
-
drove it to work today..... drives pretty well....for a stock standard EA81 got the seats done, not great but its done enough for now would like to have a bit more legroom but not sure how that will happen didn't realize how small these things are, the bigger doors on the BRAT are really nice. still needs a bath and a cut & polish and a vacumn
-
got a little more done, removed the muffler and put staight pipe to the back finished scrapping the flaky stuff off the headliner with a toothbrush, didn't take as long as you would think. then painted it with color coat in "warm grey".....did the console as well vacumned up all the flaky stuff from the carpet - got 80% done and my shop vac bit the dust..... (smoke and sparks - i think its dead) installed the passenger seat, got to do the driver seat and i'll be on the road
