1st annual Subaru Brat Meet Washington State
wallaby replied to one eye's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
winter means kind of cold for camping, are there hotels in ellensburg? maybe look at possible locations/venues then the dates might clear up dogs would be another consideration - wonder if all 3 would fit in the brat.....? spring is kind of busy for me but the weather would be nicer i"m interested if the dates line up for me - would be good to meet everyone -
^ +1 about tire pressure if you get stuck - let 'em down more just enough to hold them on the rims low range shouldn't matter its about being in the power band but not spinning wheels - dig in soobs don't have much power anyway so you won't have to worry about that enjoy!!! sand is the most fun you can have - very hard to do body damage:banana:

thats right the air has never come out of there if you want to replace the speaker with a better one you can get to it by removing the glovebox and possibly the junk tray under it - pretty easy just screws and the you can get to the speaker
-
if you want something tough and i mean living on the back of a pickup or truck in extreme conditions.... these are the only one people on the road in australia use http://www.fabertoolboxes.com.au/ stand up to years of use/abuse i may be selling them in the usa soon probly a little extreme for you garage though.......

now my $0.02.....(you asked for it) snorkels are NOT designed for water crossings think about it, the engine will go under before the snorkel they can help if you set up the vehicle with other preparations for deep water crossings i have heard a lot of horror stories of people thinking that if they have a snorkel they can go though water (think hydrolock) BUT snorkels are excellent for getting cooler, cleaner air into your engine if you drive in a dusty environment, they take the cleaner air from the top of the windscreen - thats why rally cars have them. also great if you do a lot of convoy type drives in a club of something - always in the dust..... i would recommend a snorkel of any kind for a off road vehicle - anything is better than nothing. the best would be a bowl type precleaner on the top - like a tractor then the air would be even cleaner before it got to the air filter PVC or ABS works great and can look OK on an off roader Stainless pipe looks wicked but is expensive Safari is not the only company to make snorkels either - check all the Australian 4x4 stores

good to see some pictures are you gonna send pics of the gutted legacy to the PO? I'm sure she'd love to see what happened to it... good luck
-
Do some searches - there is a few posts about backpressure and cylinder scavenging and that kind of stuff. i just removed the insides of my cat and left it in place - seems to work fine with a standard pipe to the rear axle then a 2" x 24" hotdog(cherry bomb) not loud but a better sound

help my subie dies and i dont know why!
wallaby replied to bicycle_ben's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
watching this thread with interest....... my 82 brat died and won't start..... will continue watching -
it will flake of in huge slabs used to work in that field - did a boat trailer once thought we did it right but came back a few months later with huge areas peeling off make sure you get all the rust and oil/grease of the surface - wire or nylon brush on an angle grinder is good - also need a kind of rough surface for the stuf to stick to. we had to scuff the paint in the truck beds to make the stuff stick.

85 ea82 sedan - what parts will fit
wallaby replied to wallaby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
thanks Bill so any 23 spline stub shaft will work? like the ones from my 4 speed i may go though the gearbox anyway - brgs, seals etc i can't see the sticker on the diff to see if it has LSD but i would need to put in the diff anyway if it is a 3.7 i'll have a 3.9 right? -
to change the stubs in the trans..... do you need stubs from another 5 speed? is it possible to use stubs from a ea81 S/R 4 speed(no good for anything else)
-
if you want it to be any good you need the spray on stuff. i have seen it done on a whole pickup before - surface prep is super important - can't be stressed enough. have fun

85 ea82 sedan - what parts will fit
wallaby replied to wallaby's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so if it has a 3.9 diff ratio it will have 23 spline axles - or is the fact that it is a turbo confirm it will have 25 spline axles? is there a way to confirm this? the next question i guess is if it is no good to me is it useful for anyone else for parts? -
may be able to buy an 85 turbo dual range sedan at the right price will go look at it tomorrow what i want to know is - how much of the stuff can i use on my brat from my seaches i have found that the dual range 5 speed has different axle stubs and also may have a higher final drive ratio and possibly a higher low range - this would not be an issue as this brat is mostly street or gravel and is my DD - not a trail rig will the axle stubs from my S/R 4 speed fit in the 5 speed? it should have rear discs ? that i can use on my brat fairly easily... the engine is dead but can i use stuff like power steering, a/c(thats a stretch)? what about fuel delivery? does the turbo engine use a fuel injection system? could it be adapted to my ea81 like a n/a SPFI? i will continue seaching as there is a heap of info on here on a side note i am going back to Aust for a holiday is ther anything i should sqeeze into my suitcase for the trip home (other than a bullbar, some 14" speedies etc) thanks in advance

1989 subaru gl 10 vent visor?
wallaby replied to mcttexan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Try a aftermarket truck shop - one that sells bedliners, nerf bars etc brands wound be auto ventshade (AVS) or weathershield but those shops have access to databases for cars as well as pickups
