  1. My car was having a fit, I'd let off the gas and get a nice -bap!- out the muffler. It was running like poo until I got to I-5 South, then it was tolerable at a steady rpm. On the idea I got really crappy gas in North Bend, I topped it the next day with Chevron Premium. Absolutely PURRED all the way across the state, was real happy over the pass too. Not sure what the heck that was all about, but it did seem to be last fill up related. Yeah I found my friend's place that night, eyes burning, kiddo passed out in his booster before we even got off the ferry, lol. Glad you made it safe too!
  2. Yep. Whidbey cop pulled over a guy for tailgating me, guess they aren't all bad.
  3. That was Twitch and GWAL (Girl with a Legacy), my son and I were there in the RX too. I sure appreciated you opening the hood and pointing out the OBD2 and the thermo sensor tip, and the carrier idea* you guys were cool and the dogs were awesome. I hope to see you at the next one or sooner!

  5. Thanks for showing me the OBD2 harness and the tip on the ea/ej temp probe, that's the kind of good stuff to help me along and I appreciate it. Sometimes you just have to see something to make the lightbulb go on!

  6. The problem I had with the XV is they didn't really explain anything in the lead up, I didn't know what I was looking at or why it was significant. Essentially I was standing there listening to the rep and they pulled the cover off by the time I turned around. A little more showmanship might have caused more folks to gather, and applaud more when it was opened. If I hadn't been there by chance, I'd have missed the whole thing. It was next to the BRZ and that was a real distraction from the XV also. Kind of a hard act to follow. But yeah, I felt bad too, I winced a little over the lackluster reaction.
  7. LOL, I would have come down to have a more mellow camp spot, instead of leaving a day early so I could sleep!
  8. I really liked the ea71 turbo with the wide body, that was really cool. I got some pics of the rear suspension and under the hood (turbo and a pressure carb) but I didn't get to hear it run and missed the owner! I hope someone got some good over view pics of it.
  9. I was working under the hood today on my RX and discovered that the stock ej 205 tmic recirc valve is actually drawing air into the cooler at an idle. Until I can tie it back into the post maf airstream, I had it dumping overboard. Not ideal but better than a barking turbo. Is that normal for the recirc to be partially open, drawing in, or is it a problem with the valve itself / rebuild the valve. I cant help but think if it was tied in like it should be it wouldn't really matter if it was sucking in metered air.
  10. And Monroe was wrong. I took Monroe 71223 off the RX. The Gabriel I got was based on the Monroe 30222, which has two subs listed. The one I got has the coil seat about one inch too low. I'm feeling that except for people on this BBS, no one can tell a 2wd from a 4wd and an AWD Subaru. I'll RMA my Rock Auto shocks and find the Monroe 71223 locally. Another thing that is pyssing me off is that most of the chain store websites wont allow a part number search, they'll only limit you to whatever car they force you to select.
  11. I got off my third point of contact and pulled the EJ seats out of the RX, rinsed them with a hose, scrubbed them with 'tough stuff' and a stiff brush THEN used the upholstery attachment on my steam cleaner... with the seats out I vacuumed the car and steam cleaned the carpets. Put the seats back in last night, maybe I'll ride on a towel on the way to work :-p 24 years of carpet grime anyone? I got new rear struts, a variable speed buffer and some mirror glaze to play with later. Bending over the door frame to do the rugs, my back is killing me,
  12. Does that include the 86-89 RX and the 1990 Loyale RS? i.e 4wd and awd coupes?
  13. Thank you for contacting Tenneco Automotive. The LE30222 crosses to a Monroe strut part # 71222
  14. MONROE Part # 71877 OESpectrum Strut Front Left; 4WD MONROE Part # 71876 OESpectrum Strut Front Right; 4WD (from Rock Auto), Pep Boys had them listed too with better information Don't buy anything on my word though, check it out for yourself till your satisfied. Ty shawn for the info
  15. Ty all. I also found that the KYB GR/2 is 341066 for the rear. The Gabriels have shipped. We'll see on those.
  16. I ordered the Gabriel shocks. I'll just have to open one and compare them really really carefully to the existing shocks and see how they match. If they don't I will cross match the kyb Excel G '98 4runner fronts to a kyb gr/2 equivalent Loyale2.7's article on the accord springs with the toyota 4runner front shocks blows my mind. I am always amazed the connections people make and the 'what ifs' that get explored. never mind crazy guys with mid mounted 6cyls in a coupe!
  17. there was a service bulletin for this, my '87 would make James Bond proud on a right hand turn, under compression coming in hot on my last corner to the house. my '90 never did it GD had a really good description of the fittings, diameters etc to make a 'correct' system see if search yields anything here, it's a known issue (which click and clack misdiagnosed on Car Talk)
  18. think it was pretty straight forward, but its been so long I don't remember specifics
  19. Good Lord, I have been reading strut specs for hours trying to cross reference rear struts*for the RX. I ordered two off Rock several days back, they sent me an email saying they had made a mistake and had no equivalent in stock - and (they) cancelled my order. I guess I'm just supposed to shag off and make my own out of wheat? Anyway, I can't find the dimensions for the Monroe LE30222 since it's out of production. I did find the Gabriel G53182 listed as an equivalent to the LE30222 on one website. Several hours ago I had thought the Monroe 71222 might be a match but couldn't be 100% certain. Then I read Loyale 2.7's article on the the KYB Excel G 541232 only to find the Excel G has been superseded by the GR/2 and also the only Excel G I could find were $105 each, from EUROPE, lol. I know this has come up before, what did other RX people do? By the way, a lot of websites do not mention the RX in their pulldowns, but the do have the 1990 Loyale RS, or a listing for the '4wd coupe' under Loyale... those cars use the same parts, so sometimes I got information looking that up, then tried to cross reference it to something else.
  20. I don't like you anymore Dave. You just turned both my coupes into the poo they are.
  21. Right on, good to see you back in action.
  22. I changed the seals on mine, and it was not that hard. Everythign else seemed okay, no excessive play, just a torn boot from (snow) drift bashing and some schmutz (technical term) got in there and ate up the output rod seal. It was a cheap repair and hasn't leaked yet.
