I'm always amazed at how quickly things can go south, and often marvel at my reaction (or lack of) to them. Buy a lotto ticket tonight, well done and good save. A minor mark on the windshield is better than the ICU any day. So they lost their entire wheel assembly and spun out? Fresh USMB underwear for everyone, on the house.

can i do a front/rear wheel alignment?
Txakura replied to bicycle_ben's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
um... I have no credentials but his problem sounds like something in the front end is binding, (to me anyway) I hit a well placed boulder with my F250. The steering wouldn't return to center, turning to one side was better than the other. I searched and searched under the truck and never could find the impact point or anything visibly wrong. After some time it loosened up and acted normally. Then I blew the pressure seal out of my steering gear box output shaft and dumped my PS fluid out in one large -foosh-. When I went to change the seals, I found my lower shaft bearing in mini chunks o' shrapnel. The impact point was the tip of the output shaft just past the pitman arm, it munched the bearing - the binding - and chewed it to pieces - the freeing up of the steering... it wasn't until one of the bits ate the seal that I figured it out. Ended up replacing the whole steering gear box. His first post sounds like that to me, something is binding up in the steering and may have nothing to do with alignment. I yield the soap box to the next speaker. -
fuel pump control unit(relay)
Txakura replied to leuigirl's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
without knowing the car, generally it's just a matter of using a multi-tester to measure the voltages at the relay, if the relay isn't closing it won't be sending anything to the device it controls there should be 12 volts going to one of the connectors at the relay, when the key is turned to the on position, it should close the relay and complete the circuit - allowing 12 volts to 'flow' out one of the other connectors to the device it controls maybe someone else can elaborate, you might mention what model of Subaru it is and someone may have something specific for it -

Still looking, does a beer stain count? Actually if I could get one of those Jesus action figures with the pull string voice, like I saw on the Top Gear North Pole episode, I'd be pretty happy with that. -

It's ok, it's going to evolve into something better -

but in German it's an 'A$$' Maker SU-015-A Installer - so it's a German Tool for installing Russian Missiles on a Japanese Car? :-\ -

Do you want my list of cars I sold and shouldn't have? At the end of the day the profit from their sale is forgotten, the fact they aren't here isn't. Sometimes it is all we can do to suck it up and make ends meet, it ain't a happy place to be. I'm leaning towards the idea that you may not get what you would want for it because most folks aren't buying right now. Maybe someone on the board will be able to give it a good home, I wish I could it's a very nice looking RX. -
Roger that. Maybe I need to start playing the lotto more than once or twice every other year

rule of thumb for cutting springs?
Txakura replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
not following you, leave the cap out or use a different one? and how much drop are you talking about? I assume you're talking about the big rubber hockey puck that sits on top of the strut and is visible through the tower hole under the hood. -
after 20 years I couldn't get the #4 (?) rail screws to budge off the ea82 seats and it was actually easier to just use the xt track with the long bolts... whichever is easiest, I'm sure both ways work

there does seem to be a price difference between the models which leads me to think they are different

are the springs the same between my 90 RS and the 87 wagon? (both 4wd) or is one set heavier than the other? can't tell from partsamerica or 1st subaru guess I can measure the coil diameter and uncompressed height... too cold to work outside, doing the coffee drinking part of the job

wow, the Brat is really nice - but I haven't seen a Sikverhawk since 1982 when I rode passenger in one for about 200 miles. That is a unique car that seems few people know about, and it's supercharged brother - waaay ahead of their time

I have a pair of 87 Wagon seats, and a pair of 90 Loyale. The 87's need a good scrubbing, the 90's are clean but the driver butt padding has just started to crush down - still better than metal bars and garbage bags. XT seats might fit with a minimum hassle, it wasn't too hard to get them into my 90 Loyale RS, inside rear needed a bushing and a longer bolt, outside rear an 85mm long bolt and a spacer. I have seen box tubing and used a piece of aluminum tubing myself. If you go that route I can take a pic to show you.

the really weird thing is that the seats, although dirty - look easily cleanable and are in excellent condition, given the amazing amount of beer spilled on the dashboard... it doesn't make much sense -
Someone was looking for manual window regulators to get rid of their electric windows... I will be cutting up that 87 wagon (see the Tod Wagon post) and could cut out the mechanisms for you...

My turn to buy something but unlike everybody else, I didn't get a cherry machine for $0.50 presenting the Death Machine itself and what, pray tell lead me to this insanity? well... take a look again, it has a d/r 5 spd, welded 3.9 dif, a SPFI 1.8, that has better oil pressure than mine (and fewer miles), rear disc - either oem or added, and someone has already converted it to Toyota 6 bolt hubs! On top of that, those crappy looking lights on the hood are Hella's, I can steal the map light, cargo light, legible hvac buttons, a working cd player, tilt steering and who knows what else before I send it to the crusher besides, the death skulls were cool it even came with 40S&W ammo rolling around on the floor and beer cans under the seat - hell that was worth it right there
