  1. I found some chrome 6 bolt 14x7 rims and had 195/70-14 tires put on them. I figured they would look 'ok'. I bolted them to the RS to make it a little more driveable on the pavement. I can go to full lock, have better acceleration and finally shed an annoying vibration. Unfortunately, the chrome rims look truly hideous on the car. My GF laughed her self silly when she saw them. No I will not attach a picture. The RS is now pouting like a kid with a bad haircut. I may only drive it at night.
  2. It seems that the 12" plate is neither an ej22 nor an ej25. The guys at Subaru Stuff say there was some weird transmission/torque converter mid 1990 for the turbo (ej22) cars that was only used for a year or a year and a half, and no, they didn't have one. This is clearly not the transmission this car came with. So rather than try to run down some retarded plate from an orphan combination that no one has ever heard of, (including 1st Subaru and Kendall Subaru, Lewiston, Id) it was simpler to just get a common ej22 torque converter that fits the dmn plate I bought and pull the uncommon one. So, I have a '90 1/2 4eat connecting to my engine through a 2013 11 1/2" drive plate hooked to a '99 Impreza torque converter bolted to a '96 Outback 2.2. Umm yeah, we'll see if it all plays nice. I would be curious what Bratman finds when he checks his.
  3. I have noticed that there are 'torque converter repair sleeves' as well as the 'input shaft repair sleeves'? How would someone install one of those? I can see sleeving something if you are able to machine it first. But there is no real info on the parts, just that they exist.
  4. I measured it this morning, it is 12" across. The new ones are 11.5" across. I called around and I may have one in Hayden Idaho at the 'Subaru Stuff' store. My GF is driving up tomorrow while I am at work. The man I spoke to said he had quite a few of them in different diameters. This can't be the original transmission. And the plate doesnt make sense to anyone. If that doesnt work than I'll be in touch Ivan!
  5. Neither of which are the right part for the 1990, they are about 10-12mm smaller in diameter and the bolt holes for the convertor don't line up, this is turning into a PITA.
  6. cleaned the 'mud weights' out of the inside of my front rims, had the tires re-balanced and a stem leak fixed on the RS, also seems the oil leaks are finally gone after massaging the oil pan bolt holes pulled the weakening engine out of the legacy and have cleaned up used one on the engine stand to go back in moving the single port Y pipe over to the formerlly dual port car
  7. Looked at my vin, the RS does not have the digits indicated in the previous post in the 7th position. Tend to believe my car is correct over the 7th position info. Re: 'RX aesthetic package' not really tracking that one, the RS had the RX spoiler and chin dam, but not the side skirting. kind of my uninformed opinion they simply used up what was left after the RX line shut down little humor, SuperBrat hooked me up with black side skirts and the rear valence skirting (which actually came from Gpilot in Montana) the humor is I will probably put it on the lifted car, LMAO because that will help the aeordynamic... not
  8. The new non-turbo drive plate is 12332AA032, the turbo version is 12332AA042
  9. 2 years ago I bought an EJ20 long block from a local guy and we have run it ever since under the ej22 obd1 manifold and sensors of a 1990 Legacy L wagon. I had some problems recently and just happen to have another ej22 to put back in. (The thing I find a little weird is the ej20 is a SOHC n/a non turbo) When the original EJ22 passed away, I found the drive plate stress cracked around the doubler under the crank bolts. Now when I have removed this one, I find it is almost completely sheared around the bolts. It had started to move and was not long to spin the center out of the drive plate. The only thing I can think of is that since the car tends to creep after shut down, there is an impact when the movement of the running gear meets the now stopped engine plate. It is also possible the used plate I put back in had already stress cracked but I did not see it with the naked eye on the re-install. Probably wasn't hella thourough when I was switching the engine in the snow covered gravel parking lot 2 winters back. Good times. I ordered a new drive plate from Subaru, there seems to have been a part number change where the old number has been superceded by a new one. I am hoping that there was a re-design of the plate and it is a little sturdier. Does the early EJ eat these for snacks or am I just special?
  10. Yes, I agree/realize that it is not 'valuable' in many senses of the word. It may be headed back to play toy status after the WCSS 16 it's hard not to make crazy plans. Seems like I learn something new every time I go to one of those. I may have found a 3 dr coupe to give me fresh metal, hoping they get back to me. I have really enjoyed the conversation this started, I read all of it with great interest to date and appreciated insight into Australia and New Zealand as well as the vin info. Good stuff.
  11. This would be a great write up, I don't know the specifics of the factory manual. Years, models, publication date... of where I'd find a 25+ year old service manual. LOL Miles, I could do a write up on what not to do. My write up would be the first two-three common mistakes followed by a copy of the invoice from the local transmission shop. (making fun of myself here)
  12. 1. flowmastered should have been included in the polite link to craigslist choice 2. have a wrecked XT 3. LMAO... yep, the Edsel of Subaru's, I know it isn't valuable, just obscure 4. Could be global, will have to read her email
  13. So my dad posed a question to me, 'how many people do you suppose have an RX and an RS?'. This got me to thinking about how many (1990) RS were out there. I have seen one, other than mine. I had read on Wikipedia that there were 2600 RX made. This turns out to not be true. For some strange reason, LadyLegacy seems to have the ear of God, or at least Subaru of North America. She has written them questions and they actually answer within a few days. (Not even going to bother trying that with Chevrolet.) She asked them how many 1988 RX were made, they replied that approximately 8 thousand were built, when she asked how many 1990 RS were built, they replied 'approximately 500'. Well poop. I adore my RX so much I have found a piece here and a piece there to bring it back from the grave it was headed for. I haven't done anything totally stupid with it. Yes, I rigged an ej205 intercooler. The PO left a ginormous ugly hole cut in the hood, so I did mount a scoop to feed the intercooler too... it has EJ seats in it, but I have the worn out originals. My point being I can unbolt any changes and I haven't made irrevocable moves. The RS was a hand me down near the end of it's service life. The engine still ran but it was headed to a full overhaul. It had a long list of things that were simply worn out and needing replacement. I removed the SR5 and put in a DR5. It got lifted. It got rear disc and the 6 bolt. XT seats etc. etc. now it is getting very very rusty. I was perfectly happy to EJ this, I have been banking parts to do the swap. Now I find out they made 500? Yes it was an SR5, yes it does not have all the features of the RX, (no it does not have an LSD). Yes it was most likely an after thought for pieces still in the pipeline when the RX was discontinued... and it's so obscure no one really pays much attention to it. No it's not valuable in any real way... uh, which older Suubie is? I can't help but think I need to set it back down and NOT mod the crap out of it. I can't help but feel that maybe as much as I love the coupe style and the lifted coupe's absurdly aggressive look that maybe I need to find something else to mod and try to bring this one back from the end of the line. (one pic shows ONLY other RS I have ever seen, Super Brats? mine is the Rio Red one)
  14. I see the line was twisted during installation and there is a pre-load on it. However, I cannot comment on the strut position. I am hopeful someone will be along shortly for that.
  15. Which one? I think there were three versions of the dealer cruise, I have a version on the RS.
  16. Biggest problem I had was people taking money to make a harness for me and never doing it, even sent a harness.
  17. Oh that sucks, no I haven't. My daughter was injured by hers though. But I have to say it was a lot better than the alternative in her case. Glad you're okay.
  18. I have Spring fever and I am having some fun with my Subies. I know it's pretty early to talk WCSS... what's the feeling on it?
  19. There is a connection, you say you got a WRX then NED died? Poor NED sounds heartbroken...
  20. Got my RS REALLY muddy proving it can go where heavy trucks can't. Found the electrical fault in the RX that had it down all winter and fixed it's speedometer.
  21. It did hit me as a 'K' car, however, I like it very much and don't mean that to be a harsh comment. With the top down this would've been cool as ####. +1
  22. Cool! We live south but will be there to have some fun and hang out.
