  1. Good call, I noticed they bottomed out, but they didn't move or make any noise. Any ea81 or a specific year/model?

  3. Currently I am running outback 15x6 alloys with 195/60-15 Hankook i-Pike studded snow tires at stock height with no issues. I think I might go with a 5mm spacer on the rears to push them out a little to match the front. except the studs are going to take some getting used to:grin: Pictures to come...
  4. Yes they are AWD rotors and brackets. I am using the stock Loyale tie rod ends.

Here is my setup Front: Legacy struts (w/loyale top hats) 94 Impreza Knuckles, Hubs, rotors and caliper brackets. loyale calipers, Parking brake works!(caliper pins and bolts from loyale in place of imp parts) 93 fwd impreza 5mt axles xt6 control arms and ball joints. Rear: XT6 Backing plates two right side(custom left side installation) XT6 hub and rotor XT6 caliper bracket and caliper. This is the route I took to get what I wanted. there are many ways to get there, this is the one I took. Ben
  6. Bump for a clean install. where did you get that fuse holder? I am doing the Nissan Maxima Alternator on my Loyale and I have been looking for one similar to that one. thanks Ben
  7. I was referring to the blanchard grind, it is easy to make an uneven surface with that type of surfacer. I am not saying your method is wrong either. I am merely trying to get a recommendation from fellow Subaru enthusiasts on a machine shop in the local area because the ones I used in the past have gone out of business. Ben

I called a few machine shops around the area, the couple I was thinking of using actually use a high speed or CBN type resurfacing machine. which will give an OEM/factory type finish. no rounded edges, no inaccuracies from incorrect pressure on one side of cylinder head. I was thinking of using your glass method but time is my main enemy.
  9. I am used to putting freshly machined cylinder heads on without the extra grind marks. I guess I just am a little uneasy about having to take it apart after I reseal it. I really do not like to do things twice if I can avoid it. I am using Fel-Pro Perma torque gaskets, maybe I'll give them a shot.
  10. I did exactly what you suggested, and it worked perfect! I uninstalled the backing plates, installed the plates outside face to outside face, then installed bolts through the caliper bolt holes and with the backing plate temporary installed on the axle shaft, then back drilled the mounting holes in the backing plate. then took my new six hole backing plate and installed it on the left side, just like it should be:grin: thanks to Spencer(obk25xt) for the idea:headbang: Ben
  11. this is all starting because I was planning on that, but whoever replaced the head gaskets on this engine used a die grinder and an abrasive disc to remove the old head gasket material from the heads and the block:mad: so it's not too flat anymore...

I am looking at completely going through my EA82 motor and I am looking for recommendations for a good machine shop in the seattle area, preferably in the Everett area or eastside, I am willing to take my parts a little further if they are good. I used to work in an Automotive machine shop in Edmonds back when I was in High school, I would love to take it there but they closed up shop about 5 or so years ago. any experiences good or bad are appreciated.   13. First off welcome to the forums. You might want to try another thread in the "New Gen" forum you might get a better response. I had a similar problem on my loyale wagon which has a similar style floating caliper. It ended up being a stuck caliper piston and always had pressure on the pads which caused excessive wear and heat. You could also have stuck caliper pins, it is possible that they need to be cleaned up and re-greased. The caliper is where I would focus my attention first. Ben
  14. Merry Christmas everyone! It's my daughter's first Christmas, so much fun except I should have just gotten her a cardboard box and some wrapping paper... I have this next week off and I am using it to finish up (hopefully) my five lug swap, AT to 5MT D/R swap and resealed engine with Maxima alternator... Happy New Year to all of you!!
  15. the wheel bearings are different. 4 lug= 2 wheel bearings per side. 5 lug= 1 per side. not sure on the inside diameter. the hubs use a different spline count and design. the knuckles for an EJ or XT6 use the same ball joint (slightly larger than an EA82, you can re taper the ea82 control arm ball joint hole to accept an ej style ball joint), and strut mount style.   16. if you are dealing with rust I would definitely sand blast to knock all the rust off. I have done both paint and powdercoat recently, and if you are planning on putting on more than one set of tires on these rims I would powdercoat. Ben
  17. Not to make you East Coast and Mid West guys jealous but I also got my EA82 for $200. Nice find, I had to convert mine to a D/R from 3at guess its not a 200 dollar car now... oh well.

  19. replacing the thrust bearing would most certainly entail splitting the block. what type of aircraft are you using this in? Experimental? was there and STC that governed installation and use? is the company that provided the planetary gear drive making any suggestions for fixing the problem?
  20. They are the usdm version of the Ford Sierra xr4i. those 2.3l are practically bulletproof. and are capable of good hp numbers. a friend used to have a 86 Mustang SVO (same motor setup) with a little more he made between 250-300hp and drove it everyday.
  21. I don't know if you have any "u pull it" type junk yards around you, but I would start there. then try the dealer.
  22. Awesome! No complaints from that lady. I think I will try and get my vanity plate when my tags are due in a couple months... I think I figured out how to get them to give me the plate I want. we'll see if they go for it.
