  1. My 78 Brat does have struts.... Or do you mean they just aren't the same as a later Brat?? What do you mean by "re-clock" the torsion bars? Looks like my rear suspension is just 2 simple struts, with zero adjusatability whatsoever. I was considering just cutting the front springs..... I know... not optimal, and it decreases strut life..... but the car isn't going to be driven much, and I'm only looking at cutting 1-inch or so out.
  2. I decided on the wheel/tire combo..... did the measurements last night with a straight edge and a tape measure. 15x8..... zero offset (4 in and 4 out) 225 / 50 / 15 tire Should clear everything inside, as the stockers go about 4.5 in Outward it should line up just right with the outside of the fenders... it'll make a nice stance. Might hqave to massage them a bit... but I shouldn't have to cut anything.
  3. Kinda like the street look.... my original plan was to lower the brat, but after closer inspection of the rear struts, I have no idea how I'd do it. I found some 15x8s that I really like, with a 4-inch offset... but I'm worried they will stick out too far, and rub the fenders on turns.
  4. I thought they we just painted stockers..... still like the stance though. Guesses?
  5. Obviously these are the 13x5.5 wheels...... but I REALLY like the stance of this picture I found. I'm going with a 15x7..... but I need to find a tire with the same size outer diameter of this tire.... so that the stance and the fender spacing is the same. anyone wanna take a guess what size tires these are??
  6. Those were good directions... 14mm drill bit.... 13.8 if possible...... cool No need to line up a 6lug wheel... I have templates for every 4, 5, and 6 lug pattern you can think of. Also have a drill press
  7. So any luck on getting that drill bit size? Wheel studs are easy... and I can always order them..... but I certainly don't want to drill the wrong size, you know?
  8. I'm about to do the 6-lug conversion, and I had a few questions before I begin. I already have the template to drill. What size drill bit do I need to buy? What are the specs on the oem wheel studs? length, thread pattern, etc. Obviously I have to buy a few more, and I'd like to have all the parts ready to go before I even begin, you know? Obviously I can't mess this up, so exact specifics are greatly appreciated Thanks!
  9. ^^^^ Thank you..... that's exactly what I was looking for. I like the "sticking out" look... that's kinda what I'm going for. I've noticed a lack of available low-profile tires for 15' whells, so I think I'm going to go with a 16x8, with a 4.25 offset..... and a 235/40 tire. You think there will be any problems with the tire hitting the front corner of the fenders during turns?... If so, might need to go with a 16x7 with a 215 tire. Thoughts?
  10. Sooo.... say a 15x8.... with a 4-inch offset... or even a 4.25-inch offset........ that'll work???
  11. Actually, I'm going to go lower with it... not significantly, but just enough to set the fenders down lower on the tires. I'm going with the gloss black steelie nascar-style wheels..... just need to find the right size and backspacing. I'm also going to do the 6x5.5 lug conversion for more available wheels. Looking at going with a 15 or 16 x 8.... maybe x7... not 100% sure. The "theme" I'm going with for the car is low... flat black paint, and gloss black trim (wheels, grill, etc) Don't mind if they stick out a bit.... that's the look I'm going for.... but I don't want to run into clearance problems on the inside of the wheel. I don't mind rolling the fenders, or even trimming them... but I certainly don't want to have to relocate suspension or build wheel tubs, you know? With that, that site didn't have the backspacing measurements that would be acceptable.... any ideas?
  12. What is the offset? mm? inches? Looking at suitable wheels, also looking at the 6-lug conversion... just dont want to scrape on the insides of the fenders or the suspension. Is there a rule of thumb on a magic offset number to not go past?
  13. I would Just FYI.... the meet is tomorrow.... over 90 confirmed attendees, and I'm expecting 120-130 cars... including 3 Cobb cars and 3 rallisportdirect cars.
  14. We are officially at 75 confirmed attendees.... that's 6 more than last year, and the number is still rising With 69 confirmed attendees last year and 93 cars..... you do the math for this year

  16. That's right folks, we're doing it again! Many of you remember the 93-car Mega-Subie-extravaganza last year. This year will be even better! This meet is in celebration of Mark Miller Subaru's "Do Good, Feel Good" event. For all cars purchased this month, Mark Miller will be donating $150 to the charity of your choice. Please see the Mark Miller website for more details: Mark Miller Subaru | New Subaru dealership in Salt Lake City, UT 84115 Also, anyone who refers a customer to Mark Miller Subaru that ends up purchasing a car will get a $50 Visa gift card! (or you can just use my name ) Just FYI, I went to over 12 dealerships in both St. Louis and SLC to find a good deal on the Tribeca - Mark Miller beat the best deal we could find, by nearly $2000. (That's why I asked them to host this last year, and this year, they are nice enough to do it again!) The date is set - Saturday, June 20th from 12:00 - 3:00 at Mark Miller Subaru: 3734 S State St, Salt Lake City, UT ***The Utah Food Bank will be present accepting non-perishable items (Please be generous) ***Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, and soft drinks will be provided! ***Mark Miller Subaru will be giving away lots of cool T-shirts again! (200 of them - up from 90 last year!) ***SLCSUBARU.COM stickers will be available for purchase (Steve is the MAN!) ***There will be an extremely well-planned (unlike last year) MEGA-SUBIE CRUISE immediately following the meet. ***And for the hard-core Subaphiles that are still standing.. usually Beer + Wings at Hooters to close out the day! Last year, both COBB and RALLYSPORTDIRECT showed up with their cars. We had guys drive up from Vegas, Colorado, California and even a couple EVOs from Kansas city! If you missed it last year, DO NOT miss it this year. Call in sick.... Call in DEAD.... who cares? The economy sucks anyway! Just be there - Support your local Subaru community, and more importantly, help support those that can't support themselves by donating your non-perishable items to the Utah food bank. Bring your friends, wives, husbands, kids, girlfriends, boyfriends, mistresses, booty-calls, sugar daddies, sugar mommas, and gay transvestite lovers... whatever, bring them all THE RULES: 1. The meet starts at 12:00 noon. Do NOT show any earlier that 11:45 - Mark Miller needs time to clear the lot. 2. Due to limited space, there are only approximately 100 parking spots available. Overflow parking will be made available, but the first 100 spots are on a first come, first serve basis. 3. T-shirts are free, but limited to one per person (200 total). To obtain a T-shirt, please donate a minimum of two non-perishable items to the Utah food bank. Two is the minimum (per person) to obtain a T-shirt, but please donate as much as you can. 4. Reserved spots will be made available to SLCSUBARU.COM "Ride of the month" winners, All confirmed Vendor cars (Cobb, Rallysport, etc), and SLCSUBARU.com volunteers that arrive early to help set up/direct parking/cook/etc. To confirm attendance and reserve your parking spot, please respond in this thread:SLCSUBARU :: View topic - 2ND ANNUAL SLCSUBARU.COM/MARK MILLER SUBARU BBQ BASH JUNE 20 Failure to provide confirmation of attendance on the SLCSUBARU.com website will not guarantee you a parking spot. 5. Everyone is welcome to attend (even non-Subies, but you should trade in your heap while you're there), but due to limited space availability, only Subaru cars will be allowed in the first 100 parking spots. If you buy a car that day, and there's no spots left... you can have my spot 6. Please be respectful of other people's cars - Last year my wife almost smacked the B-Jesus out of some woman that used her Tribeca as a park bench – LOL You know, pick up your trash, pocket your cigarette butts, etc…. just be respectful… we’re guests!! I will do my best to try and keep track of everyone that is coming by monitoring all the Subie enthusiast sites, but if you aren't already a member, I encourage you to create your own account on SLCSUBARU.com - It's FREE! SEE YOU THERE!!!!! --Matt
  17. I'd like to go ahead and revive this thread..... perhaps anyone has pics or useful info on a DOHC EJ swap into a Gen 1 Brat? I know it's been done... I don't think anyone that's done it has read this thread though
  18. Greetings, Forgive my relative ignorance, I'm posting a question for a friend that just called me. He;s doing an engine + tranny swap in a 90s Legacy.... got the engine in....... and he's installing the tranny...... and it "bottoms out" before the bellhousing mates up with the block. I've read about this before.... all the bolt holes appear to match up... except the shaft is too long. Isn't there an adapter plate for that? Not even really an "adapter"... but more of a "spacer"???? I could be crazy.... bit I SWEAR I've heard about something like that. Anyone have a good link where you can purchase one? Thanks in advance. --M
  19. Yea... you're right. It'd be cool, but not worth all the fabrication, just for a "cool" motor. I'll keep an eye out for a good motor/tranny out of a wrecked WRX. Obviously the rear diff will have to match....Still need to research exactly what I'm going to do about the stubs though.... even if I converted to a WRX hub/brake assembly, the stubs would be too long... and I think the splines on the stock stubs won't match up with a WRX tranny and rear diff. I think I read somewhere there's a 16 vs. 18 spline difference? Oh yea... and then there's the issue of squeezing a DOHC motor into a gen1 brat... still looking for detailed pics of exactly what, and how much, was cut out of the frame.
  20. Ahh... ok, I wasn;t aware that you had the dual range drivetrain.... that makes a lot of sense. Still researching what will work/fit. Thanks for the info!
  21. I must admit, I'm pretty interested in your setup... not just the placement of the DOHC, but your choice of transmissions, rear diff, and how you were able to mate them (axles) up with what appears (based on your avatar) to be the stock hubs/wheels. Do you have about 20,000 hours of custom metal fabrication in that thing... or did the drivetrain work out with very little "issues"??
  22. Does it get in the way of the turbo..... or of the downpipe? The reason I wanted to go with that particular motor is primarily because you just don't see them very often. The "rareness - cool" factor... thats all. With that though.... that's good info.... that's why I'm here.... make my mistakes now.... before it costs a lot of $$ to learn the hard way.
  23. Awesome..... thank you. It's hard to tell..... is there any part of the back side of the head tapping on the frame? It looks REALLY close...... Also, did you have to make any modifications to the mounts? Or was it simply a drop-in affair once the framerails were cut? I'm 100% serious about using a twin-turbo JDM legacy motor in my Brat. Just want to make sure I do ALL the research beforehand. Sorry... newb here (to this forum).... I know I might have found this with a search..... but I've just been told that a DOHC motor will not fit under any circumstances, kinda got tired of hearing it, you know?
