  1. There used to be a 'form a thread' that seemed to work in some cases. You painted a release agent on the good threads of the bolt, and put some putty in the retapped and cleaned hole. You wouldn't put in so much you filled the bottom of the hole with excess stuff. It dried and held well and the release agent let the bolt be removed later. +1 on the helicoil or timesert, of course, but if its salvageable, the longer bolt and some 'form a thread' might be fine too btw I had that form a thread hold a spark plug until it could be properly repaired many months later with an insert
  2. hmmmmm my street bike has a water trap on the breather line that makes milkshakes, but it's moisture being driven out of the crankcase and 'normal' (liquid cooled bike, btw) once in a while I dump it as per the manual but uh, I guess if you have disappearing water that could be a whole other deal
  3. http://mizpahprecision.com/pricing.htm the ea82 is down towards the bottom $4.50 to $6.00 each
  4. Mailed you from the web, and PM'ed here, how's the ej to ea wire bundle going? Greg, Albion

  5. Post some pics of the damaged car, I bet the people here would walk you through repairing it if you needed the advice. I know you can still get body panels from 1st Subaru over the internet, some folks here could probably be persuaded to ship. There's a yard north of me 90 miles that has fenders for $8-12. I realize you're probably talking about more than that, but it IS a shame to have to toss it over sheetmetal.
  6. I think it could be done well. The real Shaker had a fixed air box that the hood opening sealed to... that'd really lend itself to a tmic or even a true cold air airbox for the intake I accept the challenge. WCSS 15 baby.
  7. on the ea82 I can put my compressor in the battery tray, and have even pulled the engine from underneath the a/c lines etc etc without opening the system maybe what the guys are saying is you can zip tie or wire it back out of your way without cracking it open 'illegal' to top the system? I did not know that, I knew a shop couldn't do anything with R12 except evacuate the system... whoops
  8. man if that AC works I wouldn't touch it, there is no way to recharge the R12 system and you'd have to convert to the new 134a
  9. I had a wild idea today, how about a Shaker hood, like a 70-71 AAR 'Cuda?
  10. I had to narrow it to fit, I bought the car with a terrible hole already cut into the hood. (later I put a tmic under the scoop) the stainless button head screws have nothing to do with the scoop, but were a way to plug the ginormous holes left over from the PO there are some more pics here that sort of show the play by play of installing it http://s33.photobucket.com/albums/d59/Triquel/Poop%20Scoop/
  11. I 'rented' a bearing/seal driver from the auto store and did mine myself. I also used the opportunity to do the 'sealed bearing mod' that you can find with a search. GD has the number memorized, I don't. It is the first and last time that car will get new bearings, the new bearing life exceeds the rest of the car. One thing I did that was a little odd was to put the bearings in my freezer overnight. I had thought any thousandth or two I could gain by chilling them just prior to install would help with the interference fit. Liquid nitrogen would probably cause the bearing's seals to crack, but it was that same train of thought. btw, when I pulled my old bearings one of them had seriously failed and was missing several of the balls, (rh outer) they had been hammered by the surviving balls and partially melted into tin foil, the heat must have been incredible
  12. Hmmm. It sounds like a bearing but Man on the Moon has a good point. Why don't you move that wheel to another spot and see if the noise goes with it?
  13. With a degree in Nuclear Spectroscopy from the Polytechnic in Moscow, and an internship at the Maxx Planck Institute... being able to create your own fusion containment field is a plus.
  14. I own a turbo ea82 and I wouldn't even swap one into a car that didn't come with one My philosophy towards mine is that it's great right until it breaks, i.e. I will take very good care of it, but when it fatally fails, I will swap an ej22 into it. An EJ would be a great engine for your Brat.
  15. whoa, I got to hang out here more often. pretty serious stuff
  16. Dang it, I should have stayed. If I'd known you were coming all the way from SV I'd have had you bring me a Philiberto's Carne Asada burrito
  17. roger, didn't expect to hit factory spec, trying to understand why, when the car feels better than ever on the gravel county roads I need everyday, positive (static) camber (+1.4 and +1.7) are an issue he'd like to see me re-work it closer to zero
  18. I have to laugh at myself. No sooner do I send some pm about final drive ratios when I stumble on a great thread on gear ratios and transmissions, difs etc etc. Once again, I have mastered the semi auto art of toe shooting.

Good Lord. Now all I have to is... re-consider the whole package and what I want it to do. NP. LOL

  19. TY both, reading reading reading. edit *(very good read, thanks for that article) Post lift my camber is positive, not by much. No real issues yet, but this car was very prone to understeer pre lift. I like the way it feels off pavement now, but my alignment guy was concerned about it being positive. Might be time to ask what others with 4" lift in an ea82 use for alignment goals.
