  1. This is Donny's Brother in law, Dennis, I have updated info on Donny, Tuesday, Nov. 29th at 12:00 noon, he is checking in at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He has surgery scheduled for the 30th, (it's the first of 2) and may have to stay upwards of a week. He may be needing a place to stay Monday the 28th, and maybe some nights during the week that he is in Seattle. If anybody could spare a couple of beds to help him and his brother out for a little bit of time, he would be so grateful. He asked me to pass on his phone number for anyone that could help out, or just to lend suppot. 406-207-6814 Thank you
  2. I hope this isn't a repeat message... Hello Seattleites - This is Donny's girlfriend. He got in a serious accident at work in Missoula, MT. Both his ankles are badly broken and he may need surgery in Seattle this week. He asked me to post this in the hopes that some of you with whom he has had contact in the past might get in touch. He really is in need of a little moral support, any measure would be much appreciated. Thanks much, Kate (Laramie, WY)
  3. Alright, i finally made it back to this thread....Well, instead of sleeping when i got here, i drove around for a while to check out the town. I found a job 4 hours after i drove into town...I think that is a new record for me. Finding a house proved to be a lot more difficult. I get to move into my new place 2 weeks to the day of me getting here. I have been camping since getting here, and i am getting pretty sick of it. my back is killing me from sleeping on the ground....oh well, i will get over it. I got my phone # updated to a montana number, so here it is 1-406-207-6814 feel free to call to reconnect, or hook up for the first time here in montana. Glenn....The RX is running now. It took me like 6 hours to put in the new tranny and rear end and axles. I took it for a 3 block test drive....fine tuned for about 10 minutes, and then drove it to my hometown 3 hours away without too many problems. I forgot to put the 2 nuts on the rear diff that attach it to the diff hanger....no damage, just made the car act a little funny....lol anyway, i got to run. talk to you all soon harpua
  4. Yea, this fire is a big deal here....can't see from all the smoke...can taste how thick it is... Hopefully the rain we are getting right now will put the fire down a bit...
  5. haha, now you tell me...lol Its all good....from the looks of it, missoula is booming pretty good as well. I don't think i will have too much trouble finding work. All it takes is tool bags full of tools, a car, and a drivers license....its worked every time. Well, i won't be back to this thread for a day or too, so treat it well.... remember, give a call....contacts are a great thing to have in a new place. harpua
  6. Well i made it to missoula finally. I happened accross the public library, so i thought i would drop a line and let you all know that i made it. I know there are a couple of people in missoula that frequent the board, so feel free to give me a call. my number is 1-307-761-0503 I am looking for a house and work, so if anyone has any leads, please let me know. I build houses, but if it pays enough, i will do anything (or pretty close to anything) Anyway, i need to go find a tree to sleep under...been awake for more than 24 hours....need sleep. later harpua
  7. nope, i have moved from laramie....on my way to missoula montana. I did want to see your RX before i left, but it looks like i will have to see it another time.....
  8. hey, just found this thread.... I called because i was in SLC trying to collect some parts to fix my RX. I was having some major trouble, and was looking for some help. Everything ended up working out, and i actually found a LSD for 75 bucks on top of all the parts that i needed. The 3.7 to 3.9 swap went good. Everything fit like it was made for the RX, and added alot of pep to the car. Anyway, sorry for worrying anyone...I was starting to panic because i was running out of options quick. thanks for following up harpua
  9. Alright....I did it. And this is what i learned.... A tranny is not a light object. Tends to not want to be picked up, come out, be put in, or be manhandled in anyway shape or form. The sun is hot...Fingers and self calming techniques stop working with too much sun and a lack of water. The more you swear and cuss and tell a car that you will laugh as you roll it off of a cliff, the more things go your way. and last but not least...if you don't put in the two nuts that hold the rear end to the diff hanger...funny things happen...people honk and flash their lights at you. (i think the lack of water and too much sun heighten stupidity) But seriously, the swap went way easier than i thought it would. I got the parts mentioned above, and everything went smooth as karma would let. The gear change is for the better i think. I didn't loose any highway speed that i use, and the bottom end is much better than with the 3.7 i also found a LSD rear diff at the junk yard for a very cheap price. can't complain one bit about that. So the RX is on the road once again....I didn't think i would ever say this, but i like driving my run down RX more than my Impreza....who would have thought. If any of you have any questions, post them up....it is all fresh in my mind, so i might have some input... take it easy....im going to bed harpua
  10. haha....just what i need before a long drive to SLC...beer. lol i will try to run over there, but can't make any promises. I have a lot to do still, and so little time.
  11. styles, are you feeling a little seperation anxiety? just kidding man. I plan on making a trip over that way pretty soon. I have a friend in Bend that is going to be having a baby by the end of the summer, so i will have to go visit her new addition....and portland is just a little bit out of the way, i can swing that... You might also think about getting your RX wagon going good enough to bring it to missoula for a visit.(or your wannabe RX coupe) I am sure we can find some sort of trouble to get into.... anyway keep in touch man...you got my number harpua
  12. well, i am hitting the road once again. I will be spending a week in the Salt Lake City area to fix my RX and to greet my little bro who is coming home from Tailand. Then i will be spending a couple more weeks in Afton Wyoming for a little family reunion. After that, I will go make my home in Missoula Montana. I am very excited about the move....i have heard very little that is bad about Missoula....and a lot that is good. hopes.....more subarus of course(like those of the lifted variety) Rally Crosses in Montana!!! My fingers are crossed. Good paying job for a little while, then hopfully i can build my own construction company and work my way into a home that i can call my very own. All while taking care of my two boys...wouldn't have it any other way.... regrets.....wish i would have meet more of the subaru folk in this area (laramie). wish i would have bucked up and drove to the subaru show (lame) (i will learn sooner or later) Well, i just thought i would let anyone who cares know what i am up to. Feel free to drop me an email if you want to meet up during my travels harpua_bend@msn.com Take it easy everyone....hope i am back on here soon. donny
  13. Alright, so i am going to swap my tranny, rear end, driveline, and axles (tranny took a dump on me in december) from the RX AWD 3.7 drivetrain to the GL dual range 4WD 3.9 drivetrain. 1) the biggest question i have is: Will the 3.9 axles fit into the hubs of the RX without modification, after the 3.9 tranny and rear end are in the car? 2) Will i need to snag the tranny cross member from the parts car or will the RX crossmember bolt up to the 3.9 tranny? 3) Will i have to modify the driveline to fit inbetween the 3.9 tranny and rear end? (I am almost sure this is a no because the wheel base is the same between the RX and GLs) 4) Is there going to be any problems with the turbo clutch pack/flywheel fitting in with the 3.9 tranny? 5)and last but not least: Is there anyone in the Salt Lake City (more specifically Kamas) area that wants to get their hands dirty on the 23-27? Well, i hope that covers all that i needed. Feel free to add in comments, tips and tricks to the thread.... Hopefully this swap will go fairly easily....yea right....like anything is easy in my life...lol thanks in advance for any and all help...
  14. thanks for the idea corky...do you think my wagon will have the plug? I guess wagons and sedans can't be that much different as far as that is concerned.... I thought that when i heard of this problem before, something was said about the rain gutters being plugged or crap had just diverted the path of runoff...so water was able to leak into the car somehow. My rear hatch door seals are in perfect condition, so i don't see how water could be leaking in through there. and i havn't found any water dammage from the roof of the car or the side walls....i guess it could be leaking behind the interior plastic.... i don't know, maybe i will take it to the dealership on this one....it feels a whole lot like and electrical gremlin that is just too much of a hassle to mess with.... and a realization has just been hit....my rear wiper stopped working about 2 months ago....how much you want to bet that these problems are related...water leaking in through the back hatch past the wiper motor into the spare tire well...... hope i am on the right track.... thanks for the help harpua
  15. hey, i have an issue that i need to get fixed asap. I have a 1996 impreza outback sport. I pulled my spare tire out of its hiding spot in the back hatch of the car. I found the spare to be wet, and when i went to investigate further, i found about 3 or 4 inches of water in the spare tire well. I havn't spilled water, or left my windows open in the rain. I have heard of this problem before, but i don't know the cause or repair for it. if anyone has any info, please let me know. I don't really like the idea of a hot tub in the back of my Impreza. thanks for your time harpua
  16. It is a 1986 3-door turbo coupe with a 5 speed full time 4wd manual tranny... All i want to know is, what is it badged as if it doesn't say RX....and, what are you doing with your other 3-door? I think you should just give it to me.....cause i am cooler than any of the other people that want it for free.... hope i am right on guessing the car....take it easy
  17. i will definatly be hitting some of you guys up to hang out. I am really liking Laramie...super chill and fun. Sweet82...sorry i had to run...i meant to give you a call before i left. The tranny on my RX took a dump on me 2 days after we got done messing with the turbo...oh well, thats how it goes. I am still searching for an RX tranny, but i may just try to mod in a GL dual range tranny. I will get more juice on the low end, and would be funner for Rally X. I heard that there is a group of new gen guys that meet every sunday afternoon in Denver...we should band up and go represent.... anyway, i am looking forward to my time in Laramie, and dreaming about my time in missoula....can't wait. So i will talk to you guys later....
  18. ok, i have left Salt Lake City and i am now in Laramie Wyoming for a few months. I know there are a couple of you guys here, so i will try to get in touch with you. When i am done in Laramie, i am going to be moving to Missoula Montana. Hopefully i will like it enough to stay there for more than 6 months... Anyway, take a minute and say hi, i am starting to miss all the cool people from the message board. Oh yea, i have a new subaru, a 96 Impreza Outback....fun little car, but I miss my RX. Can't wait to get a tranny in her. Well, take it easy everyone, feel free to email me at harpua_bend@msn.com take it easy
  19. SUCCESS!!! This has been the best peice of message board knowledge that i have come accross to date. I went and picked up the 7/16-14 tap, new studs and nuts...lock washers, and locktite, installed it all, and now my turbo works again. I noticed that i was able to torque everything down much tighter, so hopefully it will hold this time. I was starting to get frustrated after the 5th time in 4 months having to put in new gaskets.... run studs not bolts....simple as that.
  20. One of the benefits of a campout in Bend might be that it would give all the different convoys to meet up and get a little organized for a mass haul up into hood river. Bend to Hood River would be a nice mellow cruise for everyone to enjoy. Yea people can get up to Hood River by themselves, or in smaller convoys, but it would just be cool to get a whole bunch of people cruising together.... just my 2 cents.... by the way, i will be in bend meeting whoever else wants to meet there.
  21. i am going to be there for sure...see you in the morning brad
  22. cool, thanks man. If you have a digi camera, pics would rock....alot can be done with fiberglass and epoxy....
  23. Did that car have all of the side skirts and stuff? if so, i am very interested in them. There should be a skirt on each side, front and rear.... let me know what you find out on it...like price and condition and stuff...thanks
  24. calm down Styles....i know you are italian, but you don't have to get all mafia on me...
  25. Zap, you are going to be hard pressed to get styles back in front of people...that kid takes and gives himself more crap than i have ever seen....and he doesn't even miss a beat when it happens. Just don't scratch the paint on his car..... Actually zap, i have some info that might help you out here...but it will cost you...or it will cost styles to make me keep my mouth shut....
