They did have a point though. Subaru's AWD is very picky with differing tire diameters so even at 10k they might be out of spec(they should be within 1mm tread depth but not sure, someone will know??:cornfuzz: ? Anyone??:cornfuzz: ) and thus screw up the AWD. On two wheel drive cars changing on tire isnt a problem.

I've had some tranny problems in the past. First thing, make sure the correct amount of ATF is in there. Secondly make sure it doesn't smell burnt and and looks red. I think your problems may be due to electronics. I had problems with the speed sensors which caused only first or second gear to engage. I ended up getting a used tranny from a yard and that has worked very well except now I have an error message from the TCU which I didnt have before. Have you always taken it to the same shop? Maybe a different one would be able to solve something. About the ECU, I think a normal ECU wil do, since the trannys are all almost identical except for some stronger components.

drquasievil: About customer satisfaction, in the UK at least, Subaru has been number 1 at LEAST three times and about sales, well I don't think that proves anything. If you consider Audi a luxury car, then how is it that, most (at least in europe) have steel wheels, no leather etc? Maybe people want the image but can't afford the luxury. Some subarus on the other hand come standard with Leather, alloys, Navigation system, etc (Legacy Sedan 3.0ltr), so you could call the Subaru luxury and the Audi just expensive.

The new Subarus aren't that different from the car brands mentioned. The main differences are the images produced by the marketing people. Audi used to be like VW in the 70s- 80s???? but they targeted a more upmarkt segment and they have achieved that. Lexus= expensive toyota (sold in Japan?) Infiniti= um anyone??:cornfuzz: Audi= VW, Skoda, Seat,... Same cars, with different grills and names, but underneath no very much different. :-) Subarus are in a class of their own, but so are many other car brands, and comparing them to other cars is interesting and depending on the country these cars have different "competitors". Nough said before this gets too long.

There shouldn't be a problem, especially since, if I'm not mistaken the '95 s came with 16" as an option. I didnt have any problems when I did that with my '90 Legacy (The difference is amazing, both handling and looks, I got some gold 6 spoke ) You imply that your also getting used tires with the wheels, make sure that they are all the same model, size, and all are worn equally to avoid AWD problems . Hope this helps :-)

According to the brochure, the prices are netto, so theoretically those are the prices you pay. I haven't purchased a Subaru recently so don't know about the buying process and any possible discounts to be achieved.:cornfuzz: About the spec difference, I don't know but I doubt there are any big ones. If you download the pdf at subaru.ch and compare that with the german one, you will easily be able to spot any differences.

VAT is 7.6%... which explains the price difference I guess. Just a thought, if you buy a car in Switzerland, maybe it would be good to purchase it in Samnaun. Everything there is tax and duty free (including gas! Not than Swiss gas prices are high with taxes, comapred to other European countries.) when purchased so exporting it may be easier since you wouldn't have to get taxes back since you never paid them. On the down side Samnaun is located quite deep in the mountains of eastern Switzerand. However, I still think it is a bit too expensive :madder: and at the moment I can't afford it. PS For service and spare parts, Germany is much cheaper, at least for my 90' Legacy. peace

Strales; Actually, under full accleration you DEFINATELY CAN see black soot and smell modern diesels, also when starting cold.(except maybe diesels with particulate filters) About the knocking, it depends on the engine, at cold starts and at idle it is most obvious but aûnder load no problemo :-) . Strong and smooth acceleration is accurate of modern diesels though. PS One problem of diesel engines in cars in the US is the high sulphur content. Diesel particulate filter equipped cars need sulphur free diesel or ultra low sulphur (<50 ppm if Im not mistaken) which currently isn't available in the US but universal in the UK.
