  1. The roof racks have four keylocks on my 2000 Legacy Outback Wagon and the former owner can't find the keys. Can I still get keys from Subaru? What are my options otherwise? Thanks
  2. You are right about the potential for the control panel to fall completely into the armrest, which is what mine did. I can still work everything, just have to reach my finger in -- they don't fall down very far. I have also put off fixing it because I'm not fond of working inside doors but the replies here have motivated me to add that to my 90 Legacy Wagon todo list.
  3. I just bought a 2000 Outback Wagon that has new tires installed. The max pressure on the sidewall is 44psi, the tires are inflated at 38psi and the ride is a bit bumpy and makes hard sounds. According to my reading that is something I can live with for better fuel economy, at least during summer, and I may even try the max pressure as recommended sometimes -- there are several theories about what is best. I am wondering what other 2000 era Outback owners have tried. Has anyone compared the manufacturer's recommended pressures with other trials? Has there been any significant increase in mostly sounds as the pressure increases (I expect to feel the bumps a bit more, but wonder if my sounds are normal or indicate suspension wear.) Please tell me about your experiences with this and include any suggestions you have concluded that work. In summer I drive mostly highway and small town roads, and live where there are severe winters on those same roads. Thanks.
  4. I recently bought a new transaxle assembly and had it installed by a reputable local service. The axle cost about $130 from NAPA and the book labor guide called for 1 1/2 hours labor = $90. So your $112 job probably was done with used parts. Even if they had just used new bearings it would have cost around $40-60 just for those parts. After I had mine done I found out the other one was going bad too, which was hard to notice during the failure of the first. Check them both, then either buy new assemblies and install them yourself, or get it done right or there will be endless problems.
  5. Thanks. I don't have keyless. Fuse #3 is good, I even swapped it out. I will look behind the glovebox next.
  6. My power door lock switches do nothing. The fuse is good. Before I attempt to explore and tear things up, are there any tips I might consider? Is there a relay for this, and where is it? All the locks work fine manually. There are power switches on driver's and passenger's armrests, none in back. Thanks
  7. Thanks. The car is still at the dealer's getting door locks fixed so I can't drive it to figure it out. Logically I am with Nipper's reply, plus I called Subaru and was told (as I suspected, being as I live by the Canadian border) that the VIN indicates Canadian specs. It was too late in the day to confirm that with Subaru CA, which I will do tomorrow. The dealer has it listed in miles and has based his price on that because he overlooked the speedometer configuration. If it checks out I am getting an awesome deal.
  8. I am buying a 2000 Outback wagon that was built at the Indiana factory. The primary scale on the speedometer is in Kilometers per hour, and the secondary scale is in miles per hour. Do I read the odometer as kilometers or miles? thanks
