I bought an RX for parts 5 years ago for $500 bucks. I cleaned up the essentials and have been using it as a daily driver almost non stop. So... dunno. Luck of the draw? Think it just depends on the particular car and how it was used, and what shape it's in. JUST like any other car.

Electric windows not working
Txakura replied to Naked Buell's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I used to have an entry in the repair manual section with pictures. I went through this system and found that the main power and the main ground are prone to breaking. Check inside the rubber flex section that protects the wiring in the hinge gap from the body to the door, they chaff on the driver door cutout. This creates interesting symptoms that will have you running all over, the wires can be viewed by pulling back the flex boot between the door and body in the hinge area. You may need an inspection mirror and flashlight. Look to the point where the wires cross that nice sharp edge of the hole in the driver door. I repaired mine by removing the door, (the wiring unplugs inside the driver kick panel and can be fished out through the hole in the body), when it was all off, I spliced new sections inside the door so that fresh wire ran through the door gap and the splice was not in a an area that would flex or move. Door removal isn't necessary, I had time and a good work space. Since then I have seen another repair where the owner simply ran two new wires under the existing flex boot into the door. He spliced them under the kick panel, and inside the door so that only fresh wire was exposed and the splices were out of harms way. IIRC with my ground wire sheared, the passenger side was grounding through the master panel in the driver door and only the passenger side worked. If your power wire was sheared, nothing would work at all.\ Good luck, post a follow up when you find it. -

West Coast Subaru Show 15!
Txakura replied to WCSS's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
We had a great time, the RX got 29 mpg through the gorge and we didn't even catch fire once. This year's location was awesome, a long drive for us, but we got a cheap hotel and that made all the difference! -
I used a cheap grid repair kit, (the kind with the brush and stencil for a thin line break in the grid) and a clear rear view mirror adhesive. I 'painted' the center of the clip with the copper grid repair liquid heavily, then 'painted' the edges of the clip with the mirror adhesive. I held them tight until it set. It actually worked. The wet copper conductor bridged the gap between the clip and grid, the adhesive held the edges of the clip tight. That frost king tab binding adhesive with the conductor in it looks to be the bomb, if it ain't a silly price.

+1 (also) I have put lots of mileage on my almost totally stock RX. I added an intercooler to try and help it live a longer life and it has been my daily driver for almost 3 years. Decent mileage, amusing acceleration... it ain't a world beater, but it still makes me smile. Someday the fun might end, but not today.

I was at a junk yard and found a factory auxiliary light switch on an EA82. Apparently it (switch) fills the slot to the lower left of the steering wheel. I've never seen that before. The front clip of the car was gone, so I couldn't see what it would have went to. Does anyone have a picture of a factory optioned fog light/aux light/driving light on an EA82?

Saving 1993 Subie Legacy
Txakura replied to Acehorseman's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
It almost sounds like it is in 'limp home mode' and is limiting the shifting and top end. Is the engine computer or transmission computer throwing any codes? Google how to put the transmission in self test and it will tell you if it is ailing. -
EA82T performance & longevity mods
Txakura replied to mdcc2010's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
the only 'mod' I have done to the RX is to install an ej205 tmic, I was able to use the factory recirc valve - but only with the oem intake box and plumbing I think the cooler inlet air and the breathe easier plumbing is a very solid longevity mod -

Tons Old School Subaru Decals on Ebay
Txakura replied to Pooparu's topic in Products for your Subaru
Hey Pooparu, didn't you used to have other decals too? RX side decals and such? I am trying to find the 'subaru' that rides on the body moulding on the doors and my RS has a 'Loyale' in the same place... small letters, maybe less than an inch, long since cooked away by the sun -
mikaleda has a point. I used to do 40 miles of gravel a day, 20 am, 20 pm... what if you ran a small diameter duct from the lower front side of the air filter box to behind the grill? lots of things in the way, yes but you could metal tape over the fender inlet, (easy to go back) and draw your air from the front of the car sounds like a hole saw and a trip to Ace hardware
