i get 22-25 mpg around towm with my 97 2.5 legacy gt, i used to get around 20 or so and my cars runs perfect. when i started installin aftermarket exh. components (borla header, magna flow muffler) my mpg's started going up. how clean is your upper intake area, i would recommend a de-carb, and maybe a fuel injection flush with that mileage. do you maintain your vehicle on a routine basis???

check out boxer4racing.com I have a 97 2.5 legacy gt and a few months ago bought a borla exh. header which increased my low-mid range powr, i have installed a magna flow muffler, and plan on replacing the center pipe and cat this month. the header was one of the best purchaces i have made. the sound and performance of the exhaust is more than i expected and it is not fully complete yet. i have a cold air intake on order, but in the mean time i removed my air box from inside the fender, installed a k&n airfilter, and modified sopme of the remaining air box. there are plenty of performance parts and tuning for these vehicles.

go to a reputable repair facility and have a transmission flush done, using a trans. flush machine. i have fixed many a customers hard shifting trans by completely flushing the trans. and torque convertor of old fluid. in fact my 97 legacy gt had a hard 2-3 shift and i flushed the trans last week and the problem is no longer there. it is actually a good service that works well.

i have a 97 2.5 gt dohc in basically perfect condition and totally up to date on maintance ( i am a tech for a living). even though i try not to, i ahve ran regular grade fuel without a problem. i have a few performance upgrades so i always try to run premium fuel or mid grade if i have to. all you can do is try regular gas, if it pings try a better grade fuel. the owners manual should clarify what grade gas is recommend.

it is my experience with japanese cars that they dont run as well with champion plugs, think about, the company that makes a brand of vehicle goes through years of testing to find the right plug that works with the engine well. modern day vehicles are not like old american cars that can run on different heat ranges and so forth. platnium plugs give a broarder spark in the cylinder, and a hotter spark which todays vehicles need.

your caliper slide bolts are sticking. on one of the bolts there is a round piece of rubber, is that still there. you can but a seal kit from the dealer that has that piece of rubber on it, its on the parts diagram at the dealer, it goes directly on the caliper slide bolt. i know when i did my brakes last this piece of rubber was cracked and dry rotted. look at your claliper slide bolts after you wipe them down, are they rusty? if so, remove the rust and apply grease. if there was rust on the bolts then there is rust where they mount to the caliper , and that must be cleaned also. now look at wear the ears of the brake pads contact the caliper slide, take a wire brush and clean the metal that the pads slide, and lubricate with grease, install new pads, lubricate the ears, install back on the car, anp pump the pedal. let me know what you find.

i agree with seven sisters, check engine light is there to let you know that there is a problem with the vehicle emission system, and has helped vehicles keep running in prime condition. -
i just removed my air box from the fender, you can draw plenty of air from inside the fender at any speed, its not like the fender is sealed. there are plenty of places to draw air from inside the fender. i removed the air box after i installed a borla header, and magna flow muffler (center pipe is going in soon). i have noticed a nice increase in low and mid range power and irt sounds awesome.

i saw a show on t.v. once that explained real gt cars have certian attributes to body styling, and sc models have there own peticular styling, and so fourth, each kind of badging is suppose to have its own "look", i cant remember the name of the show right now, i will try to find out. i have a legacy gt and i believed flared fender and semi agressive body lines are part of what makes a gt a gt.

thats cool. glad your car is running better. still change that fuel filter your car will thank you for it. luckily i am a tech. and can stay on top of my maintance. staying up on your maintance is ne of the best ways to keep your car runing well. i clean my throttle body about twice a year. have you ever done a fuel injector service??? or even added some cleaner to the fuel tank??

i had oil leaking from the bottom of my timing cover, it was the crank seal, it was easy to replace, i did not replaced the cam seals they were all dry. replaced water pump, and timing belt also. i have a 1997 legacy gt 2.5dohc. The job took about 1 1/2 hours, i did it with air tools and a lift though.

i use a one-man vacume type brake bleeder on my own car and customers cars with or without a.b.s. all the time. it would be a good thing to spray all the bleed screws with some rust penetrant before hand to ease the loosening of the bleed screws. the last thing you want to dois break a bleeder off on a caliper.
