More info for if you decide to drill rims. The drill bit size is 1/2" and use a 1/4" bit as a pilot hole. I have 3 sets of drilled rims and i have never had problems

What kind of alternator did you look at? I have the GM 100 amp in my wagon. If you plan on keeping the EA82 (i dont see why not. At the end of the day, they get the job done. regardless of what GD says:grin:) use the maxima 90 amp alt. The extra 10 amps isn't worth the trouble.

How sure are you that it is fuel? here are some simple tests to find out. I don't know what you've done, or how skilled you are, no offense intended:-p. Here are the tests i use when I'm diagnosing why a car will not start. i assume it turns over. Does it still have good compression? When it turns over does it turn over even? for example: DAH DAH DAH DAH. or does it go DAH DAH DU, DAH DAH DU. If it sounds like the first "example" then the compression is good. The next step is to check for spark. Pull one of the spark plug wires and ground it to the engine by holding it an inch above the motor, away from the spark plug hole. have someone turn the motor over and check for a spark to jump from the plug to the engine. If you have spark and compression, then it is an induction (air/fuel) problem. Congratulations! you are a mechanic! also check your fuses under the dash, and your fuseable links. Also check the wires where you had your fire.(you should do this first) good luck!

that side didn't have the stock bolt. It had a machine bolt and nut with washers because i had to torch the original bolt off, because i didn't have any air tools when i did axles for the first time. i had one of my friends helping me (who is a nerd turned auto mechanic ) and he was doing that side when we putting the car back together. i think he forget the lock washers. Oh well. It needed new axles anyway
-
Well the car grenaded today. the driver side control arm fell off and the tire locked up and broke an axle. and i didnt have any rear axles installed. so i got towed home. 70 bucks later it turns out i now have to replace all the axles on the dumb thing

$900 for clutch and labor?!
Markus56 replied to zman111's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's what I'm doing. right now i am interning for free, but when summer starts i am going to another shop for a paid internship. At the college run shop i work at currently, we charge $40 per hour with a mark-up on parts. I just did a timing belt, oil pump, water pump, seals, etc on a 97 outback and IIRC the total was around $900. Of course, i didn't get a dime of this, but that is college for you. -
We got into Havre today. you can go to the wal mart parking lot, then drive over a barrier, then be in wheeling territory. other than that, there is the world's smallest dairy queen. i never realized Montana was that desolate. next time i come here will be in a lifted subaru

if i remember correctly, the base of a weber is too large to fit onto an intake. and honestly, clean out your underhood area and put a hood back on your car. that stuff isn't good for it. If you spent half as much time maintaining your car as you did asking questions, you would have a better car, and understand how it works, so you would be able to figure out this kind of stuff instead of making threads on the board. get your weber on your car, so you can see what it looks like. then decide if you can weld a carburetor onto an intake.

get a metric set sockets if you are only going to get one kind. i found a 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" craftsman ratchet set at a pawnshop for 40 bucks. its good for everything. look around in your pawn shops and craigslist. you will be surprised whats out there
-
more people wanted to go to Montana than would comfortably fit in a Subaru, so we are taking a different car
-
IT'S Done!!!! now i get to go to montana for 4 days pics when i get back

keep your foot off the skinny pedal.

HA. you should see the stuff we run with. some of us dont even check our tire pressure regularly. or have a full size spare tire. or dont even have tools or spare parts so you have to trade you paintball gun for a stub shaft and use a borrowed zip tie to keep your pants from falling off.

no. its still not done. my dad's auto shade welding helmet quit working so now he's flash-burned his eyes. the welds on the shift linkages turned out really bad, and i cant shift it into 2wd because the link is welded too long oh well. :-\ on the plus side my headlights work again

should i use 1/8th" 2x2? i have a lot of it
-
it is. i modified the steering linkage from my old non power steering crossmeber to bolt onto the linkage on the new crossmember with power steering. took me about 10 minutes to cut it and install. no welding involved, all bolt together
-
according to GD, not until i replace those blocks. and in that last picture, i am sitting on the floor. i haven't put in the new RX seats yet. And it's raining so now i cant weld the tranny links today.
-
Hey GD, how much did those blocks on the EA81 bend? And how hard was it wheeled?

Crank pulley falls off
Markus56 replied to SakoTGrimes's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The same thing happened to my XT. i wrapped the crank pulley bolt in Teflon tape so the pulley would center on the bolt. then i bolted it back on and tightened the crap out of it. That was back in December and it is still holding -
so i made a lot of progress today. i got the steering linked together and the motor back in. tomorrow should be the last day of work and then it is time for me to re-do some of my crappy electrical work
-
1/8" is all i have to work with. when i get some money again, i was going to get some thicker stuff and re-do the lift at school on one of our rotary lifts.
